657 War Services of the Officers of the Militia.
13 Captain Hartshorn served with the 24th Regt. in Canada, during the rebellion of 1837-38,
and was present at the bombardment of Navy Island; also the Punjaub campaign of 1848-49, as
Adjutant of the 24th, including the passasre of the Chenab, action of Sadoolapore, and battles of
Chillianwallah (wounded),and Goojerat (.Medal and Clasps).
14 Lt.Col. Mathlas served in the Sutlej campaign of 1845-46 (Medal and one Clasp); com¬
manded a strong detachment of 11. M. Troops at the affair of Buddiwal; was in command at the
battle of Aliwal, where he had charge of the howitzers (named in the Dispatches, and made Brevet
JVIajor) ; and commanded the Grenadier Company 62nd Regt. at the battle of Sobraon (wounded).
17 Captain Robinson served with the 4th Regt. the Eastern campaign of 1854 and up to 24th May
1855, including the battles of Alma and Inkerman and siege of Sebastopol (Medal and three
Clasps, and Turkish Medal).
Zieitrim.—Major Hon. W. J. Forbes served with the Grenadier Guards in the Crimea from
29th Dec. 1854 and has the Medal with Clasp for Sebastopol, and Turkish Medal.
Iiincoln.—2 Captain Telford served in the Peninsula from March 1812 to the end of the war,
including the battle of Salamanca, retreat from Burgos, action of Villa Muriel, affair at Osma,
battle of Vittoria, carrying the outworks of San Sebastian 17th July, and first assault on the body
of the fortress 25th July; also second assault and capture 31st Aug. 1813 ; battles of the Nivelle
10th Nov., and Nive 9th, 10th, and 11th Dec. 1813. Served subsequently in the American war.
He has the War Medal with five Clasps for Salamanca, Vittoria, St. Sebastian, Nivelle, and Nive.
3 Captain Mulhall served twenty-seven years in the 17th Regt., and was present with it in the first
Affghan campaign in 1839, including the capture of the fortresses of Ghuznee (Medal), and Khelat.
4 Captain Bowman served in the Commissariat Department in the Peninsula and south of France
in 1812-13-14; and subsequently in the American war, and was present at New Orleans and Fort
Bowyer in 1815 ; also in Belgium and France with the Army of Occupation in 1815-16.
Iiimerick.—1 Captain Low served with the 53rd Regt. in the campaign on the Sutlej in
1846, including the battles of Aliwal and Sobraon (Medal and Clasp).
2 Qr.Master Neary served the Eastern campaign of 1854-55, including the battles of Alma,
Balaklava, and Inkerman (Medal and Clasps, and Turkish Medal).
4 Lord Clare served on the Staff in the Peninsula, and was present at the battle of Busaco
(Medal and Clasp).
Iiondon.—2 Captain Hobson served with the 72nd Bengal N.I. throughout the 1st and 2nd
siege operations before Mooltan in 1848-49, including the storm and capture of the city and sur¬
render of the fortress and garrison, affair of the 9th Sept., assault of theSuburbs on 27th Dec. 1848;
also present at the surrender of the fort and garrison of Cheniote, and at the battle of Goojerat
(Medal and two Clasps).
Longford.—1 Colonel White served in the Peninsula with the 14th Light Dragoons, and has
received the War Medal with two Clasps for Badajoz and Salamanca.
2 Lieut. Gore served as a Lieutenant in the 7th Hussars in the Indian Campaign in 1858, in¬
cluding the affair of Meangunge, siege and capture of Lucknow, as orderly officer to Brigadier C.
Hagart, also present at the operations across the Goomtee, attack on fort Ruyaghur, action of
Allygunge, capture of Bareilly, relief of Shahjehanpore (Medal and Clasp, and mentioned in
despatches).
3 Captain King Harman served with the 60th Rifles the campaign in Rohilcund in 1858,
including the actions of Bugawalla and Nugena, relief of Moradabad, action on the Dojura,
assault and capture of Bareilly, attack and bombardment of Shahjehanpore, defeat of the rebels
and relief of the garrison (Medal).
IiOuth.—1 Captain Chaplin served with the 49th Regt. in the Crimea from 15th June to
8th Aug. 1855, including the siege of Sebastopol and assault of the Redan on the 18th June
(Medal and Clasp, and Turkish Medal).
Mayo.—1 Captain Leet served in the Eastern campaign of 1854 in the 20th Regt., including
the battle of Alma (Medal and Clasp).
middleaex.—2 Captain Mangles served with the 50th Regt. in the Eastern campaign of 1854,
including the battles of Alma and Inkerman, and siege of Sebastopol (Medal and Clasps, and
Turkish Medal).
Monaghan.—1 Captain Henderson served in the Indian campaign of 1857-58, and in June
1857 was attached to an Irregular Levy of 1400 men engaged in the district for the protection of
Agra, being also vested with the powers of Joint Magistrate in the district of Agra, Allyghur,
and Muttra; present at the action of Agra on 5th July and was afterwards Assistant Field
Engineer in the Fort; in October was appointed Orderly Officer to Col. Greathed, present at the
action of Dilkhoosha and relief of Lucknow by Lord Clyde, the affair at Kanouge, affair of the
2nd Dec. and action of the 6th Dec. at Cawnpore; served afterwards as Aide de Camp to General
Franks and present at the actions of Nusrutpore, Chanda, Umeerpore, Sultanpore, and Dhowraha,
siege and capture of Lucknow (wounded by an explosion) including the storming of the Emaum-
bara and Kaisabagh (Medal and two Clasps).
2 Major Woodwright served with the 18th Royal Irish throughout the war in China (Medal)
and was present at the taking of Amoy, Chapoo, Shanghai, and Chinkiangfbo. He also served
with the 18th in the Burmah war of 1852-53 to the conclusion (Medal) and was present at the
naval action and destruction of the enemy's stockades on the Rangoon river, lauded in command
of a company of tlie Royal Irish and with the Marines of the Fox frigate stormed and destroyed
the Dalla stockades ; served during the three succeeding days' operations in the vicinity and at the
storm and capture of Rangoon, and on the 14th April was with the storming party at the Great
Dagon Pagoda, also present at the capture of Prome and repulse of the night attack on the heights
of Prome in Jan. 1853; commanded a company of the 18th during the whole of the successful
operations in tho Donabew district including the 17th March 1853 (wounded) when the 18th
