War Services of the. Majors.
1 Major Wolfe served the Egyptian campaign of 1801, and has received the medah
2 Major Langlands served in the Peninsula with the 74tb, and has received a medal and a
clasp for the assaults and captures of Ciudad Rodrigo and Badsjoz, slightly wounded at the
former, and severely at the latter.
3 Major de Brem served the campaigns in Germany from 1792 to 1800; in Egypt, in 1801; in
Naples in 1805; in Calabria in 1806; in Egypt in 1807; at the taking of Ischia in 1809; at
the siege of Santa Maura in 1810; at the defeat of the French in Sicily, in the same year; in
the campaigns of 1811, 12, 13, 14 in the Peninsula and South of France. Severely wounded in
Germany on the 30th September 1796; and again at the battle of the Pyrenees, on the 30th
July 1813.
4 Major Spinluff served at the capture of the Cape of Good Hope in 1806.
5 Major Hamerton accompanied the 7 th Fusiliers to the Peninsula in Feb. 1809, and was
present at the capture of Oporto, battles of Talavera and Busaco, lines of Torres Vedras, sieges
of Ciudad Rodrigo and Badajoz, battles of Salamanca (severely wounded), Vittoria, Ronces-
valles, the heights of Pampeluna, and the Pyrenees, where he was again severely wounded.
Served also the campaign of 1815, and was present at the capture of Paris.
6 Major Christopher Wilkinson served the campaign of 1799 in Holland, under the Duke of
York. Accompanied the expedition to the north of Germany in 1805, under Lord Cathcart.
7 Major Sandham served the campaign of 1799 in Holland, including the actions of the 27th
Aug., 10th and 19th Sept, and 2d Oct. Expedition to Copenhagen in 1807; to Sweden, and
afterwards to Portugal and Spain, under Sir John Moore in 1808-9; subsequently to Walcheren,
in 1809; the campaign in Holland, in 1814; and in Flanders and France, in 1815, including the
battle of Waterloo.
8 Major Gore served with the 89th in the American war, including the actions at Chrystler’s
Farm and Niagara. Served also throughout the Burmese war, and commanded the 89th five
times in action during the war.
9 Major J. W. Henderson served with the 8th West India Regiment at the capture of the
Danish West India Islands, in 1801; and was afterwards present at the suppression of the
mutiny of that regiment at Prince Rupert’s, in Dominica. Served with the 3d West India
Regiment at the storming and capture of Morne Fortunee, in St. Lucia, and at the capture of
Tobago. Joined the 50th after the storming of Almaraz, and served in the Peninsula and
France until the peace of 1814. Severely wounded in the head at the capture of Aire, on the
2d March 1814.
10 Major Luard served in the Peninsula, France, and Flanders, from April 1809 to the end of
the war; as Lieutenant in the 4th Dragoons at the battle of Talavera, in the retreat to the lines
of Lisbon, occupation of them, actions of Pombal, Redinha, Condeixa, Campo Mayor, and Los
Santos; battle of Albuhera, actions of Usagre, Fuente Guinaldo, and Aldea de Ponte; sieges of
Ciudad Rodrigo, Badajoz, and Burgos, and battle of Yittoria; after which he served as Captain
in the 18th Hussars, at the battle of the Pyrenees in front of Pampeluna, battles of the Nivelle,
the Nive, Orthes, Toulouse, and Waterloo, and with the Army of Occupation in France until
August 1819.
11 Major Hutton served in the Peninsula with the 4th Dragoons, from Aug. 1811 to May 1813.
12 Major Greatly served in South America, under General Whitelock, in 1807; in Portugal
and Spain in 1808-9, including the cavalry action at Benevente, and battle of Corunna. Served-
also at the attack and capture of Guadaloupe in 1810.
13 Major the Honourable Sir Francis Stanhope served in the 11th Foot at the siege of Flush¬
ing, in 1809; and with the 1st Life Guards in the Peninsula and South of France, and was on
the Staff at the battle of Toulouse.
14 Major Mill was slightly wounded at Waterloo.
15 Major Edward Jones served as Adjutant of the 77th at Walcheren in 1809; and in the
Peninsula from July 1811 to the end of that war in 1814, including the action of El Bodon, also
the sieges and assaults of Ciudad Rodrigo and Badajoz. Severely wounded at the storming of
Ciudad Rodrigo.
16 Major Adair served with the 27th in Sicily in 1810 and 11; in the Peninsula and France
from 1812 to the close of that war in 1814, including the taking: of Alcoy, covering the retreat
from Biar, battle of Castalla, siege and subsequent blockade of Tarragona, and actions at Villa
Franca. Subsequently in Flanders and France, including the occupation of Paris in 1815.
17 Major Thomas Seward served at the battle of Copenhagen, in 1801; and at Navarin, in
1827.
18 Sir Trevor Wheeler served in the Peninsula with the 16th Light Dragoons from June 1810
to the end of that war in 1814, including the pursuit of Massena from the lines, actions of
Pombal, Redinha, Foz d’Arouee, and Sabugal; battle of Fuentes d’Onor, actions of Llerena and
Castrejon, battle of Salamanca, retreat from Burgos, battles of Yittoria, the Nivelle, and the
Nive, 9th to 12th Dec. Served also the campaign of 1815, including the battle of Waterloo.
19 Major H. A. Fraser served with the 42d in Portugal and Spain, in 1808-9, under Sir John
Moore, including the battle of Corunna, on the expedition to Walcheren in 1809; the Peninsular
campaigns from Aug. 1810 to Dec. 1812, and again from Feb. to July 1814, including the battles
of Busaco and Fuentes d’Onor, siege of Ciudad Rodrigo, battle of Salamanca, siege of Burgos,
(severely wounded through the body by a musket-shot), and battle of Toulouse, where he was
