War Services of Retired Lieutenant Colonels. 117a
180G; the Peninsular campaigns from Dec. 1812 to Feb. 1814, including the battle of Vittoria,
siege of San Sebastian, and battle of the Nive, where he was wounded in the shoulder and
thigh. Campaign of 1815, including the battle of Waterloo, storming of Cambray, and capture
of Paris. Commanded the regiment at the siege and capture of Bhurtpore, in 1825-6, under
Lord Combormere, and was slightly wounded in the arm. He has received the Gold Medal
for San Sebastian, having commanded the regiment there ; and the Silver War Medal with
three Clasps for Vittoria, Nivelle, and Nive.
71 Lieut.Colonel F. H. Fuller proceeded to the Peninsula iu 1808, and was present with the
63rd Regt. at the capture of Oporto, battles of Talavera, Busaco, and Fucntes d'Onor, besides
various skirmishes. He has received the War Medal with two Clasps for Talavera and Busaco.
72 Lieut.Colonel Garner joined the 1st Battalion of the 40th Kcgt. in the Pyrenees in 1813,
and he served in tlie campaign of that and the following year. He has received the War Medal
with one Clasp for Nivelle.
73 Licul.Colonel Girardot served in the Peninsula with the Coldstream Guards from Jan.
1813 to the end of the War in 1814, and was present at tlie battle of Vittoria, the passage of the
Bidassoa, capture of St. Jean de Luz, battles of Nivelle and Nive, and investment of Bayonne,
and has the War Medal with three Clasps. Served also with tlie Army of Occupation in France.
74 Lieut.Colonel Gooch served in Holland in 1814, and commanded an advanced party in
protection of the ladders at the attack on Bergen-op-Zoom. Present with the Light Companies
of tiie second Brigade of Guards at the battle of Quatre Bras, and assisted in the defence of
Hougoumont at the battle of Waterloo.
7.J Lieut.Colonel Gordon served the campaigns of 1816, 17, and 18, in Malwa ; in the Persian
Gulf in 1819 and 20, and in Ava in 1825 and 20. Wounded at Donabew 2Cth March, and on
the Heights near Prome, 2nd Dec. 1825.
70 Lt.Colonel Grove served throughout the Kaffir war of 1846-47 (Medal). Served also in
the Crimea at the siege and fall of Sebastopol, and was severely wounded at the assault of the
Redan on the 8th Sept. (Medal and Clasp, Brevet of Lt.Col., Knight of the Legion of Honor, and
Turkish Medal).
77 Lord George Lennox served in the 0th Lancers and 15th Hussars during the campaigns of
1812, 13 and 14 in the Peninsula; was present at the affair of Morales de Toro, battle of
Vittoria, blockade of Pampeluna, and battle of tlie Pyrenees, and served as Aide de Camp to
the Duke of Wellington at the battles of Nivelle, Nive, Orthes, and Toulouse, from which last
place he brought home the despatches. Also served as Aide dc Camp to the Duke of Welling¬
ton in the campaign of 1815 including the action at Quatre Bras, battle of Waterloo, and
occupation of Paris. Has received the War Medal with six Clasps, and the Waterloo Medal.
78 Lt.Colonel Hague served with the 07th Regt. throughout the camjjaign of 1800 in North
China, including the action of Sinho, taking of Tangku, capture of the inner Taku Fort, and sur¬
render of Pekin (Medal with two Clasps).
79 Lt.Colonel Henry Hardinge served in the Kaffir war from Nov. 1846 until its termination
in 1847 ; and in that of 1852-53 (Medal). Also in the expedition against the insurgent Boers
N. E. of the Great Orange River in Aug. 1848, when he was present and slightly wounded in
the action at Boem Plaats. Served the Eastern campaign of 1854, including the battles of Alma
and Inkerman, and siege of Sebastopol (Medal and Clasps, Brevet Major, 5th Class of the Med-
jidie, and Turkish Medal).
80 I,t.Colonel Hugh Halkett served with the 2nd Light Infantry Battalion of the King's Geiman
Legion on the expedition to the North of Germany in 1805-0. Landed on the Island of Rugen
in July 1807 ; was employed at the siege of Stralsund, and in August re-embarked at Rugen for
Copenhagen, where the battalion formed part of the besieging corps. In April 1808 embarked
with Sir John Moore's ai-my for Qottenburg, and from thence to Portugal; belonged to the army
which entered Spain with Sir John, and afterwards retired through Gallicia. Accompanied the
expedition to Walcheren, and was present at the siege of Flushing. In Jan. 1811 embarked for
Portugal; commanded the battalion at the battle of Albuhera, and was at the siege of Badajoz in
1811 ; commanded the battalion during the campaign of 1812, including the siege of the forts at
Salamanca, action of the heights of Moresco, battle of Salamanca, and retreat fi-om Burgos when
the Light Brigade K. G. L. formed the rear-guard witli the cavaliy, and repulsed the repeated
charges of the enemy's cavalry. In April 1813 embarked for tlie Nortli of Germany, and was
employed in organizing the Hanoverian troops; commanded a brigade of the same in Count Wal-
inodeu's army, and was engaged at the battle of Goerde, as also on several other occasions. In
Jan. 1814 commanded the centre of the corps which besieged and ca|itured Gluckstadt. Com¬
manded the riglit of the coi-ps"which was employed at the blockade of Harburg. Served also the
campaign of 1815, and was present at the battle of Waterloo. He has received the Gold Medal
and one Clasp for the battles of Albuhera and Salamanca.
81 Lt.Colonel James Halkett served with the Coldstream Guards in the Crimea from 18th Oct.
to 7th Nov. 18.54 and was present at the siege of Sebastopol, and battles of Balaklava and Inker-
man—severely wounded (Medal and Clasps, Knight of the Legion of Honor, 5th Class of the
Medjidie, and Turkish Medal).
82 Lieut.Colonel George Hall served iu the Peninsula from January 1811 to June 1812, and
again from October 1813 to the end of that war in 1814, including the battle of Fuentes d'Onor,
sieges of Cindad Rodrigo and Badujoz (severely wounded), battle of the Nivc, Orthes, and Tou¬
louse. Served also the campaign of 1816, and was present at the battle of Waterloo.
83 Lieut.Colonel Hammill served the campaign of 1814 in Upper Canada.
84 Lieut.Colonel Harding served in the Peninsula witli the 5th Regt. from August 1812, to
the end of that war in 1814, including the retreat from Burgos and Madrid, battle of Vittoria,
blockade of Pampeluna, battles of the Pyrenees from the 2Gth to the 29th July, the Nivelle and
the Nive (from 9th to 13th Dec); passage of the Gave d'Oleron, battle of Orthes, actions of Vic
Bigorre and Tarbes, and battle of Toulouse.
