paign of 1817 and 18 ; and in the Burmese war, in 1825 and 26.
108 Major John Clarke served in the Peninsula from March 1809 to the end of that war in
1814, including the battles of Oporto and Talavera, Lines of Torres Vedras, actions of Arroyo de
Molino and Campo Mayor, battle of Albuhen, siege of Badajoz, battles of Vittoria, the Pyrenees
(from 25th to 31st July]! and 2nd Aug.) the Nivelle, the Nive (9lh and 13th Dec.), action of St.
Palais, battle of Orthes, action at Aire, and battle of Toulouse, besides numerous skirmishes. At
the battle of Albuhera, when in the command of a company of flankers, was struck down by a
Polish lancer, and taken prisoner, but made his escape in a charge of cavalry.
109 Major Sheppard served at Walcheren, in 1809 ; and in Canada from March 1814 to Dec.
1816, including the actions at Chippawa, Lundy’s Lane, before Fort Erie, and the attack on Snake
110 Major Richardson served in the Peninsula with the 11th from Aug. 1809, to Oct. 1814,
including the battle of Busaco, the subsequent retreat of the army to the lines before Lisbon, the
advance and pursuit of the enemy when they broke up from Santarem, blockade of Almeida, and
battle of Fuentes d’Onor.
111 Major Cannon served in the Peninsula with the old 94th from January 1810 to the end of
the war, including the defence of Fort Matagorda in front of Cadiz in 1810, lines of Torres Vedras,
battle of Fuentes d’Onor, first siege of Badajoz, actional El Bodon, storm of Ciudad Rodrigo
(severely wounded in the chest); battles of Salamanca, Vittoria (slightly wounded in the right
knee), Pyrenees, Nivelle, Orthes, and Toulouse.
112 Major Tatton served in the Peninsula from Aug. 1811 to the end of that war in 1814, and
was present at the blockade of Bayonne.
113 Major Jackson serv-d in the Peninsula from Dec. 1809 to 1814, and was severely wounded
through the left breast and in both arms at the battle of Albuhera. Served subsequently in the
American war.
114 Major Graham served at the siege of Flushing in 1809, and afterwards in the Peninsula,
including the blockade of Bayonne. Subsequently in the American war, including the action at
Bladensburg and capture of Washington, action near Baltimore, and those in front of New Orleans
on the 20th Dec. 1814, and 8th Jan. 1815 : also at the taking of Fort Bowyer.
115 Major Nickoll served with the 90th at the taking of the Danish Islands of St. Croix and
St. Thomas, in 1807. Sent upon particular service in command of the Light Company in 1813
to drive away an American privateer of large force from off the Island of Barbadoes ; brought her
to action, and after a sharp fight drove her away. Served during the war in Canada, in 1814.
116 Major Robertson served with the expedition to Walcheren in 1809, and was present at the
siege of Flushing. Also at the taking of the Kandyan country, in Ceylon, under Sir Robert
Brownrigg.
117 Major Rivers landed at Passages in Dec. 1813, and joined the light division in Feb. 1814 ;
took charge of a division of the boats fitted out at Socoa for the passage of the Adour; then joined
the force for the siege of Bayonne. Embarked for America in 1814.
118 Major Waymouth served in the Peninsula with the 2nd Life Guards from Nov. 1812 to the
end of that war in 1814, including the battle of Vittoria, investment of Pampeluna, and the battles
of the Pyrenees. Also the campaign of 1815, including the action at Quatre Bras, covering the
retreat on the 17th June, and battle of Waterloo. Seve ely wounded and taken prisoner, when
charging the French cuirassiers at Waterloo.
119 Major Buchan served the campaign of 1814 in Holland, including the reconnoitring of the
position before Antwerp, action at Merxem, and bombardment of Antwerp.
120 Major Rutherford served in the Peninsula, and was present at the defence of Cadiz, action
of Sabugal, battle of Fuentes d’Onor, fiist siege of Badajoz, and battles of the Nivelle, Orthes, and
Toulouse. Served afterwards in the American war.
121 Major Lowe served with the 16th Lancers at the siege of Bhurtpore in 1825-6, and was
wounded.
122 Major Gibson served in the Peninsula with the 1st Light Infantry battalion of the King’s
German Legion, from Aug. 1813, to the end of that war in 1814, including the siege of San
Sebastian, an action in the Pyrenees at the passage of the Bidassoa (wounded), and the subsequent
actions in which the left wing of the army was engaged. Served also the campaign of 1315, and
was present at the battle of Waterloo.
123 Major Macready served the campaigns of 1814 in Holland with the 30th, and was engaged
at Fort Frederick Hendrick on the 21st March. Also the campaign of 1815, including the action
at Quatre Bras, the retreaton the following day, and battle of Waterloo. Served afterwards in the
East Indies, and was present at the siege of Asseerghur in March and April 1819.
124 Major Morse Cooper served the campaign of 1814 as a Volunteer with the Royals, and
was present at the investment of Bayonne, and repulse of the sortie. Also the campaign of 1815,
including the battles of Quatre Bras and Waterloo. Served with the 11th Light Dragoons at
the siege and capture of Bhurtpore in 1825-6. Slightly wounded at Bayonne, and severely at
Waterloo, having received five wounds.
125 Major Alves served the whole of the campaigns of 1810, 11, 12, 13, and 14. with the
74th in the 3d division, without having ever been absent from it for a single day, including
