50 Major-General Milman was appointed Aide-de-camp to Major-General Gatlin Craufurd,
in 1808, and was present at the battles of Roleia and Vimiera ; on the same General’s Staff in
the retreat of Sir John Moore, and was engaged on the heights of Lugo, and at the battle of
Corunna. He subsequently joined his regiment, the Coldstream Guards, at Lisbon, and was
with them at the passage of the Douro and capture of Oporto, as also at the battle of Talavera,
where he was most severely wounded, and saved from being burnt on the field of battle by a
private soldier of the Guards. He was made prisoner in the Hospital of Talavera, and detained
in France until 1814. Major-General Milman was latterly in command of the Coldstream
Guards. He has received the War Medal with four Clasps.
51 Major-General Reeve served with the Grenadier Guards in Sicily in 1806-7; Sir John
Moore’s campaign in 1808-9, and was present at the battle of Corunna. With the expedition
to Walcheren in 1809. Went to Cadiz in 1811, and remained in the Peninsula until the begin¬
ning of 1814 ; present at the passage of the Bidassoa, battles of the Nivelle and Nive. Served
also the campaign of 1815, including the battles of Quatre Bras and Waterloo, storming of
Peronne and capture of Paris. Remained with the Army of Occupation until its return to
Rngland in 1818. He has received the War Medal with three Clasps.
53 Major-General Gordon served in Holland in 1799 ; at Walcheren in 1809; and in the
Peninsula from 1810 to the end of that war in 1814, including the battle of Fuentes d’Onor,
action at Arroyo de Molino, battle of Vittoria—severely wounded in the left arm. Commanded
a light battalion in the actions of the Pyrenees, battles of the Nivo and St. Pierre (wounded
and horse killed under him), actions of Hasparen and Hellette—wounded in the right foot in
forcing the enemy’s lines at Hasparen, 14th Feb. 1814. He has received the gold Medal for
the Nive, and the silver War Medal with two Clasps for Fuentes d’Onor and Vittoria.
54 Major-General Kenah served in Holland in 1799, and was present in the action of the
19 th of Sept, as well as in several other minor affairs. In Egypt, under Sir Ralph Abercromby
in 1801; in Sicily from 1808 to 1812 ; subsequently on the eastern coast of Spain, as Assistant,
and afterwards as Deputy-Adjutant-General at the Head of the Department, and was present
at the battle of Castalla, as also several other affairs. Served also at the siege and capture of
Genoa, in April 1814.
55 Major-General Wynyard served with the army in Sicily from 1808 to March 1810, when
he was severely wounded at the attack on Santa Maura, for which he subsequently obtained the
Brevet rank of Major; he was also present and on the staff with the force that occupied Ischia
and Procida.
56 Major-General Fergusson served the campaign of 1808-9, including the battles of Vi¬
miera and Corunna. Expedition to Walcheren in 1809. Peninsular campaigns from March
1810 to the end of that war in 1814, including the passage of the Coa, near Almeida, battle of
Busaco, actions at Pombal, Redinha, Miranda de Corvo, Foz d’Arouce, and Sabugal ; battle of
Fuentes d’Onor, sieges and assaults of Ciudad Rodrigo and Badajoz, battle of Salamanca, action
of San Munos, passage of the Bidassoa, battle of the Nivelle, battles of the Nive on the 9th,
10th, 11th, 12th, and 13th Dec. 1813 ; and investment of Bayonne. Major-General Fergusson
has received five wounds, viz., at Vimiera, slightly ; at the storming of Ciudad Rodrigo,
severely in the body and slightly in the foot; at Badajoz, slightly in the side by a splinter of
a shell in the trenches, and in the head at the assault. He has received the gold Medal for
Badajoz, as senior surviving Officer of the Light Division Storming Party; and he also served
in the Storming Party at Ciudad Rodrigo and at the taking of the outworks of that place Fort
Reynard. He has also received the silver War Medal with eight Clasps.
57 Sir Adolphus John Dalrymple served as Aide-de-camp to Sir James Craig in the Eastern
District, Malta, Naples, and Sicily, from July 1803 to May 1806, and as Military Secretary
to Sir Hew Dalrymple in Portugal in 1808.
58 Sir James Reynett served with the 52nd on the expedition against Ferrol in 1800, and
was present at the action before that place. Appointed to the Quarter-Master-General’s staff
upon the army entering Spain in Nov. 1808; present at Lugo, the affairs upon the retreat to
Corunna, and also at the battle of Corunna. Re-appointed to the Quarter-Master-General’s
staff in Portugal, in April 1809; present at the affairs previous to and at the passage of the
Douro, and capture of Oporto; affair of Salamonde, battles of Talavera and Busaco, affairs
upon the retreat to the lines before Lisbon, and subsequently in 1811 at those upon the advance
from thence, at Pombal, Redinha, Sabugal, and Foz d’Arouce; also at the battle of Fuentes
d’Onor. He has received the War Medal with four Clasps.
59 Major-General Smelt served in the American war, and was present at the taking of
Plattsburg, storm and capture of Oswego, action of Lundy’s Lane, storming of Fort Erie, 13th
August 1814, where he was severely and dangerously wounded. Served also during the Bur¬
mese war, in 1824, 25, and part of 1826, and was present at the capture of Rangoon, and other
actions in Ava.
