from its formation to Nov. 1855, and subsequently as Quarter Master General to the Army of
the East until June 1856; was present at the battle of Alma (wounded), affair of 26th
October, battle of Inkerman, siege and fall of Sebastopol—wounded (Medal and Clasp, Aide
de Camp to the Queen, CB., Officer of the Legion of Honor, Commander of 2nd Class of St.
Maurice and St. Lazarus, 3rd Class of the Medjidie, and Turkish Medal). Served with the
82nd Regt. in Rohilcund under Lord Clyde in 1858, and was present in various affairs and
skirmishes at Bareilly and Shahjehanpore. Commanded the districts at Cawnpore and Fut-
tehpore till the spring of 1859, and a force in pursuit of Ferozeshah and a rebel force to the
banks of the Jumna (Medal).
52 Colonel Brownrigg served the Eastern campaign of 1854-55, as Assist. Adjutant General,
including the battles of Alma and Inkerman, and siege of Sebastopol, and was Chief of the
Staff to Sir George Brown in the expedition to Kertch (Medal and Clasps, CB., Officer of the
Legion of Honor, 4th Class of the Medjidie, and Turkish Medal).
53 Colonel M'Murdo served as Assistant Quarter Master General of the Army under Sir
Charles Napier during the campaign in Scinde in 1843 (Medal), and was present in the battle
of Meeanee,—in which his horse was shot under him—skirmish with the enemy while conduct¬
ing Major Stack’s Brigade from Muttaree to form a junction with Sir Charles Napier’s force at
Hydrabad; and battle of Hydrabad, where he received a sabre wound in the right breast. He
again served as Assist.Quanermaster General to Sir Charles Napier’s Army during the cam¬
paign against the Mountain and Desert tribes situated on the right bank of the Indus, early
in 1845. Served in the Eastern campa:gn as Director General Land Transport Corps (Medal
and Clasp for Sebastopol, Officer of the Legion of Honor, 4th Class of the Medjidie, and
Turkish Medal).
54 Colonel Edwards served with the 18th Royal Irish throughout the war in China (Medal),
and was present at the attack upon Canton, at the taking of Amoy, Chapoo, Woosung,
Shanghai and Chinkiangfoo, and at the concluding operations before Nankin ; was employed
on the staff during the war, and afterwards appointed by Lord Gough Assistant Quarter
Master General to the Force in China. He served also with the 18th in the Burmah war from
July 1852 to the conclusion (Medal); was at the taking of Prome, and employed on a
detached command for six months, when the provinces of Padoung and Kanghein were cleared
of the enemy, after several skirmishes and severe marches, by the detachments under his
command. In January 1853 he led a party on special service from Prome to Arracan, for
which service the Government of India and General Godwin recorded their approbation.
Served at the siege and fall of Sebastopol from Dec. 1854 (Medal and Clasp, CB., Knight of
the Legion of Honor, 3rd Class of the Medjidie, and Turkish Medal). Received the Brevet
of Lt.Col. for his services in Burmab, and that of Colonel for services in the Crimea. Com¬
manded the Brigade at Mhow, at the termination of the Mutiny in 1858-59, and received the
thanks of the Governor General in Council, for the promptness of measures, whereby the
rebels under Tantia Topee were prevented entering Kandeish.
54+ Colonel Smyth commanded the 63th Light Infantry throughout the Eastern campaign
of 1854-55, including the battles of Alma and Inkerman (horse killed), siege and fall of
Sebastopol (Medal and Clasps, CB., Officer of the Legion of Honor, Sardinian and Turkish
Medals, and 4th Class of the Medjidie).
55 Colonel Wilkie commanded the 10th Hussars in the. Crimean campaign from the 17 th April
1855, including the capture of Tchorguun, battle of the Tchernaya, siege and fall of Sebastopol
(Medal and Clasp, 5th Class of the Medjidie, and Turkish Medal).
56 Colonel Tidy served with the 14th Regt. at the siege and capture of Bhurtpore in
1825-26 (Medal).
57 Colonel H. D. White served the Eastern campaign of 1854-55 in command of the
Inniskilling Dragoons, including the battles of Balaklava, Inkerman, and Tchernaya, and siege
and fall of Sebastopol (Medal and Clasps, Knight of the Legion of Honor, 4th Class of the
Medjidie, and Turkish Medal).
58 Colonel Robinson served the campaign in Affgbanistan and Beloochistan, including the
storm and capture of Ghuznee (severely wounded) and of Khelat : Medal for Ghuznee. He also
served in the Kaffir war of 1851-52-53, as Assistant-Quarter-Master General of the 2nd Division.
59 Colonel Wigston served with the 18th Royal Irish on the China expedition (Medal), at
Canton, Amoy, Chusan, Chinhae, Ningpo, Segoan, Chapoo, and Chin Kiang Too. Served also
in Burmah from July 1852 to the end of the war in 1853 ; was present at the capture of Prome;
and commanded the infantry, and subsequently, on the force being increased, the Right Wing
of the troops employed under Sir John Cheape in the Donabew district against Meah Toon, and
was severely wounded at the assault and capture of that chief’s last position on the 19th March
1853. Received the brevet of Major for the China service, and that of Lieut.-Colonel for the
Burmese service.
60 Colonel Rice served with the 51st during the war in Burmah from April to August
1852; was on board the E. L C. steam sloop Sesostris during the Naval action and destruction
of the enemy's stockades on the Rangoon River; served during the succeeding three days
operations in the vicinity, and at the storm and capture of Rangoon; also at the assault and
capture of Bassein, 19th May (severely wounded). Colonel Rice was mentioned in General
Godwin’s dispatches as “deserving the best consideration of Government” for capturing by
storm with his company and a sub-division of the 9th Madras Native Infantry the enemy’s
stronghold, and entrenched position south of Bassein, armed with sixteen guns and twenty
gingalls; honoured with the best thanks of the Governor-General in Council.
61 Colonel the Hon. R. C. II. Spencer served throughout the whole of the operations in
