REGULATIONS AFFECTING OFFICERS ON THE SUPPLE-
MENTARY LIST ENTERED UNDER ORDERS IN COUNCIL
OF 29th JUNE, 1895, and 9th AUGUST, 1898.
1. The Admiralty reserve to themselve= the power i
of proTnotlng anv Lieutenant-Commander or Lieu- |
tenant entered under this scheme to the Aetlve List
of Commanders for distinguished service during |
war operations.
2 At the discretion of the Admiralty a Lieutenant j
on retirement maybe granted such Honorary rank |
as may be considered desirable. j
3 Pensions for Hurts and Wounds, Widows' Pen-
sions Compassionate Allowances to Children, to be
at tiie same rate, and under the same conditions.
as those granted to Officers of the Royal Navy of
corresponding rank.
4. Widows of Officers on the Supplementarj' List
not killed in action, and who have not lost their lives
in the execution of the service, who at the time of
death had not Ave years' seniority as Commissioned
Officers on the Active List, are eligible for the award
of Gratuities, such Gratuities to be in every case less
than the Gratuitv that conld have been payable to
the Officer himself if he had been compelled by illness
to retire from His Malesty's Navy instead of dying
in it. (Order in Council, 7th March, 1899.)
ENTRY OP OFFICERS OP THE ROYAL NAVAL RESERVE ON
THE SUPPLEMENTARY LIST OP LIEUTENANTS AND SUB-
LIEUTENANTS, R.N., UNDER ORDER IN COUNCIL OF
7th MARCH, 1918.
.\ limited number of Officers of the Koyal Naval
Reserve between the ages of 22 and 32 will be entered
on a Supplementary List of the Navy.
Candidates will be s-elected from Officers of the
Roydl Naval Resorve who have completed 12 months'
training in the Eoyal Navy, or who are now under-
going training.
Application for entry from Officers now undergoing
12 months' training, who may be elinible under the
above regulations, will not be considered until the
applicants have performed three months of the
period of training. Selected candidates will be re-
quired to undergo a medical examination.
Sub-Lieutenants will be eligible for promotion to
Lieutenant, after one year's service fiom the date of
entry In the Roval Vavyoron the date on Which they
would have become eligible for the rank of Lieu-
tcua>t in the Royal Naval Reserve, but power la re-
served to the Admiralty to appoint them as Acting
Lieutenants at any period of their service.
In the case of Officers »ho may not have fulfilled
the service required by the Regulations of the Boaid
of Trade for examination for Master, promotion will
be subject to their p-issing an examination to be
held by the Board of Trade.
Lieut enan'-Commanders and, Lieutenants on the
Supplementary List will be eligible tor promotion to
the rank of Commander in cases of very exceptional
sei-vice.
The rates of full pay will be the same as lor
Lieutenant - Commanders, Lieutenants and Sub-
Lieutenants, R.N., and Sub-Lieutenants on the
Supplementary List will receive a messing allow-
ance of Is. a day in addition. It Is contemplated
that continuous employment on full pay will be
found for all Officers entered on the Supplementary
Tiist, exceot when they may be on h»lf pay either
through misconduct or at own request, or when
full pay shall have ceased in consequence of sick-
ness. Half and Retired Pay, and gratuities, will
be at the rates laid down for Officers entered on the
Supplementarv List under earlier Orders in Council.
The rates of full, hall, and retired pay, mentioned
above, are shown in other parts of the Navy List.
; At the discretion of the Admiralty a Lieutenant-
Commander or Lieutenant on retirement mav be
granted the retired rank of Commander under the
conditions applicable to Lieutenant-Co mmanders
j and Lieutenants generally.

Officers on entry will cease to be entitled to retain-
ing fees.
The full equipment grant of 30!. will be given to
Sub-Lieutenant8and 40i to Lieutenants, in considera-
tion of their having to obtain naval uniform, provid-
ed that they have not received any outfit, allowance
on appointment to one of His Majesty's Ships for
traini"g within the two years immediately preceding
the date of entry on the Supplementary List.
An Officer who has received outfit allowance with-
in such two years will receive only half the equip-
ment grant, or the difference between what hi has
I already received and the full rate.
Officers on the Supplementary List who perform
meritorious service during ' ar or who specially dis-
tinguish themselves in action will be eligible for
1 transfer, at the discretion of the A trairalty, to the
general ist of officers of the Royal Nai'y in vacancies,
i and if so transferred will he allowed to count the
service which they were entitled to count when on
the Supplementary List.
