under Major Oencral Robert Craufurd in 1809 ; was seriously wounded in the action upon the bridge of the Coa near
Almeida, Commanded a Company in the pursuit of Massena from the Lines of Lisbon ; at the actions of Rcdinha,
Condeixa, and Foz d'Aronce. Appointed Brigade-Major to the 2nd Light IJri;rade in the Light Division, and was present
in the action uf Sabugal, battle of Fuentcs d'Onor, sie^e and storm of Ciudad Rodrigo, siege and storm of liadajoz, battles
of Salamanca and Viltoria, attack of the heights of Vera and passage of the Bidassoa, battle of Sarre, attack upon the
position of St. Jean cle uz Land heights of Arcangui'Z, battle of Orthes, aiFair at Tarbcs, and battle of Toulouse. Appointed
Assistant Adjutant-General to the troops under Major-General Ross destined against Washington, and was present at the
battle of Bladensburg and destruction of Washington. Brought home Dispatches, and went out again immediately under
Sir Edward Pakenham, and was present at the attack upon the enemy's lines near New Orleans. After the deatli of Sir
Edward he was appointed Military Secretary to Sir John Lambert, commanding the Army, and was present at the siege
and taking of Fort Bowyei. Appointed Assist.-Quarter-Master-General to the tJth Division of the Army under the Duke
of Wellington, and was present at the battU- of Waterloo. In 1828 he was appointed D. Q. M. Gen. at the Cape of Good
Hope, and commanded a division under Sir Benjamin D*Urban throughout the operations against the Kaffir tribes in
1834 and 1835, In 1810 he proceeded to the East Indies as Adjutant-General, and was nominated a KCB. for the action
of Maharajpore, in which battle he was present as Adjutant-General; and for his distinguished services in the campaign on
the Sutlej and brilliant victory over the Seikhs at Aliwal, he was nominated a OCB. and afterwards created a Baronet.
Finally, as Governor and Commander-in-chief at the Cape nf Good Hope, he attacked and defeated the rebel Boers at Boera
Plaats 29th Aug. 1848. Sir Harry has received the War Medal and twelve Clasps.
2 Sir George Hrown served at the siege and capture of Copenhagen in 1807, in the Peninsula from Ang-.
1808 to July 1811; and again from July 1813 to May 1814, including ilie battle of Vimiera, passage of tRe
Douro and capture of t)porto, witli the previous and subsequent actions; battle of Talavera (severely
wounded tlirouj^li both Ihiglis), action of tlie Light Division at the bridge of Almeida, battle of Busaco, the
(litferent actions during tlie retreat of the French army from Portugal, action at Sabugal, battle of Fuentes
d'Onor, siege of San Sebastian, battles of the Nivelle and Xive, and tiic investment of Bayonne. Served
afterwards in the American war, and was present at the bLUtIc of Bladensburg and capture of Wasliingtnn.
Slightly wounded in Ihe head and very severely in the groin at Bhidensburg. Ke has received the War
Aledal with seven Clasps. Commanded the Light Division throughout the Eastern campaign of 1854-65,
including the battles of the Alma (horse jshot under him), Ualaklava, and Inkernian (severely wounded—
shot through the arm), and siege of Sebastopol(Medal and four Clasps, GCB., Grand Cross of the Legion of
Honor, 1st Class of the Medjidie, and Sju'diniun Medal).
3 Colonel Horsford served with the Kifle Brigade in the Kaffir war of 1846-47, nnd commanded the 1st
Battalion in that of 1852-53 (Medal and Brevet Lt.-Colonel). Also commanded the 1st Battalion in the
Eastern campaign of 1854, including the battles of the Alma, Balaklava, and Inkerman, and siege of
Sebastopol (Medal and Clasps, CB., and Sardinian Medal).
4 Lt.-Colonel Somerset served in the Kaffir war of 1852-53 (Medal). Also the Lastern campaign of
1854-65, including the battles of Aimu, Balaklava, and Inkerman, and siege of Sebastopol (Medal and
Clasps, and Kniglit of the Legion of Honor).
5 Lt.-Col. Macdonell served in the Kaltir war of 184G-47 (Medal). Also the Eastern campaign of 1854
as Aide-de-Carap to Sir George Hrown, including the battles in the Crimea, and siege of Sebastoixil (Medal
and Clasps, Brevets of Major and Lt.-Col., CB., Knight of the Legion of Honor, and Surdinian Mc(hil).
G Lt.-Col. Elrington served the Eastern campaign of 1854, including the battles of Alma and Inkernian, and
siege of Sebastopol (Medal and Clasps, Brevet Major, and Knight of the Legion of Honor).
7 Lord Alexander Russell served in the Kaffir war of 1852-53 (Medal) as D. A. Q. M. G. to the 1st Di¬
vision, and was present at the battle of Berea : received the brevet rank of Major. Served also at the siege
of Sebastopol from June 1855 (Medal and Clasp, Brevet Lt.-Colonel, and Sardinian Medal).
