1 Lt. General Campbell commanded the 52nd Light Infantry at the defeat of the Sealkote mutineers on the
banks of the Ravee on the 12th and i6th July, 1857, and commanded the third Column at the assault of Delhi (Medal
with Clasp).
^ Colonel Appleyard served with the 80th Regiment in the Burmese war of 1852 (Medal with Clasp for Pegu), and
was pr(Kont at the capture of Martaban. operations before Rangoon on the 12th, 13th, and 14th April, and captui'e of
the great Dagon Pagoda with the storming party; also at the capture of Prome. Served the Eastern campaign of
1854-55 with the Royal Fusiliers, and Was present at the battles of Alma (wounded) and Inkerman, and siege of
Sebastopol, including sorties on jth April and gth May, defence of the Quarries 7th June, and assault on the Redan
18th June—wounded (Medal with Clasps, Brevet of Major, Knight of the Legion of Honor, 5th Class of the Medjidie,
and Turkisti Medal).
* Captain Smith served with the 98th Regiment in the Peshawur Expeditionary Force on the Euzofzie Frontier
under Sir Sidney Cotton in April and May 1858, and at the affair with the Hindostanee fanatics on the Heights of
Sittana on the 4th May (Modal with Clasp).
^ Quarter Master Hawkins served the Punjaub campaign of 1848-49, including the battles of Sadoolapore, Chillian-
wallah, and Goojerat (Medal with two Clasps).
