5 Major Austin served in the Peninsula from Oct. 1811 to April 1812, including the siege and
storm of Ciudad Rodrigo, for which he has received the War Medal with one Clasp. Campaign
of 1814 in Holland, including the taking of the fortified village of iMerxoin. Campaign of 1815,
including the battle of Waterloo.
7 General Bacon served in the Peninsula with the IGth Lancers from rebruary 1813 to the
end of that war in 1814, and was present at the battle of tlie Pyrenees on the iSth July, with the
covering party during the siege of San Sebastian, the different affairs on the Bidassoa and
passage of tliat river, battle of the Nivelle, actions of the 0th, lOlh, llth, I2th, and 13th Dec.
consequent on the passage of the Nive, passage of the Adour, besides various minor affairs (Wat
Medal witii two Clasps). Served the campaign of 1815 with the 10th Hussars, including the
battle of Quatre Bras, retreat on the 17th June, and battle of Waterloo, at which he was severely
wounded in tlie last charge, and had two horses shot. In 1832 he was appointed Colonel Com¬
mandant of the Portuguese Cavalry : during the siege of Oporto, overcoming many difficulties
and daily exposed to fire, he formed that Regiment of Lancers which rendered so many important
services ; was promoted General on the field of battle at Loures 12th Oct. 1833, by the Emperor
Dom Pedro in person, and he retained command of the Cavalry until the termination of ihe war,
having taken part in nearly all the battles, sorties, and other operations. Eor upeoial services
was created at different periods a Knight, an Officer, and a Knight Cummandor of the Tower and
Sword, and lias the Portuguese Cross.
8 Sir David Baird served with the 74th Highlanders throughout the Kaffir warof 1851-53 (Medal).
9 Major F. W. Balfour served with the 2rid Battalion Rifle Brigade in the Eastern campaign
of 1854-55, including the assault of the Redan on the 8th Sept., and siege and fall of Sebastopol
(Medal and Clasp, Brevet of Major, and Turkish Medal).
10 Major Barnston served with the 55tli Regt. in tlie Eastern campa'gn of 1854-55, including
the battles of Alma and Inkerman (severely wounded), siego of Sebastopol and sortie of 2Gth
October (Mtdal and Clasps, Knight of the Legion of Honor, and Tuikish Medal).
11 Major Baylcy served with the 52nd Lt. Inf. at the defeat of the S-alkoto mutineers on the
banks of the Ravee on tlie 12th and 16th July 1857; also at the siege of Dellii, and commanded
and led the storming party of the 3rd Column at the assault of the Cashmere Gate on 14tll
Sept., whei'c ho was severely wounded (Brevet of Major, Medal and Clasp).
12 Lord George Beauclerk served with the lOtli Hussars in the Crimea from 7tli July 1855,
including the battle of the Tchernaya, siege and fall of Sebastopol (Me lal and Clasp, and Turkish
Medal).
13 Captain Bell served throughout the Kaffir war of 1850-52 (Medal) on the stafi" of Major
General Somerset, commanding the Ist Division, and w;is present in every engagement with the
division ; commanded a detachment of Cape Mounted Rifles at the Kaffir attack on Tort Hare
and Alice, 21 Jan. 1851, when the enemy were rejiulsed witli groat loss.
14 Major Bere served with the 16th Lancers during the campaign in AfTghauistan, under Lord
Keane, and was present at the siege and capture of Ghuznce (Medul); and he coinman:Ied the
party of tlie ICth Lancers,under Brigadier Cureton, sent to seize the guns and secure the posses¬
sion of the citadel of Cabool,aud was appointed at Cabool Assistant .Adjutant General of Cavalry,
and continued so until the reduction of Lord Keane's army in the Provinces. Also tliecampaign on
the Sutlej in 184G (Medal), including the battles of Buddiwal, Aliwal (wounded), and Sobraon.
15 Major Best served with the 34tli Regt. at tlie siege and fall of Sebastopol i'rom 10 Aug. 1856,
and assault of the Redan on the 8th Sept. (Medal and Ciasp, and Turkish Medal). Served in
the Indian campaign in 1857-58, and was present at the affair of Pandoo Nuddue on 2(3th Nov.
and subsequent operations at Cawnpore under General Windham, also at the storm and capture
of Meangunge and siege and capture of Lucknow (Brevet of Major, Medal and Clasp),
10 Major Bethune served with the 92nd Highlanders in the Indian campaign of 1857-58, and
was present at the actions of Rajghur, Mungrowlie, and Sindwaho, and affaix's of Kurai and
Burode (twice mentioned in desjiatches. Medal, and Brevet of Major).
lot Major Birtwhistle served with the 32nd Regt. in the Punjab campaign of 1848-49,
including the second siege operations before Moollan, including the storm and caiiture of the
city, and surrender of the fortress; also at the surrender of the fort and garrison of Choiiiote,
and battle of Goojerat (Medal and Clasps).
17 Major Blakeney served with the 48th Rrgt. in the Crimea from 2nd June 1855, at the siege
and fall of Sebastopol, and on detached duty in tlie Dockyard from 14th January to 14th March
1850 (Medal and Clasp, Brevet nf Majoi-, and Turkish Medal).
18 Major Bligh served with the (iOth Rifles in the Kaffir war of 1851-53 (MedolJ.
19 Major Brady served the campaigns of 1813, 14, and 15, in the Peninsula, France, and
Flanders, with the Royal Horse Guards, and was present at the battles of the Kivelle, Nive,
Bayonne, Orthcs, Toulouse, and Waterloo, at which last he was severely wounded, and lu-d a
horse shot under hiin.
21 Major Briggs served with the 1st Dragoon Guards in the Crimea from lOth August 1855,
including thebattle of the Tchernaya and siege of Sebastopol (Medal and Clasp, and Turkish Medal).
23 Major Burslem served the campaigns of 1838, 3D, and 40 in AfTghanistan, with the 13th,
and was present at the stjrni and capture of Ghuznce (Mtdiil), assault and capture of the town
and fortress of Tootuind'irrah, storm of Joolghur, night attack at Baboo Koosh Ghur, destruction
of Khardurrah, and assault of Perwandurrah,
