' Lt.Colonel Macpherson served the campaign of 1857-58 with the 42nd Highlanders against the mutineers in
India, including the action at Khodagunj, siege and fall of Lucknow and assault of the Martiniere and Banks'
Bungalow, attack on Rooyah, action at Aliygunge, attack aud capture of the Fort of Bareilly (Medal with Clasp).
Embarked for the Gold Coast with the 42nd Highlanders. Served in the second phase of the Ashanti war in 2874,
and commanded the Regiment at the Ijattlo of Amoaful. Sir Archibald Alison in his report to Sir Garnet Wolseky
writes:—" I have particularly to bring to your notice the excellent manner in which the attack was conducted by
Major Macpherson and the gallantry which he disjilayed. Though wounded in three places, he jjositively refused
to quit the field until the village of Amoaful, which I had directed him to attack, was secured" (mentioned in
despatches. Brevet of Lt.Colonel, CB., Medal with Clasp).
'" Major Green seired with the 42nd Highlanders in the Crimean cimpaign from the 14th July 1S55, including
the siege and fall of Sebastopol (Medal with C'lasp, and 'Turkish Medal). Served also the campaign of 1857-58 against
the mutineers in India, including the actions of Kudygunge and Shumsabad, siege and fall of Lucknow, and assault
of the Martiniere and Banks' Bungalow, attack on the Fort of Rooyah, action at AUygnnge, attack and capture of
Bareilly, Sisseaghat (mentioned in despatches. Medal with Clasp). Embarked with the 42nd Highlanders for the
Gold Coast and was there placed in command of 100 men at Yancoomassie Fanti (.\shanti Medal).
~ Major Bayly served with the 42nd Highlanders in the campaign of 1857-58 against the mutineers in India,
including the actions at Cawnpore (6th Dec. 1S57), Seraighat, Kudj-gunge, and Shumsabad, siege and fall of
Lucknow and assault of the Martiniere and Banks' Bungalow, attack on the Fort of Rooyah, action of Aliygunge,
attack and captiu'e of Bareilly and action at Sisseaghat—wounded (Medal with Clasp). Embarked for the Gold
Coast with the 42nd Highl.anders. Served in the second phase of the Ashanti war in 1874, and was present at the
battle of Ordahsu and capture of Coomassie (Brevet of Major, Medal with Clasp).
8 Major Furse served with the 42nd Highlanders in the campaign of 1857-58 against the mutineers in India, in
eluding the actions at Kudj'gunge and Shumsabad, siege and fall of Lucknow and assault of the Martiniere and
Banks' Bungalow, attack on the Fort of Rooyah, action at Aliygunge, attack and capture of Bareilly (Medal with
Clasp). Accompanied Sir Garnet Wolseley to the Gold Coast in Sepjtcmber 1S73 on special service, and served
throughout the Ashanti war of 1S73-74. Employed at first on a recruiting mission in the settlements of the
Gambia. Afterwards in charge of the advanced party of Wood's Regiment in the reconnaissance in force of the
27th November, and subsequent advance to the Prah.' Commanded the Head Quarters of Wood's Regiment at
the battle of Anioaful, and was present at the battle of Ordahsu and capture of Coomassie (mentioned in despatches.
Brevet of Major, Medal with Clasp).
' Captain Walker served with the 40th Regiment in New Zealand in Taranaki and the Waikato during the war in
1S64-65 (Medal).
" Captain Kidston served with the 42nd Highlanders throughout the second phase of the Ashanti war in 1S74,
and was present at the battle of Amoafnl, capture and destruction of the town of Becquah, battle of Ordahsu and
capture of Coomassie (mentioned in despatches. Medal with Clasp).
'^ Captain Creagh served with the 42nd Highlanders throughout the second phase of the Ashanti war in 1874, and
was present at the battle of Amoaful (wounded slightly), capture and destruction of the town of Becquah, battle of
Ordahsu and capture of Coomassie (Medal with Clasp).
