882 War Services of the Officers of the Militia Infantry.
Egyptian Army on the Bedouin Frontier and on the Lines of Communication; carried the despatches from the
front to Korti on several occasions, and was Staff Officer at Korti until its evacuation (Clasp).
* Captain Griesliach served in the Afghan war in i88o as Orderly Officer to Brigadier General Nuttall, Coni-
laanding Cavalry Brigade, lu the engagements on the Helmund and at Maiwand; took part in the defence of
Oandahnr and was present at the battle of Canhahar (Medal with Clasp).
* Captain Pearce served with the 2nd Battalion Manchester Regiment throughout the Egyptian war of 1S82
(Medal, and Khedive's Star).
' Captain Clowes served in the Afghan war in 1879-80, and took part in the defence of Candahar (Medal).
Liverpool Regiment.—'Lt.Colonel Woodward served in the Soudan campaign in 1885 with the Commissariat and
Transport Staff (Medal with Clasp, and Khedive's Star).
Norfolk Regiment.—1 Captain Thatcher served with the 1st Battalion Shropshire Light Infantry in the Eg^-jjtian
war of 18S2, and was present at the surrender of Kafr Dowar and Damietta (Medal, and Khedive's Star). Served
in the expedition to the Soudan in 1885 wi h the :st Battalion Shropshire Light Infantry (Clasp).
^ Lieut. Roche served in the Kew Zealand war in 1S64-66 (Medal). Served in the Egyptian war of 1882 with
<he ist Battalion of the West Kent Regiment (Medal with Clasp, and Khedive's Star); also served with the jS'ile
Kxpedtion in 1884-85 (Clasp).
Lincolnshire Relment.—' Colonel Mason served with the S^nd Regt. in suppressing the Indian mutiny in
'857-58, including the operations at Cawnpore under Windham, defeat there of the Gwalior Contingent, action of
Khankur. taking of Bareill3% subsequent operations in Rohilcund, and defence of Powayne (Medal).
^ Lord William Cecil served in the Soudan campaign in 1885 (Medal with Clasp, and Khedive's Star).
Devonshire Regiment.-i Captam Dumbreck served in the Zulu war in 1879 on Commissariat duty (Medal
with Clasp).
- Captain Keene served with the 25th King's Own Borderers in the Afghan war in 1879-80 witn the Khyber
Line Force under Lieut.General Bright (Medal). Served with the 2nd Battalion King's Own Scottish Borderers
■(vith the Suakiu Field Force in December 1888 during the investment of Siiakin, and was present in the engage¬
ment at Gemaizah (Medal with Clas])).
* Captain Evans served in the Afghan war of 1878-80 (Medal).
Sufiolk Regiment.—'Colonel Browning served with the 89th Regt. in the Crimea from 20th Aug. 1855, In-
cliiding the siege and fall of Sebastopol and attack of the Sth Sept. (Medal with Clasp, and Turkish Modal).
*ierved duringthe Indian mutiny in 1S75-58 as Staff Officer to a Field Fore in Guzerat, including the attack ou the
Taringa Hits (mentioned in despatches); acted in the same capacity to another Field Force in Aug. 1858, and
ivas present at the attack and capture of Maudeth—horse shot.
' Lieut. James served in the New Zealand war in i864-66(Medal).l
* CaptainCox served in the New Zealand wars in i85o-66 (Medal). Served in the Afghan war in 1879-So, and
took part with the expedition against the Khugianis (Medal).
Somersetshire Light Infantry.—' Lt.Colonel Hilicoat served in the Ashanti war in 1873-74, attached to the
Transport (-Medal).
* Major CJore Langton served with the Koorum Field Force in the Afghan war in 1878-79, and was present
with the ex])editiou iuto the Khost Valley and in the engagement at Mattoon; accuiupauied Sir Frederick
Roberts in the march to (Ja.ndahar, and was present at the reconnaissance of 31st August and at the battle of
Candahar (Medal with Clasp, and Bronze Decoration).
' Lt.Colonel Leir served with the Military Train, acting as Light Cavalry, in New Zealand daring the Wanganui
campaign of 1865-66 (Medal).
^ Captain West served throughout the Zulu war of 1879, ^^'^ ^^^^ present in the engagements at Zungin Nek,
Kambula Hill, and Ulundi (Medal with Clasp).
West Yorkshire Regiment.—' Colonel Meysey-Thompson served as Adjutant of the 2Dd Battalion Rifle
Brigade throughout the second i)haso of the Ashanti war in 1874, including the battle of Amoaful, battle of

