1 Sir Howard Douglas served in Portugal and Spain in 1808 and 9, and was present at the battle of
Corunna. Served afterwards at Walcheren, including the siege and bombardment of Flushing. Returned
to the Peninsula in 1811, and continued there during that year and to the end of the campaign of 1812,
having in that, time been employed on a special mission extending throughout the north of Spain, and was
present at the operations on the Orbigo and Essler. and in the combined naval and military operations on
ihe north coast of Spain in the early part of 1812, the attack and reduction of Leqnetio, and afterwards at
the siege of Astorga; the operations on the Donro, including the blockade of Zamona, the attack and
reduction of the enemy’s Ports on the Douro, and the siege of Burgos. Sir Howard has received the War
Medal and one clasp for Corunna.
2 Colonel Drought commanded the entire of the troops during the suppression of the Rebellion in the Kandian Pro¬
vinces in Ceylon in 1848.
3 Major Grierson, Capt. Wilkinson, and Lieut. East, served with a detachment consisting of 200 of the 15th
Regt. and Ceylon Rifles, under Capt. Lillie, in defeating the insurgents at Matole on the 29th July 1848,
during the Rebellion in the Kandian Provinces in Ceylon.
