73 Major Cay served in the New Zealand war of 1863-65, and commanded Detachments of 65th and 70th Regiments
at the storming of Rangiawhia ; also commanded Detachment 70th Regiment at the siege and capture of Orakau
and other operations (twice mentioned in despatches). Was specially mentioned for the very gallant manner in
which he rushed the enemy’s position of Okea near Warea on the 2nd August 1865 (Brevet of Major, and Medal).
74 Major J. G. Clarke served with the 46th Regt. in the Crimea from the nth July 1855, including the siege and
fall of Sebastopol (Medal with Clasp, and Turkish Medal).
74+ Major Clifford served with the 10th Regt. in the Punjaub campaign in 1849, and was present at the battle of
Goojerat (Medal with Clasp).
75 Major G. C. Close served with the 45th Regiment in the Abyssinian campaign in 1868, and was present at tho
storming and capture of Magdala (Brevet of Major, and Medal).
75 Major Clowes served the Eastern campaign of 1854 with the 8th Hussars, including the battles of Alma and
Balaklava, affairs of Bulganak and M’Kenzie’s Farm, and siege of Sebastopol: was wounded and taken a prisoner
and horse shot at the battle of Balaklava (Medal with three Clasps, and Turkish Medal). Served in Rajpootana in
1858-59, was pfesent at the capture of Kotah, battle of Kotaria, and commanded a Detachment of the 8th Hussars
in Brigadier Parkes’ long pursuit of the rebels and at their defeat at Chota Oodeypore (mentioned in despatches.
Brevet of Major, Medal with Clasp).
76 Major Cochran served the campaigns of 1813-14 in Canada, including the action at Moravian Town. Also tho
campaign of 1824-25 in Ava, including the capture of Rangoon and Martaban, siege and capture of Denobia, battles
of Prome and Pagahm Mew (Medal with Clasp). Served the campaign of 1842 in Affghanistan, and commanded a
Column of attack in the action of the 28th April in the Pisheen Valley ; present also in the actions near Candahar,
at Goaine, and before Ghuznee ; occupation and destruction of that Fortress and of Cabool. Expedition into Ko-
histan, storm capture and destruction of Istaliff, and in the numerous minor affairs in and between the Bolan and
the Khyber Passes (Medal).
77 Major T. Hugh Cockburn joined the Central India Field Force at Jhansi, and was appointea Aide de Camp to
Sir Hugh Rose, was present at the action at Koonch, those in front of and capture of Calpee, and recapture of
Gwalior (twice mentioned in despatches. Brevet of Major, Medal with Clasp).
78 Major William H. Cockburn was detached from Gibraltar for the defence of Tarifa in 1811-12, when the French
were defeated, leaving their guns behind; served subsequently in the Peninsula to the end of that war in 1814, and
was present at the investment of Bayonne and repulse of the sortie. Embarked afterwards for America, where he
served until the termination of the war with the United States.
79 Major Cocks served the Eastern campaign of 1854, and up to the 9th June 1855, with the 4th Regt., including the
battles in the Crimea and the siege of Sebastopol (Medal with three Clasps, and Turkish Medal).
80 Major Hon. John Colbome served with the 77th Regiment in the Crimea from Jan. 1855, including tho siege and
fall of Sebastopol (Medal with Clasp, and Turkish Modal).
81 Major W. J. Coney served the Eastern campaign of 1854-55 with tho ist Royal Dragoons, including the battles
of Balaklava, Inkerman, and Tchemaya, and siege of Sebastopol (Medal with three Clasps, and Turkish Medal).
82 Major R. Coupe served with the 15th Regiment in Canada during the reb lion in 1837-38, including the advance
upon Napier\rille, and subsequent pursuit of the insurgents. Also served with a detachment of the 15th Regiment
in defeating the insurgents during the suppression of the rebellion in the Kandian Provinces, Ceylon, in 1848.
83 Major Cowell served with the 3rd Light Dragoons throughout the campaign of 1842 in Affghanistan, and was
present at the forcing of the Khyber Pass, capture of Mamoo Khail, storming the Heights of Jugdulluck, actions of
Tezeen and Huftkotul, and occupation of Cabool (Medal). He was present as Aide de Camp to Sir Joseph Thack-
well in the action of Maharajpore on the 29th Dec. 1843 (Bronze Star). Served the Sutlej campaign of 1845-46, in¬
cluding the battles of Moodkee, Ferozeshah (charger killed), and Sobraon (Medal and two Clasps). Towards the
close of the Sutlej campaign he officiated as Deputy Assistant Quarter Master General of the Cavalry Division.
Served with the 10th Hussars in the Crimea from April 1855, including the capture of Tchorgaun, battle of the
Tchernaya, siege and fall of Sebastopol (Medal with Clasp, and Turkish Medal).
84 Major Croker served as Assistant Quarter Master General in the action at Zorapore near Kurnool on the 18th
October 1839 ; and also in a like capacity in the action at Maharajpore, 29th December 1843 (Bronze Star).
