1 Sir Thomas Hawker was present in the actions in North Holland, the Helder expedition, on the 10th,
19th September, 2nd and 6th October, 1799; and was present in command of the 20th Light Dragoons in
every action in which the British troops were engaged on the eastern coast of Spain, in 1812 and 1818 ; he
has subsequently served on the Staff, in India, as Major-General.
2 Colonel Jackson served in the Peninsula, from April, 1809, to the end of the war, including the battles
of Oporto, Talavera, Busaco, Redinha, Fuentes d’Onor; first siege of Badajoz, from 29th May, to 16th June,
1811; action at Elbodon ; siege and capture of Ciudad Rodrigo ; second siege and capture of Badajoz, 6th
April, 1812; battles of Salamanca, Vittoria, Maya Pass, Pampeluna, 15th July, Pyrenees, 80th July, Nivelle,
Nive, and Bayonne. Present at Waterlooo, and With the army of occupation in France. Served in India
and Arabia from 1819 to 1826, including the capture of Beni-Boo-Ali, as Military Secretary to Sir Lionel
Smith, and, for which service, he was recommended by the Marquis of Hastings for the rank of Lieut.-Col.
