' Sir David Russell commanded the 5th Brigade at the second relief of Lucknow—severely wounded, and par¬
ticularly mentioned in despatches as having much distinguished himself (CB.) ; commanded ist Brigade under
Outram at the repnlse of several attacks on the Alumbagh ; at the fall of Lucknow he commanded 2nd Brigade
which stormed the Imaumbarra and captured the Kaiserbagh (Medal with Clasp).
8 Quarter Master Boulger served in the Indian mutiny campaign of 1857-58 ; joined Havelock's force on its first
taking the field at Allahabad in June 1857, and vva" in the advanced party which left Cawnpore on the 30th June
under'Major Reynold, and engaged in many skirmishes while destroying all disaffected villages between Allahabad
and Futtehpore, and while keeping communications open with the river party ; afterwards present at the actions
of Puttehpore, Aouug, Pamioo Naddee, Cavvnpore. Oonao, Buseerut Gunge (both actions), Boorbceake Chowkee,
Bithoor, Mungarvvar, and Alumbaugh, and was in the storming party which crossed the bridge in the first relief of
Luckuo'w, and shot the gunner in the act of firing a 68-pounder loaded with grape, canister, stones, glass, Ac, and
he was the first man to lorce through the masked battery in front, for which he was mentioned in General ordei-s;
present with the Grenadier company of 50 men at the storming of the jail, from which the dead bodies of 380
Sepoys were afterwards removed; was a volunteer with the storming party at 3 a.m., 29th September, to blow up
the enemy's magazine, destroy their mines, and burst 4 mortars and 13 guns facing the Residency—wounded through
the left tliigh and right hand withloss of middle finger; present tliroughoutthe subsequent defence of the Residency
and stormTng of the Him Kanah—wounded (Victoria Cross, Medal with Clasp, and a year's service).