East Yorkshire Regiment.—1 Colonel Grimston served with the 2nd Queen's Royals in the Kaffir war of
1851-52 (Medal); also with the expedition North of the Orange River in 1852-53.
Bedfordshire Regiment.—' Sir John Burgoyne served in the Grenadier Guards in the Crimea in 1854, and
was severely wounded at the battle of the Alma (Medal with Clasp, and Turkish Medal).

Leicestershire Regiment.—1 Lt.Culonel Pearson served with the 95th Regt. in the Indian campaign in 1S58,
including the siege assault and capture of Kotali, battle of Kota ka Serai, general action resulting in the capture
of Gwalior, siege and capture of Powrie, acted as Assistant Field Engineer, and mentioned in despatches (Medal
with Clasp).
Irish Regiment.—' Captain Duncan served in the Soudan campaign in 1SS5 with the Commissariat and Trans¬
port Staff (.Medal with Clasp, and Khedive's Star).
=' Captain Hon. E. B. L. H. Stopl'ord served with the ist Battalion Royal Irish Fusiliers in the Egyptian war of
1882, and was present at the battle of Tel-el-Kebir (Medal with Clasp, and Khedive's Star).
' Major Connellan served with the 67th Regiment in the Afghan war of 1S78-S0, and was present in the engage¬
ment at Charasial) on the 6th October 1S79,"and in the operations around Uabul in December 1879 inclndiag the
investment of Sherpore (Medal with two Clasps).

including the siege of Sebasto])ol (Medal with Clasp, and Turkish Medal).
Lancashire Fusiliers.—' Major Burr served in the Egyptian war of 1882 with the Royal Irish Regiment, and was
present al tlic battle of Tel-el-Kebir (Medal wit'u Clasp, and Ivhedive's Star).

Soots Fusiliers.-i Sir James Fergusson served with the Grenadier Guards the Eastern campaign of 1854, and
up to 4th May 1855, including the battles of Alma and Inkennan (wounded), and siege of Sebastopol (Madal with
three Clasps, anil Turkish Medal).
« Captain Toogood served in the Nile Expedition in 1834-85 with the ist Battalion of the West Kent Regiment
(Medal with Clasp, and Kho live'a Star).
" Captain IJ'Aeth served in the Boer war of 1881 and took part in the defence of Pretoria.
Cheshire Regiment,.—' Sir Henry Loch served with the 3rd Bengal Cavairy in the Sutlej campaign in 1846 and
was iireseiit at the battle of Sobraon (Medal). Was sent early in 1854 by the Foreign Office, under General Beat-
son, to the Danubian Provinces to organize the Turkish Irregular Cavalry, with rank of Lt.Colonel in the Turkish
service; crossed to the Crimea, and was invalided shortly after the battle of Alma (Turkish Medal). Attached
to Head Quarters of Coinirander iu Chief in China in 1857 and present at the operations before and
capture of Canton. Was on board the gunboat "Bustard" at the capture of the Peiho and upper forts in
:858. Was attached to the head ciuarters of Sir Hope Grant in 1860 and ]n-esent at the various operations i)revious
to and at the capture of Sinho, Tangku, and the Taku forts (Medal with three Clasps). Accompanied the
Earl of Elgin with the army on advance on Pekin, and was captured with Mr. Parkes and sent prisoner to Pekin;
on release brought home the Convention of Pekin and ratitied treaty of Tieu-tsin, and made CJi.
' Colonel Fiance Hayhurst served in the Eastern campaign in 1854-55, including the battle of the Alma and
siege of Selmstopol (.Medal with two Clasps, and Turkish Medal).
South Wales Borderers.—' Colonel Thomas served with the 2nd Dragoon Guards the Oude campaign of
1858-59, including the assault and capture of Birwah, and Trans-Gogra iiH'airs at Bungaon (Medal).