8 Lieut.-Colonel Woodford served in the Kaffir war of 1852-53 (Medal). Also the Eastern campaign of
1854-55 as a D. A. Q. M. G. at Head Quarters, and was wounded at the attack on the Redan on 8th Sept,
(Medal and Clasps, Brevets of Major and Lt.-Colonel, and Sardinian Medal).
9 Major Hardinge served in the Kaffir war from Nov. 1846 until its termination in 1847; and in that
of 1S52-53 (Medal). Also in the expedition against tlie insurgent Boers N. E. of the Great Orange River in
Aug. 1848, when he was present and slightly wounded in the action at Bocm Plaats. Served the Eastern
campaign of 1854, including the batllesof Alma and Inkertnan, and siege of Sebastopol (Medal and Clasi)s,
and Brevet Major).
10 Lt.-Col. Glyn served as Field Adjutant to the force under Sir Harry Smith in the action with and de¬
feat of the rebel Boers at Boem Plaats (horse killed). Served in the Kaffir war of 1852-53 (Medal). Also
the Eastern campaign as a Brigade-Major in the Light Division, including the battles of the Alma and
Inkerman, and siege of Sebastopol (Medal and Clasps, Brevets of Major and Lt.-Col., and Knight of the
Legion of Honor).
11 Lt.-Col. Fyers served in the 40th tlironghout the operations in Candahar and Affghanistan in 1841 and
1842 (Medal), and was present in the actions at Kale Shukh, Kunje Kuk, Panirwaie, Tiloo Khan, and Baba
AVallie; also at the relief of Khelat-i-Ghilzee; subsequently at Killa Aziem, Goaine, Ghuznee, and occu¬
pation of Cabool; and in all the affairs in which the Candahar Division of the Army of Aifghanistan, under
General Nott, was engaged in its progress through the Khoord Cabool, Tezeen, Jugdulluck, and Khyber
Passes. Served the Eastern campaign of J854 with the Rifle Brigade, including the battle of Alma, siege
of Sebastopol, and attack on the Redan on 8th Sept. (Medal and Clasps, Brevet Mnjor, and Knight of the
Legion of Honor).
12 Major Walker served at the siogeof Sebastopol from Jan. 1855 (Medal and Clasp, arid Brevet Major),
13 Major Edward Newdigato served the Eastern campaign of 1854, including the battles of Alma and
Inkerman (wounded), and siege of Sebastopol (Medal and Clasps, and Brevet Major). Major Newdigate is
a Kniglit of the Legion of Honor.
14 Major Hon. G. Elliot was Aide-de-Camp to Sir Geo. Cathcart in the Kaffir war of 1852-53 (Medal);
and hu was also present at the battle of Berea, Served the Eastern campaign of 1854-55 as D. A. Q. M. G.
to the 4th Division, including the battle of Alma and siege of Sebastopol(Medal and Clasps, Brevet Major, and
Sardinian Medal).
15 Majur Hon. W. J. Colvillo served in the Eastern campaign of 1854-55, including the battle of Alma,
siege and fall of Sebastopoi (Medal and two Clasps, Brevet Major, Knight of the Legion of Honor, and
Sardinian Medal).
10 Major Oxeuden served on the Eastern Frontier of the Cape of Good Hope against the Kaffir Tribes
in 1846-7-8 (Medal), and was engaged in the successful operations in the Amatola Mountains against
Sandiili. Served at the siege and fall of Sehastopoi from June 1855 (Medal and Clasp, arid Brevet Major).
18 Captain E. M. Buller served in the Kaffir war of 1840-47, and in that of 1852-53(Medai).
19 Major Hon. James Stuart served in tlie Eastern campaign of 1854 (Medal and Clasp), including the
battle of Alma and siege of Sebastopol, and commanded the covering parly leading the attack on the
Redan on the 18th June (Medal and Clasps,Brevet Major, and Sardinian Medal).
20 Lt.-Col. Hon. L, Cur/on served in the Kaffir war of 1852-53 (Medal); also at the battle of Berea,
Served the Eastern campaign of 1854-55 as Assistant Military Secretary to Lord Raglan, and afterwurds to
General Simpson (Medal and Clasps, Brevets of Major and Lt.-Col., Knight of the Legion of Plonor, and
Sardinian Medal).
22 Captain Brewster served in the Kaffir war of 1852-53 (Medal).
23 Major Coote Buller served the Eastern campaign ot 1854, including the battles of Alma and Inkerman
(severeU- wounded), and siege of Sebastopol (Medal and Clasps).
24 Captain the Hon. Barrington Pellew served with the 43rd in the Kaffir war of 1851-52 (Medal). Also
at the siege of Sehastopoi, and was wounded at the attack on tlie Redan on 8th Sept, (Medal and Clasp).
26 Major Warren served in the Eastern campaign uf 1854-55, including the battle of Alma and siege of
Sebastopol (Medal and Clasps, and Brevet Major).
26 Captain Rowles served in the Eastern campaign, including the battles of Alma and Inkcrman, and
siege of Sebastopol until Feb. 1855 (Medal and three Clasps).
