^"7 Major A. Battye served with the ist Bengal European Fusiliers in Oude in 1858, and was present at the siege
and capture of Lucknow, and actions of Uttereah, Bhumoreghat, and Kmtoor (Medal with Clasp).
=■" Major T. Dayrell served at the siege and assault of Delhi, and was severely wounded at the assault, 14th Sep¬
tember 1857 (Medal with Clasp).
="' Major G. L. K. Hewett served throughout the defence of the Residency at Lucknow from the 30th June to
the 22nd Nov. 1857, and was slightly wounded on the 24th September; served afcerwards as Orderly Officer to Sir
J. Outram throughout the operations at the Alumbagh, including the capture of the enemy's guns and position at
Gaelic ; also present at the final siege and capture of Lucknow (Medal with two Clasps, and a year's service).
Served against the Hill Tribes on the Peshawur Frontier in 1863-64 (Medal with Clasp).
'™ Lt.ColonelW. Tweedie served throughout the Indian mutiny campaign of 1857-59, was present at the engagement
attending the disarming of the Native Troops at Benares on the 4th June 1857, and was dangerously wounded.
Volunteered for active service and was attached to the 7Sth Highlanders with Havelock's Column, and was present
at the actions of Bithoor, Mungarwar, and Alumbagh, and relief of Lucknow, subsequent defence of the Residency
until relieved by Lord Clyde, after which served at the defence of the Alnmbagh, including the repulse of the
enemy's numerous attacks; served with the 78th Highlanders throughout the operations resulting in the final storm
and capture of Lucknow, the advance through Rohilcund and recapture of Bareilly. Served on General Beatson's
Staff in the operations against and pursuit of Tantia Topee in the Mhow and Nerbudda districts (Medal with two
Clasps, and a year's service). Served in the Abyssinian campaign as Political Secretary to Lord Napier and was
present at the action of Arogee and capture of Magdnla (twice mentioned in despatches, Medal, and Brevet of Major).
'" Major G. C. Gregory served throughout the Indian mutinies of 1857-59, ind was present with the Meerul
Volunteer Horse during Aug. Sept. and Oct. 1857 in several minor afiairs in the Meerut District. Present with the
ist Beloochees in Brigadier Wetherell's Force at the assault and capture of Rampore-Kussiain Oude, in Lord
Clyde's Field Force in the Oude campaign in 1858-59, including the occi^jation of Forts Amethee and Shunkerpore,
affairs of Buxar Ghat, Forts Bujidia and Mujidia, and the Raptee (Medal). Served with the 3rd Goorkhas in the
Bhoota,n campaign in 1864-66 (wounded. Medal with Clasp).
^'2 Major F. F. J. Toke served in the Bhootan campaign of 1865-66 (Medal with Clasp).
'*3 Major C. H. Bwart served throughout the operations before Delhi in 1857, including the battle of Budleeke-
Berai, and final assault and capture of Delhi (Medal with Clasp).
'*= Major R. G. Kennedy served with the 55th Regt. on the Bhootan expedition, and was present with the storming
party at the recapture of Dewangiri in April 1865—wounded (Medal with Clasp). Served in the Abyssinian cam¬
paign as Aide de Camp to Lord Napier and was present at the action of Arogee and the capture of Magdala
(mentioned in despatches. Medal).
^^^ Lt.Colonel A. P. Palmer served throughout the Indian mutiny campaign of 1857-59. Raised a Regiment of
Sikhs 600 strong for service in Oude in March 1858. Joined Hodson's Horse at Lucknow in June 1868, and present
with it at the action of Nawabgunge, Barabunki (horse killed), and minor afi'airs in the Oude campaign until its
conclusion on the Nepaul frontier (wounded). Detached for several months in command of a Squadron, and
frequently engaged with the enemy (Medal, mentioned in despatches). Served as Adjutant of the loth Bengal
Lancers in Abyssinia—services brought to the notice of Her Majesty's Government by Lord Napier of Magdala
(Medal). Served as Aide de Camp to General Stafford in the Duflla E.xpedition of 1874-75(mentioned mdespatches).
*** Miijor A. Ollivant sei'ved during the Indian mutiny campaign of 1857-59, including a skirmish at Madrock,
action near Agra with the Ncomuch mutineers on the 5th July, battle of Agra on the loth Oct. 1857; Bundlecund
campaign in 1858-59, attack on Serowlie, and affair with Burgem Singh (Medal).
*'" Lt.Colont 1 W.F. Badgley served with the 88th Regiment during the operations at Cawnpore against the Gwalior
Contingent in December 1857; also in the Central Indian campaign under Sir Hugh Rose. Served with the 53rd
Foot during the operations in Oude from April to November 1858; and with the Oude Military Police on the Nepaul
frontier in June and .rnly 1S59 (Medal with Clasp).
^" Major F. N. M. Maynard served in the Indian Mutiny campaign of 1857-58, including the siege and capture
of Lucknow, and capture of Biswah and Rohea (Medal with Clasp).
