it At the discretion of the Admiralty the maximum Retired Pay of £950 may be granted to a
Director-General after 3 years' service in that appointment, provided that the conduct
of his duties has been satisfactory and that he has completed 30 years' service counting
towards Retired Pay (Order-in-Council 3 Oct. 1911).
1. An Officer retired with less than 20 years' service on account of disability contracted in
and attributable to the Service, to receive the Half-pay of his rank, or, with consent of the
Admiralty, a gratuity on the foregoing scale, or under Clause 2 (b).
2. An Officer retired with less than 20 years' service, on account of disability contracted in
but not attributable to the Service, to receive : —
(a) If he has over 8 years' Full-pay Service, either a gratuity on the foregoing scale or
Half-pay, according as the Admiralty think fit.
(6; If he has less than 8 years' ;Full-pay Service, such gratuity as the Admiralty may
think fit, not to exceed the rate of 12b£. for each year of Full-pay Service.
3. An Officer who is retired on attaining 8 years' seniority as Burgeon for failure to pa9s the
examination for promotion to the rank of Staff Surgeon will receive such gratuity as the
Admiralty may see tit to grant, but the amount will not exceed £500.