85 Major Crombie served with the 72nd Highlanders in the Crimean campaign from 13th June 1855, including the
expedition to Kertch, siege and fall of Sebastopol, and attack of the 18th June (Medal with Clasp, and Turkish
Medal). Served throughout the operations in Central India and pursuit of the rebel forces under Tantia Topee and
Rao Sahib in 1858-59.
86 Major Crosse served in the Eastern campaign of 1854 with the 88th Regiment, including the battles of Alma and
Inkerman (severely wounded), and siege of Sebastopol (Medal with three Clasps, Brevet of Major, and Turkish
Medal). Served in the Indian mutiny campaign in 1858, including the siege of Lucknow in March, and siege of
Calpee (Medal with Clasp for Central India).
87 Sir Charles Wheeler Cuffe served as 2nd Assistant Adjutant General on Lord Clyde’s Staff during the campaign
in Oude m 1858 and part of 1859, and was present in the actions of Doondiakeria, Mugedia, and the Raptee (Medal,
and Brevet of Major).
88 Sir William Cuninghame served the Eastern campaign of 1854-55 in tb® Riff® Brigade, including the battles of
Alma, Balaklava, and Inkerman, siege and fall of Sebastopol, attack and capture of the Rifle Pits on the night of 20th
Nov. 1854 (mentioned in despatches), and attack on the Ovens (Medal with four Clasps, Victoria Cross, 5th Class of
the Medjidie, and Turkish Medal).
90 Major Hon. W. H. Curzon served with the 17th Lancers in the Crimea from 13th July 1855. including the battle
of the Tchernaya, siege and fall of Sebastopol (Medal with Clasp, and Turkish Medal). Also the campaign of
1858-59 in Central India, including the action of Burode (Medal).
91 Major J. Cusack served with the 97th Regiment in the Crimean campaign of 1854-55, including the siege and fall
of Sebastopol, taking of the Quarries, and storming of the Redan on the 18th Juno and 8th Sept.—wounded (Medal
with Clasp, Medal for Distinguished Conduct in the Field, and Turkish Medal).
91t Major D’Acosta served with the 64th Regiment in the Persian campaign of 1856-57, including the bombard¬
ment of Mohumrah (Medal with Clasp). Also served in Bengal and N.W. Provinces in suppressing the mutiny in
1857-58, including the operations at and defence of Cawnpore under General Windham; also present in the action
of Kerkeroulie, capture of Bareilly, and affairs of Shahjehanpore and Mahomdie (Medal).
92 Major Dartnell served in the 86th Regiment with the Central India Field Force in 1857, and was present at tho
storm and capture of Chundaree, and led the only successful escalade attack on the fortress of Jhansi—severely
wounded, mentioned in despatches (Medal with Clasp, and Brevet of Major). Served in the Bhootan expedition in
1865 as Aide de Camp to Major General Tombs, and was present at the recapture of Dewangiri.
93 Major A. Davies commanded a Detachment 74th Highlanders at the destruction of a band of insurgent Moplas
on the 17th Sept. 1855 at Murroon in Malabar. Served in the Southern Mahratta Country in 1858, and commanded
the Infantry of the force at the capture of the town and Fort of Nurgoond (mentioned in despatch. Medal).
93* Major J. S. Day served with the 28th Reiriment in the Crimea from ist June 1855, including the siege and fall
of Sebastopol,«and affair in the Cemetery (Medal with Clasp, and Turkish Medal).
94 Major Dennis served with the 95th Regiment in the Crimea from the 21st Feb. 1855, including the siege and fall
of Sebastopol (Medal with Clasp, 5th Class of the Medjidie, and Turkish Medal).
95 Major R. V. Dickens served with the 64th Regiment in the Persian campaign of 1856-57, including the storm and
capture of Reshire, surrender of Bushire, and bombardment of Mohumrah (Medal with Clasp). Served in Bengal
and N.W. Province in suppressing the mutiny in 1857-58; present with Havelock’s Column in the actions of Futteh-
pore, Aoung, Pandoo Nuddee, Cawnpore (wounded), and Bithoor; inan affair at Shirazpore under Brigadier Wilson,
and was Assistant Engineer during the defence of Cavvnpore (Medal).
96 Major A. G. Dickson served with the 62nd Regiment in the Crimea from the 13th Nov. 1854 to the 7th July 1855,
including the siege of Sebastopol, attack of the Quarries on 8th June and of the Redan on the 18th June (Medal with
Clasp, and Turkish Medal). Was present with the Carabineers at the outbreak of the Sepoy mutiny at Meerut on
the 10th May 1857, and in the actions of the Hindun 30th and 31st May, battle of Budlekeserai, the affair of the 9th
June, ard subsequent operations before Delhi (Medal with Clasp).
Major Drage served in China during the war of 1857- 58 with the 59th Regiment, wns present during the occu¬
pation of Canton from March 1858, and accompanied the expedition to the Peiho river (Medal).
