Gaudens, and battle of Toulouse.
117 Lord Hotham served in the Peninsula with the Coldstream Guards from April 1812 to Feb.
1814, with the exception of a short absence in consequence of a wound received at the battle of Sala¬
manca. Served also the campaign of 1815, and was present at the battle of Waterloo.
118 Colonel Ellis served the campaigns of 1812, 13, 14, and 15, with the Grenadier Guards, and
was present at the defence of Cadiz, action of San Munos, passage of the Bidassoa, battles of the
FJivelle, Nive, before Bayonne, Quatre Bras, and Waterloo. Severely contused at Quatre Bras, and
severely wounded at Waterloo.
119 Colonel Higgins served in Ireland during the Rebellion in 1798. In 1806 he was at the
landing and taking of Maldonado, in South America ; at the affair at San Carlos, in which he was
slightly wounded and had bis horse shot; also at the siege and taking of Monte Video.
120 Sir Wm. Robert Clayton accompanied his regiment, the Royal Horse Guards, to the Peninsula,
in Oct. 1812, and commanded a squadron at the battles of Vittoria, the Pyrenees, and at the period
when Marshal Soult attempted to relieve Pampeluna. In 1815 again accompanied his regiment to
the Netherlands, and was at the battles of Quatre Bras, Genappe, and Waterloo.
121 Colonel Macadam landed in Portugal 1st Aug. 1808, with the 9th, and served throughout the
whole of the Peninsular war, including the battles of Roleia and Vimiera, passage of the Douro,
defence of Tarifa, affairs on the retreat from Burgos in 1812, siege and storming of San Sebastian
(twice wounded, and commanded the false attack on the breach on the night of the 29th of August),
passages of the Bidassoa (shot through the body) and Adour, several affairs connected with the invest¬
ment of Bayonne, and also the repulse of the sortie, besides a variety of minor affairs, and other
desultory services during the Peninsular war. Proceeded to Canada with his regiment, and served
the campaign of 1814.
122 Colonel Spink served with the Light Company of the 12th in several actions in the Travancore
war, East Indies. Severely wounded through the leg when leading a night attack against the enemy’s
position at St. Mary in the island of Bourbon. Present also at the capture of the Isle of France, his
company forming the advance on landing, and repeatedly engaged previous to its capture.
122* Colonel Mansel served with the 10th in the Mediterranean; subsequently with the 53rd in the
Peninsula, and was severely wounded at the battle of Toulouse.
123 Colonel Hay accompanied Sir Thomas Brisbane to the Peninsula as his Aide-de-Camp in 1812,
•and was present in all the general actions and affairs until the close of that war in 1814. Severely
wounded and had a horse shot under him at the battle of Vittoria. Accompanied Sir Thomas with a
division of that army to America.
124 Colonel Dobbin served with the 19th in the Travancore war, in 1809; at the capture of the
Kandian territories in Ceylon, in 1815. Also actively employed at the head of the Grenadier company
throughout the Kandian campaign of 1818, and received the thanks of Sir Robert Brownrigge on three
occasions in general orders, for a series of services against the insurgents.
125 Colonel Drummond served in the Peninsula with the Coldstream Guards from Jan. 1813 to the
end of that war in 1814.
126 Colonel Melville Browne served as aide-de-camp to Sir Brent Spencer in the battles of Roleia,
Vimiera, Busaco, Fuentes d’Onor, and the different affairs during the retreat of Massena from Portu¬
gal. Served also at the siege of Flushing in 1809, as aide-de-camp to General Gore Browne.
127 Colonel Fleming served in India, Bourbon, and at the capture of the Isle of France.
128 Colonel Buckley served in the Peninsula with the Grenadier Guards, from March 1813, to the
end of that war in 1814, including the passage of the Bidassoa, battle of the Nivelle, and investment
of Bayonne. Served also the campaign of 1815, and was present at the battles of Quatre Bras and
Waterloo, and taking of Peronne.
129 Colonel Byam served the campaigns of 1812, 13,14, and 15, including the battles of Salamanca,
Vittoria, Orthes, and Waterloo, besides minor affairs. Severely wounded by a grape shot while carry¬
ing the regimental colour of the 38th at Salamanca, and slightly wounded at Waterloo.
130 Colonel Prendergast served in the Peninsula with the Scots Fusilier Guards, from Dec. 1811,
to March 1814, and was present at the battle of Salamanca, capture of Madrid, siege of Burgos and
retreat from thence, affair at Osma, battle of Vittoria, sieges of Badajoz and San Sebastian, attack at
St. Jean de Luz, battle of the Nive, passage of the Adour,.in vestment of Bayonne, siege of the Citadel,
and repulse of the sortie.
131 Colonel Drake served with the army on the Elbe, under Lord Cathcart, in 1805 and 6; in
Portugal and Spain, under Sir John Moore, 1808-9; with the expedition to Walcheren, in 1809 ; in
the Peninsula in 1810 and 11, as aide-de-camp to Sir Brent Spencer; and in 1812 and 13 on the
staff of the Quarter-Master-General in the Peninsula.
132 Colonel Slisted served in the Peninsula with the 1st Royal Dragoons, from June 1811 to the
end of that war in 1814.
133 Colonel Salwey served the campaigns of 1813 and 14, with the Coldstream Guar3s, and was
present at nearly all the actions in the Pyrenees, the crossing of the Bidassoa, capture of St. Jean de
Luz, battle of the Nivelle, Heights of Bidart, crossing th; Adour, investment of Bayonne and repulse
of the sortie.
134 Colonel Gurwood served in the Peninsula with the 52d, from Aug. 1808 to Jan. 1812, and
subsequently to the end of that war in 1814 as Major of Brigade to the Household Cavalry, and to
Major-General Lambert’s Brigade in the 6th division of Infantry, including the siege and storm of
