War Services of the Lieutenants.
392 Lieut. Alexander Walker served in the Peninsula with the old 97th and was present at
the battles of Vimiera, Talavera, Busaco, and Albuhera, for which he has received the War
Medal with four Clasps.
393 Lieut. H. R. Wallace served in the Peninsula with the 7th Fusiliers and was present at
the battles of Busaco, Albuhera, Salamanca, Orthes, and Toulouse, and at the sieges of Ciudad
Rodrigo and Badajoz, for which he has received the War Medal with seven Clasps.
395 Lieut. William Walsh was present at the capture of Guadaloupe in 1810, for which he has
received the War Medal with one Clasp.
396 Lieut. Andrew Watson served the Waterloo campaign with the 33rd Foot.
397 Lieut. George Watson served in the Peninsula with the 3rd Dragoons from June 1813
to the end of that war in 1814, and was present at the battle of Toulouse.
398 Lieut. Wm. Henry Watson served the campaigns of 1813 and 14 in Spain and France
with the Royal Dragoons, and has received the War Medal with one Clasp lor the battle of
Toulouse.
399 Lieut. Thomas Weir served in the Peninsula with the Royals, and was present at the siege
of Bidajoz and battle of Salamanca, for which he has received the War Medal with two Clasps.
400 Lieut. William Weir served in the Peninsula with the 27th and was present at the siege
of Badajoz, and battles of Busaco, Vittoria, Pyrenees, and Nivelle, for which he has received
the War Medal with five Clasps.
401 Lieut. Welsh served in the Peninsula with the 11th, and was present at the battles of
Nivelle, Nive, Orthes, and Toulouse, for which he has received the War Medal with four Clasps.
402 Lieut. Wheatley served in the Peninsula with the 39th and was present at the battles of
Vittoria, Pyrenees, Nivelle, Nive, Orthes, and Toulouse, for which he has received the War
Medal with six Clasps.
403 Lieut. Fred. J. White served in the north of Spain with the Royal Marine Battalion
against the Carlists from March 1837 until April 1839. He was present at the capture of
Hernani, Fuentarabia, and Irun ; and was eleven months a prisoner of war in the hands of
the Carlists, closely confined, and several times sentenced to be shot. Served also on the
China expedition, from Feb. 1840, during the whole of the operations, and was in the
following actions, chiefly employed on shore, viz., assault and capture of the forts and
batteries of Chuen-Pee (wounded), attack on the Anunghoy forts (Bocca Tigris), when three
strong forts were carried in succession j first advance on Canton, including the destruction of
Hoqua’s Fort and other river defences; capture of the Heights of Canton, attack on Amoy,—
commanded a strong detachment of the Royal Marines, when the enemy were driven from
their guns, and the fortifications, &c., captured; second capture of Chusan, capture of the
citadel and walled city of Chinhae; capture of the city of Sykee, and of the Heights of Segoan;
attack on the Hill defences and capture of the city of Chapoo, capture of the batteries and city
of Woosung, capture of the batteries of Le-Shan, assault and capture of the city of Chin
Kiang Fco, and operations against Nankio.
404 Lieut. George White served in the Peninsula with the 36th and was present at the battle
of Salamanca, for which he has received the War Medal with one Clasp.
405 Lieut. Whitfield, when an ensign in the 7th West India Regt., volunteered and served
with the 1st Battalion of Royal Marines at the operations on the North Coast of Spain, and at
the taking and defence of Castro. He served in the Peninsula in 1812, 13, and 14, cn the
staff of Sir Parker Carroll; and with the 62nd at the capture of Paris in 1815.
406 Lieut. Whiting served on the Chinese expedition, and was present at the battle of Chu-
enpee, attack of the Anunghoy batteries, advance on Canton, capture of the heights of Canton,
capture of Colongso, second capture of Chusan, assault and capture of the citadel and city of
Chinhae.
4u7 Lieut. Wigley served at the capture of Martinique in 1809 and of Guadaloupe in 1810,
for which he has received the War Medal with two Clasps.
408 Lieut. Wigton served in the Peninsula with the 9th and was present at the battles of
Vimiera and Salamanca, for which he has received the War Medal with two Clasps.
409 Lieut. Wilford served in the Peninsula, and was present at the siege of Burgos, and
battles of Vittoria and Toulouse.
410 Lieut. Henry Wilkinson served the Waterloo campaign with the 40th Foot.
411 L eut. Willett served the Waterloo campaign with the 6th Dragoons.
412 Lieut. Robert Williams was present with the 25th at the capture of Guadaloupe in 1810,
for which he has received the War Medal with one Clasp.
413 Lieut. Willis served at Walcheren, and was present at the siege of Flushing. Served
also the Peninsular campaigns of 1811, 12, and 14, including the 2nd and 3rd sieges of Badajoz,
investment of Bayonne, and repulse of the sortie. He has received the War Medal with one
Clasp for Badajoz.
414 Lieut. Windle served with the 10th at the siege of Scylla Castle, in 1808. Present with
the Anglo.Sicilian army during the whole of its operations on the coast of the Faro, against
Murat. With the army on the eastern coast of Spain, in 1812 and 13.
415 Lieut. Frederick Wood was severely wounded at Waterloo.
416 Lieut. Henry Wood served in the Peninsula with the 76th, from June 1813 to the end of
that war in 1814, including the siege of San Sebastian, passage of the Bidassoa, battles of