^'2 Major B. C. Corbyn served in the Indian mutiny campaign of 1857-58, and was present at the actions of the
26th 27th 28th and 29th Nov. 1857, against the Gwalior Contingent at Cawnpore, reoccupation of Futtehghur, and
pursuitof Tantia Topee (Medal). •
'^^ Major L. Macdonald served with the 42nd Highlanders in the Indian mutiny campaign of 1857-58, and was
present at the actions of Kalee Nnddee and Shumshabad, siege and capture of Lucknovv, attack on the fort of
Rooya, and action of AUygunge (Medal and Clasp).
5'* Major W. J. Stewart served with the force at the Alumbagh under Outram from 3rd Feb. 1858 until the cap¬
ture of Lucknow (Medal with Clasp).
5'5 Major F. Coddington served in the entrenched camp at the Alumbagh under Outram from the 2nd Jan. to the
5th March 1858 ; also at the siege and capture of Lucknow (Medal with Clasp).
''^ Major M. P. Moriarty served with the 34th Foot at the actions at Cawnpore, on 26th 27th and 28th of
November 1857 under Major General Windham ; at the attack and capture of Fort Meaugunge on 24th Feb. under
Sir Hope Grant; at several minor engagements near Bunnee Bridge in Oude ; present during the whole of the
operations before Lucknow, and at the taking of the city. Served with the 93rd Highlanders at the attack on Fort
Rooya, and in action at Allygunge in Oude ; likewise at the action anil capture of Bareilly in May 1858. Served
with the 66th or Goorkha Light Infantry at the actions at Pusgaon, Russooljiore, and Bishwah (Medal with Clasp).
5" Major H. C. A. Szczepanski served during the Indian mutiny campaign of 1857-58, including the actions of
the 25th, 26th, and 27th November 1S57, and subsequent operations at Cawnpore, action of Kalee Nuddee, and pur¬
suit of the rebels in Bundlecund (Medal).
''* Major S. Beckett served with the 1st Sikh Infantry in the Oude campaign of 1858-59, and was present at the
passage of the Gogra, skirmish near Bunkussia Fort, and action near the Jerwah Pass—dangerously wounded in
the abdomen, and severely in the left arm (Medal).
''■*'' Major T. D. Madden served with the 2nd Battalion Rifle Brigade in the Indian mutiny campaign of 1857-59,
and was present in the engagements of the 26th 27th and 2Sth Nov. (wounded) and 6th December 1857 at Cawn¬
pore, siege and capture of Lucknow, the whole of the campaigns in Oude and Trans-Gogra up to 27th June 185c,
including the actions ofKoorsee, Baree, Nuggur, Nawabgunge, Sultanpore, Fort of Ameethie, Hyderghur, Chur-
dar. and Sitka Ghat (Medal with Clasp).
"*'Major B. G. Wace served in the Indian mutiny campaign of 1857-59, including the actions of the 26th 27th
and 29th November, and 6th December 1857 at Cawnpore, taking of Fort Rooya, action of Allygunge, taking of Bareillj',
actions of Pusgaon and Russoolporc, antl capture of Fort Mittowlee (Medal with Clasp).
*"' Major H. W. Webster served in the Indian mutiny campaign of 1857-58, including the actions of Nusrutpore,
Chanda, Ummeerpore, and Sultanpore, siege and capture of Lucknow (Medal with Clasp), Served the Bhootan
campaign in 1864-65, including the taking of Dalimkote and Chamoorohee, and retaking of theBala Pass stockades
(Medal with Clasp).
^* Major H. G. Watcrfield served with the 82nd Foot in the Indian mutiny campaign of 1857-58, including the
operations at Cawnpore in November under General Windham, and defeat there of the Gwalior Contingent on the
6th December 1857 ; actions of Kalee Nuddee and Khankur, defence of the Jail at Shahjehanpore and operations
subsequent to its relief, capture of the forts of Bunnai, Mahomdee, and Shahabad, and action of Bunkagaon.
Served with the 66th Goorkhas in the Oude campaign of 1858-59, including the actions of Pusgaon and Russoolpore,
attack and capture of the fort of Mittowlee, and action of Biswa (Medal).
*•' Major C. J. Durand served with the 42nd Highlanders in the Indian mutiny campaign of 1857-59, and was
present at the defeat of the Gwalior Contingent at Cawnpore, actions of Seria Ghat, Kalee IJuddee, and Shumsha¬
bad, siege and capture of Lucknow, including the storming of the Martiniere, Banks' Bungalow, and the Begimi's
Kotee; also i)reseut at the attack on the fort of Rooya, action of Allygunge, and capture of Bareilly (Medal with
Clasp). Served with the 21st Bengal Native Infantry during the rebellion in the Cossyah and Jynteeah Hills
1862-63, and was present at the storming and capture of the Surteung stockades (twice mentioned in despatches).
Served with the 30th Bengal Native Infantry during the Bhootan campaign of 1864-65, and present at the recap¬
ture of the stockades at the Pala Pass, Nadoo, and other operations (Medal with Clasp).
