1 Sir Thomas M'Mahon served at the blockade of Malta in 1800. In the Peninsula in 1809, 10, 11, and part of 1812, in¬
cluding the operations against Marshal Massena, occupation of the positions defending Lisbon, pursuit of Massena, and
other desultory services. Early in 1813 he proceeded to Calcutta, and was appointed Adjutant-General to Her Majesty’s
forces in India. In 1817 and 18 he served in the field with the Marquis of Hastings, wheu his Lordship took command of
the army in person, and executed his brilliant and triumphant operations against the whole force of the coniederated
Mahratta States, which were in succession annihilated.
