War Services of the Captains,
154 Captain Mac Gregor served in the East Indies, with the Royals, and was severely wounded at
the battle of Maheidpore, 22nd Dec. 1817, and again at the assault on Fort Talneir, 27th Feb. 1818.
155 Captain James Maclean embaiked in Nov. 1813, for the western coast of Africa, where he
served on several expeditions, and was present in almost every affair and skirmish that took place on
the various parts of the coast at which he was stationed with the Royal African Corps and 2nd West
India Regiment, from Jan. 1814 to May 1822, including the attack and capture of the town of Barra,
River Gambia, in July, 1817.
156 Captain Macneil served with the 75th in the East Indies, at the relief of the post and fort of
Montana in Oct. and Nov. 1800 ; at the storm and capture of the fort of Pyche, 21 Oct. 1801 ; in the
action at Kurree, 17 March 1802 ; storm of the enemy’s outworks and camp, 30th April ; siege of the
fort of Baroda in Guzerat, in Dec. 1802 and Jan. 1803; and action of the 6th Feb. 1803, on the banks
of the Mahi.
157 Captain Lachlan Macphersnn served in the Peninsula with the 74th from Jan. 1810 to the end
of that war in 1814, including the battles of Busaco and Fuentes d’Onor, first siege of Badajoz, sieges
and captures of Ciudad Rodrigo and Badajoz, battles of Vittoria, Pyrenees, Nivelle, Orthes, and
Toulouse. Severely wounded in the head at Vittoria, and in the left knee at Toulouse.
158 Captain Charles Manners served in the Peninsula from Feb. 1810 to Dec. 1813, and was
present at the battle of Barossa (wounded), and the sieges of Tarifa and Cadiz.
159 Captain Martin served on the expedition against the Danish and Swedish West India Islands,
in 1801 ; likewise on the expedition against the French Islands in 1803.
160 Captain Massey served on the Continent in 1793, 94, and 95 ; also at the Helder in 1799.
161 Captain Master went with the expedition to the Hague in the 2nd battalion of the Grenadier
Guards, and served the campaign of 1813 and 14 in Holland, including the taking of Merxem, bom-
bardment of Antwerp, and storming of Bergen-op-Zoom. Served also the campaign of 1815, and
carried the King's Colour of the 3rd battalion Grenadier Guards at the battles of Quatre Bras and
Waterloo. He was also present with the storming party at Peronne, and at the subsequent capture of
162 Captain Maunsell served the campaign of 1815, and was present at the battle of Waterloo.
163 Captain Meek served with the 2nd battalion of the 14th on the expedition under Lord Wm.
Bentinck, in the Genoese territory, in 1814; and with that under Sir Hudson Lowe in the South of
France, in 1815.
164 Captain Melhuish served in the Peninsula from May 1811 to the end of that war in 1814,
including the siege and storming of Badajoz, and repulse of the sortie in 1812 ; passage of the Adour,
investment of Bayonne, and repulse of the sortie. Led the attack at Badajoz by escalade at the bastion
of St. Vincent. Twice slightly wounded at the siege of Badajoz; also slightly wounded at the invest¬
ment of Bayonne, and again at the sortie.
165 Captain Miller served with the 46th at the defence of Dominica from an attack of the French,
in 1805; the capture of Martinique,’in 1809; and of Guadeloupe, in 1810; and was present at the
latter in the attack on the enemy’s post, Belle Air, heights of St. Louis.
166 Captain A. O. Molesworth served the campaign of 1815, and was engaged at Cambray, 23rd
and 24th June, and was present at the capture of Paris.
167 Captain Molloy served in the Peninsula with the Rifle Brigade. Also the campaign of 1815,
and was severely wounded at Waterloo.
168 Captain Montagu served at the siege of Dantzick, in 1813. Also the campaign of 1815, and
was present at the battle of Waterloo.
169 Captain A. R. Montgomery served at the siege of Copenhagen, in 1807 ; and subsequently in
the Peninsula, including the storming of Badajoz, affairs previous to and battle of Salamanca, and
retreat to Madrid.
170 Captain Richard Montgomery served in the Peninsula with the 36th from March 1812 to the
end of that war in 1814, including the battles of Salamanca (slightly wounded), Pyrenees, Nivelle,
and Nive.
171 Captain Moore (18th F.) served in the Peninsula with the 27th from 1808 to 1813, and was
present at the siege of Ciudad Rodrigo, and both sieges of Badajoz. Severely wounded at the storming
of Badajoz on the night of the 6th of April, 1812.
172 Captain Hugh Morgan served on the expedition to Walcheren in 1809, and was present at
the bombardment of Flushing ; served afterwards in the Peninsula from 1812 to the end of the war
in 1814, including the siege of Cadiz, battles of the Pyrenees, siege of San Sebastian (severely
wounded), and battle of Toulouse.
173 Captain Morle served in the Queen’s in Sir John Moore’s retreat; at the siege of Flushing ;
and subsequently in the Peninsula, including the battles of Vittoria, Pampeluna, Nivelle, Nive, and
Toulouse, besides several affairs of outposts.
174 Captain Ness served with the 71st at the capture of the Cape of Good Hope in 1806; and
subsequently at the reduction and defence of Buenos Ayres under General Beresford. Also the cam¬
paign of 1808-9, including the battles of Roleia, Vimiera, and Corunna. On the expedition to
Walcheren and at the siege of Flushing, in 1809. Peninsular campaigns of 1811, 12, and 13, during
which service he was twice severely wounded.
175 Captain Newhouse served in the Light Division of the Deccan Army in the Mahratta war of
1817 and 18, as extra Aide-de-Camp to Sir Lionel Smith, and commanding a Rassela of the Poona
Auxiliary Cavalry, and was wounded at the action of the 31st Jan. 1818. With the 65th on the two
expeditions to the Persian Gulf in 1819 and in 1821.
