"•^ Lt.Colonel A. J. Howes served with the Kurnool Movable Column and Saugor Field Division, and was present
at the storming of the fortof Ruteea 13th November 1858 (Medal).
260 Lt.Colonel E. Venour served as a volunteer with the loth Foot against the Dinapore mutineers atArrah in
1857 and was severely wounded (Medal). Served with the right column Doar Field B''orce in 1865-66.
2^1 Major A. P. Currie served throughout the Persian campaign of 1856-57, including the assault and capture
of the fort of Reshire, surrender of Bushire, at Borazjoon, and action of Khooshab (Medal with Clasp). Served Id
the Indian mutiny campaign, including the pursuit of Tautia Topee ar(,d the Gwalior rebels in 1858-59.
^^'t Lt.Colonel H. R. Wintle served in the Indian mutiny campaign (Medal).
262 Lt.Colonel G. W. Holds worth served throughout the Indian mutiny campaign in 1857-58, and was present at
the action near Agra on the 5th July against the Neemuch mutineers, attack on the village of Chnlhaslee (severely
wounded by an explosion), the battle of Agra on the loth October; also with the column under Colonel Cotton at
Futtehpore Sirkee in October 1857, and with the Agra Column towards Gwalior in June 1858 (Medal).
263 Lt.Colonel W. F. Bartleman served with the 13th Light Infantry in the Indian mutiny campaign in 1858, and
was present at the actions of Almorah on the 17th and 25th April, and at the storming and capture of the fort
of Nuggur (Medal). Served during a part of the Cossiah rebellion, and commanded a Company of the 43rd Bengal
N. I. at the attack and capture of the stockaded village of Moonsowpoonje in the Jynteah Hills on the 22nd March 1862.
2" Lt.Colonel J. H. \V. Osborne served with the 73rd Foot in Brigadier Rowcroft's Column during the campaign in
the Terai, from the 4th November 1858 to July 1859, and was present at the attack by the rebels on the column of
Major Ross, and in some minor affairs (Medal).
265 Lt.Colonel J. Johnstone served with the Trans-Gogra Field Force under Brigadier Rowcroft in 1858-59 (Medal).
266 Major H. S. Daniell served with the Persian Expeditionary Force in 1857 (Medal with Clasp). Served with
the Central India Field Force under Sir Hugh Rose in 1858, and was present at the siege and capture of Ratghur,
action at Barodea (wounded), relief of Saugor, action at Gurrakhota, siege and capture of Jhansi, battle of
Koonch, actions before and taking of Calpee, actions at Morar and Gwalior, battle of Jowra Alipore. Served in
the Jhansi and Jaloun Districts in 1858, and was present at the action at Mow Mahoni. Served as Staff Officer to
the force employed in the operations in the Chundairi District in 1859 (Medal with Clasp).
•266 Lt.Colonel W. S. A. Lockhart served with the 5th Fusiliers in Oudein Dec.iS58 and January 1859. Served with
the loth Bengal Lancers at Hoti Murdan and Shubkudder during the Umbeyla campaign in 1863-64 (Medal with
Clasp). Served the Bhootan campaign of 1864-66 as Adjutant 14th Bengal Lancers. Served as Aide de Camp
to Brigadier General Merewether commanding Cavalry Brigade in the Abyssinian campaign, and was present at
Arogee and the fall of Magdala (Medal). Served as D.A.Q.M. General 2nd Brigade with Hazara Field Force in
the Black Mountain Expedition (mentioned in despatches. Clasp). Has the Royal Himiane Society's bronze Medal
for saving the life of a British soldier's wife.
269 Lt.Colonel W. Campbell was jiresent at the outbreak of the mutiny at Lucknow on the 30th May 1857,and with
the force that drove the rebels out of the station the next day. Serv'e<l throughout the defence of the Residency from
the 30th June to the 22nd Novemlier, and as a volunteer with the 78th Highlanders accompanied the force under
Colonel Napier (Lord Napier of Magdala) that went out to the Moot^e Manzil to bring in the sick, wounded,
heavy guns, and ammunition left behind by the relieving force under Havelock, and was sent to report at night
that more doolies were required for the sick and woimded; was afterwards present at the biittle of Cawnpore and
defeat of the Gwalior Contingent (Medal with Clasp, and a year's service). Served the campaign of 1862-63 in the
Jynteah Hills, and saved the records and treasure on the Cutcherry being destroyed by lightning.
2"'> Major H. C. Kemble was present at the relief of Azimghur in April 1858 (Medal).
2"' Lt.Colonel R. A. C. Hunt served with his regiment against the Taepings near Shanghai, and was present at the
storming and capture of the entrenched camp at Wang-kaza 4th April 1862, of the town of Tseerpoo 17th April,
at Nazean 27th and 29th April, at the storming of Kahding 1st May, of Tsing-poo 12th May, and at the storming
and recapture of Kahding on the 4th October 1862.
2'3 Lt.Colonel R. M. Chambers served with his regiment against the Taepings near Shanghai, and was present at
the storming and capture of the entrenched camp at Wang-kaza 4th April 1862, and of the town of Tseerpoo 17th
April, at Nazean 27th and 29th April 1862, at the storming of the town of Tsingpoo 12th May, and with the garrison
defending Kahding in May 1862.
-'* Major G. E. Erskine served with the Rajpootana Field Force under Brigadier M. W. Smith in 1858-59.
2"6 Major W. W. Hooper served with a squadron of his regiment on fleld service in the Deccan from the i6th
November 185S to the 5th April 1859, including the march of fifty miles without a halt on the 28th February in pur¬
suit of and defeat of the enemy and taking several prisoners (Medal).
2'7 Major J. G. D. Walker served with his regiment in the campaign in Bundlecund under Brigadier Wheler
in 1859.
2"8 Lt.Colonel J. May served with the Volunteer Cavalry at Lucknow, and was present at the action of Chinhut
30th June T857, also throughout the defence of the Residency acting as a Subaltern of Artillery and subse(iuently
as Assistant Field Engineer. Served afterwards with the force at the Alumbach and was present in the various
actions (wounded), and accompanied Lord Clyde's Force at the final capture of Lucknow (Medal with two Clasps).
