114 War Services of the Majors.
Estramadura, under Marshal Beresford. He was likewise present at the battle of Albuhera,
and at the action of Arroyo del Molinos, for which lie received promotion.
37 Major O'Reilly served in the Peninsula with the 4th Dragoon Guards.
38 Major Noel served in St. Domingo, in 1796, 97, and 98, under Generals Boyer and
Sir Brent Spencer, and was wounded in the right thigh, when the French attacked the Cor¬
don of Posts, Served also at the capture of St. Lucia, Tobago, and the colonies of Demerara,
Issequebo, and Berbice.
39 Major Moyle Sherer served in the Peninsula from July 1809 to Dec. 1811, and from
August 1812 to July 1813, including the actions at Busaco, Albuhera, Arroya de Molinos,
Vittoria. and Maya in the Pyrenees.
40 Major William E. Maling served at Copenhagen, in 1807 ; and in the Peninsula,
in 1808.
41 Major Samuel Thorpe served in the Peninsula under Sir John Moore, including the
affair at Lugo and battle of Corunna. Capture of Walclieren, in 1809. Subsequently in the
Peninsula, including the sieges of Olivenfaand Badajoz, battles of Albuhera (twice wounded)
and Toulouse, when he was again severely wounded. Served afterwards in the American
war, and was present at Plattsburg.
42 Major Begbie served in the Peninsula from Aug. 1808 to Nov. 1809, including the
capture of Oporto, and battle of Talavera.
43 Major John Macpherson served in Hanover, in 1805 and 6 ; at Buenos Ayres, in 1807 ;
in Portugal and Spain from July 1808 to January 1809, including the battles of Roleia and
Vimiera, action at Lugo, and battle of Corunna. With the expedition to Walcheren, and
siege of Flushing, where he was wounded ; the Peninsular campaigns from May to Dec.
1812, including the battle of Salamanca, where he was severely wounded.
44 Major Kennedy served at Walcheren, in 1809, and was present at the siege of
Flushing.
45 Major Pinckney's services :—Expedition to South America, including the taking of
Maldonado, and siege of Monte Video ; battles of Roleia and Vimiera ; expedition to Wal¬
cheren ; received the flag of truce at the out-post, at the attack and capture of Ter Vere,
Middleburgh and Flushing.
46 Major Burrowes served at the capture of the Isle of France, in 1810.
47 Major Honeyman Mackay served with the expedition to Walcheren, and at the capture
of Flushing, in 1809. Served also in the Peninsula from June 1811 to the end of that war
in 1814, including the battle of Salamanca, retreat from Burgos, and battles of Vittoria
(wounded in the head), Pyrenees, Nivelle, and Orthes.
48 Major Gloster served in the Peninsula from Oct. 1809 to the end of that war in 1814,
including the battles of Busaco and Fuentes d'Onor, siege of the forts at Salamanca, battles
of Salamanca, the Pyrenees (28th July to 2nd Aug.), Nivelle, Nive, Orthes, and Toulouse.
Wounded in the left arm at the battle of Salamanca, and through the right breast at Toulouse,
the ball passing through the right lobe of the lungs and out at the back.
49 Major Harriott served fn the Royal Stall'('orps, at the defence of Cadiz, battle of
Barrosa, passage of the Bidassoa, battles of Nivelle and Nive, actions near Bidart, atfair of
'J'arbes, battle of Toulouse, capture of Paris, and with the Army of occupation in France.
50 Major James Kerr Ross served the camjiaigns of 1811, 12, 13, 14, and 15, includino-
the actions of Arroyo del Molinos, taking of Almaraz, defence of Alba de Tormes, battle of
Vittoria, affair at the pass of Maya, battles of the Pyrenees—wounded in the left leg by a
musket ball,—Nivelle, and Nive ; taking the Heights of La Costa, battle of Oithes, action at
Aire, battles of Toulouse, Quatre Bras—wounded in the left foot by a musket ball, and
Waterloo—wounded in the right arm by a musket ball.
51 Major Thornhill served at the capture of the islands of Guadeloupe, St. Eustatia, and
St. Martin, in 1810.
52 Major Bullock served the campaign of 1815, including the battle of Waterloo and
capture of Paris.
53 Major Fitz Maurice served in the Peninsula from April 1811 to the end of that war
in 1814, including the action of Sabugal, battle of Fuentes d'Onor, sieges and assaults of
Ciudad Rodrigo and Badajoz, action at San ]VHlan, battle of Vittoria, actions at the Bridge
of Yanzi and Vera, battles of Nivelle and Nive, action of Tarbes, and battle of Toulouse.
Served also the campaign of 1815, including the battle of Quatre Bras. Leg broken at
the storming of Badajoz, and severely wouuded in the thigh by a musket ball at Quatre
Bras.
54 Major James Dudgeon Brown served the campaign of 1814 in Holland, and was pre¬
sent at the storming of Bergen-op-Zoom.
55 Major George Dry Hall served in the Peninsula from 1812 to the end of that war in
1814, including the retreat from Burgos, passage of the Bidassoa, battles of Nivelle and
Nive, investment of Bayonne, affairs of Vic Bigorre and Tarbes, and battle of Toulouse.
Served the campaign of 1815, including the battle of Waterloo, and with the Army of oc¬
cupation. Also as Assistant Quarter-Master General in Canada, during the disturbances of
1838; and as Military Secretary to the Governor General, in 1839 and 1840.
