2 Colonel Raikes served with the 1st Madras Fusiliers in the Burmese war of 1852-53, including the relief of Pegu
and subsequent operations in its vicinity, and commanded a Detachment at the recapture of Beeling (Medal with
Clasp for Pegu). Served in suppression of the mutiny in Bengal in 1857-58, and present with Havelock’s Column
at the actions of Futtehpore, Aoung, Pandoo Nuddee, and Cawnpore; commanded Detachment under General Neill
for the defence of Cawnpore during Havelock’s first entry into Oude; afterwards present at the actions of Bithoor,
Mungarwar, and Alumbagh, relief of Lucknow on 25th September and defence of the Residency until 22nd November,
occupation of the Alumbagh under Outram, and capture of Lucknow; campaign in Oude in 1858, including the pas¬
sage of the Goomtee at Sultanpore, and other minor affairs. Commanded a Field Column of all arms from 7th to 22nd
Oct. 1858, and defeated the enemy at Shahpore (Brevet of Major, Medal with two Clasps, a year’s service for
Lucknow, and CB.).
3 Lt.Colonel Preston served with the 44th Regt. throughout the Eastern campaign of 1854-55, including tho
battles of Alma and Inkerman, siege and fall of Sebastopol, attack and occupation of the Cemetery on the 18th
June (Medal with three Clasps, Brevet of Major, Knight of the Legion of Honor, 5th Class of the Medjidie, and
Turkish Medal). Served also the campaign of i860 in North China up to 25th August, and was present at the
action of Sinho, and capture of the Taku Forts (Medal with Clasp).
4 Major Hand served with the 82nd Regiment in the Crimea from the 2nd Sept. 1855, including the siege and fall
of Sebastopol (Medal with Clasp, and Turkish Medal). Served also in the N.W. Provinces in India in suppressing
the mutiny in 1857-58, including the relief of Lucknow by Lord Clyde, defence of Cawnpore and defeat of the
Gwalior Contingent, action of Kala Nuddee, and occupation of Futtehghur; served with the Royal Artillery at the
action of Khankur during the Rohilcund campaign, defence of the Jail of Shahjehanpore, affairs of Mahomdee and
Shahabad, and action of Bunkagaon (Medal with Clasp). Served with the 1st Sikh Cavalry in command of a
Squadron throughout the campaign in China in i860, including the action of Sinho, capture of Tangku, capture of
the Takoo Forts, actions at Chunkiawhan and Tongchow, destruction of the Emperor’s Palace, and surrender of
Pekin (Medal with two Clasps). Served throughout the Abyssinian campaign in 1868, attached to the Head Quarters
Staff* as Director to the Highland Transport Train and was present at the storming and capture of Magdala (twice
thanked by Lord Napier, mentioned in despatches, Brevet of Major, and Medal).
6 Captain Rennie served the campaign of i860 in the north of China, including the action of Sinho, storm and
capture of the Taku Forts (Medal with Clasp).
8 Captain Roberts served in the campaign of i860 in the north of China (Medal).
9 Lieut. Irvine served as Aidede Camp to Sir Charles Staveley in the campaign in the North of China in i860,
and during the occupation of Tientsin (mentioned in despatches, Medal with Clasp).
10 Lieut. Edgcumbe served with the expeditionary force under Brigadier Genera Harley in British Honduras in
February and March 1867.
11 Lieut. Wilkinson served with the first expedition against the Ashantees on the Gold Coast in 1863, as acting
Adjutant and in charge of Commissariat to the Western Division.
12 Lieut. Wynyard served with the 50th Regt. in New Zealand during General Chute’s campaign of 1866 (Medal).
