"5* Captain G. Tyndall served with the Madras Rifles 1857-58 in quelling the mutiny in India, and with the force
under Major General Whitlock, .in 1859 (Medal).
255 Captain E. Faunce was employed in the suppression of the mutiny in India in 1857-58, and accompanied the
detachment from the Dorundah Field Force under the command of Major G. G. Macdonnell to act against the insur¬
gents of Palimow; was present with the force for restoring and maintaining peace in the Chota Nagpore district in
1857-58 (Medal).
*56 Captain T. K. Guthrie served in the N. AV. Provinces of Bengal, and Central India from October 1857 to Janu¬
ary i860, with the Madras Riflee ; present at the taking of Kotte and Shergundy, and affair in the bed of the
Jumna near the latter town; at the surprise and action of Gurrah, the reoccupation of Hummerpoor and subse¬
quent jmrsuit of lebels across the Doalt; present at a.n attack on rebels at Entowa, in April 1859, when they were
defeated and lost their camp and baggii^re; employed in several minor expeditions, and in guarding the Kallinger
and Doorwa passes in Bundlecund (Medal with Clasp).
="' Captain C. M'luroy served in the Indian mutiny campaign, and was present with General Whitlock's Force at
the surrender of Kirwee. Joined the Sikh Mounted Police in Aug. 1858, and was present in the action at Sahao
(mentioned in despatches). Commanded in Cavalry actions of Maharajpore, Jaccoli, and Mow Mahori. Com¬
manded escort to the guns during the action at Girwassah (mentioned several times in despatches. Medal with
Clasp). Employed in disarming the Banda district in 1859-60. Commanded a Division of the Transport Train
in the Abyssinian campaign (thanked in despatches for the " extent and value of his assistance," Medal).
"58 Captain T. H. B. Brooke served with the expedition to China from 24th February 1857 to 30th January 1859.
'^'> Captain J. MacD. Smith served with the expedition to China from 24th February 1857 to 27th December 1859.
'"• Captain G. B. Farrington was present at the capture of Copul on ist June 185S.
2*1 Captain W. Chisholm was actively employed during the mutiny against the insurgents in the Sumbulpore
district in 1857 and 1858.
'"^ Captain A. Wingtield was present at the capture of Shorapore on the 8th February 1858.
'•^^^ Ca})tiiiu H. A. T. Nepean was actively employed during the mutiny against the insurgents in the Sumbulpore
district in 1857-58.
'^ Captain C. A. Liardet accompanied the small force from Quilon to Cochin in Jan. 1857 to aid the Civil Power.
2^ Captain E. ]i. Armstrong employed on field service in the Saugor and Norbudda Territories in the suppression
of the Indian mutiny from fth February 1858, and was present at the battle of Banda (Medal).
*^ Captain H. C. Onslow served in the North Canara campaign from March to December 1858, and was present
in a skirmish with the enemy and jiiirsuits after the rebels.
28" Captain D. McNeill served in the suppression of the mutiny at Seetabuldee in June and July 1857, and with
the Kamptee flying column from 9th November 1858 to 26th January 1859; served also with the expeditiou to the
Puchmurree Hills, and was present at the capture of Hurrakote in November 1859.
"^ Captain T. Lavie served with the Madras Rifles in 1857-59 in quelling the mutiny in Bengal, and was present
with the detachment under Captain Young in the pursuit of a body of Sepoy rebels in Behar in Jime 1858.
^^ Captain A. M. Lys was employed in suppressing the insurrection in the Pariah Kimedy district in 1S56 and
1857.
2™ Captain E. A. Wood was present with the North Canara Field Force in 1859.
271 Captain H. T. Harris was present against a body of Rohillas on the banks of the Kishna river in Feb. 1859.
27* Captain R. B. Cummins served with the Land Transport Train in the Ab.yssinian Expedition in 186S (Medal).
273 Captain W. H. Hodges served with the Saugor Field Division in 1857-58 in quelling the mutiny in India, and
was present at the relief of Kirwee, and storming of the heights of Punwarree. Served with the Saugor Field
Division in 1859, and was present in command of a detachment of his regiment at the action of PunwaiTee ; served
with Colonel Nott's Field Force in pursuit of Furoze Shah and other rebels, and with Colonel Primrose's Column ;
present at Gopaulpore and other minor affairs (Medal).
27* Captain T. Higginson served on the North-West Frontier of India in the expedition against the Bezotee Tribe
in Feb. 1869, and was mentioned in despatches and thanked by the Government of India. Served also with the
Meranzie Valley Field Force in April 1869.
275 Captain A. Cook was employed with a detachment of the 32nd Madras Native Infantry that formed part of the
oree in the field to intercept the rebils under Tautia Topee from 9th November 1858; engaged m the jrarsuit of
nsurgent Shans on the north-eastern frontier Teiiasserim and Martaban Provinces during May i860.
278 Captain J. B. Leggett was employed with the Bellary Movable Column in 1858.
275 Captain C. Hayter was employed in 1857-59 in Bengal, and served with the Shahabad Field Force under
Brigadier Douglas, and accompanied Captain Place with a party of one subadar and 25 sepoys, and by stratagem
surprised the rebel post of Maindoorah and captured 26 boats 7th August 185S ; present at the taking of Suhar on
the left bank of the Soane and destruction of the rebel boats on the 21st August, again at the destruction of that town
on the 20th September, at the taking of Noorpoor, Susragah, and Turcole, when those towns and several boat
were destroyed (Medal). Served with the eastern Bhootan Field Force in 1865-66 (Medal with Clasp). Also against
the Naga Hill Tribes in 1867.
281 Captain L. B. Bance was present at the capture of Copul on the ist June 1858. Served with the Bellary Mov¬
able Column under Brigadier Spottiswoode in 1858.
281 Captain G. C. Bird served in the North Canara campaign from March to December 1858, and was present in
various skirmishes and pursuits.
282 Captain E. W. Shaw was employed in the suppression of the Indian mutiny in 1857-59, and was present at
Bunnee with force forming rear guard of Commander in Chief' s Army during the capture of Lucknow; also present
at the affair of Dobriah and commanded a detachment of his regiment at Hurryan on the 29th August 1858, also at
Doomeragunge on 26th November 1858, lyjder Brigadier Rowcroft, also at Burreeah on the 3rd December 1858 j
present at the battle of Toolsepore (MedalJ.
283 Captain J. B. Taylor served with field detachments on the Hyderabad Frontier from i6th November 1858 to
12th March 1859.
28* Captain J. A. Richmond served with field detachments on the Hyderabad Frontier from 16th November 1858 to
12th March 1859.
285 Captain C. A. Porteous was employed in the suppression of the Indian mutiny in 1857-59, and was present at
Kanta, iit Bunnee with the force forming the rear guard of the Commander in Cliief's Army during the capture of
Lucknow, present at Bansee on the 22nd and 28th September 1858, at Chittrah on the 30th September 1858, at two
other aflairs on the 9th and 20th October 1858, and at Doomeragunge on the 13th September 1858 ; served with the
force uuder Major General Whitlock in Bundlecund, and present with the detachment which proceeded in March
1859 under Brigadier Fadd.y against Rumnust Singh (Medal with two Clasps).
2*^ Captain R. D. Thorpe was employed in the suppression of the Indian mutiny in 1857-59, and was present at
Bunnee Bridge with the rear guard during the capture of Lucknow by Lord Clyde; was engaged in pursuit of
rebels under Bundoo Sing in Sept. and Nov. 1858 ; present at the action of Toolseepore ; served with General Whit¬
lock's Force in Bundleeund, and was present with the detachment which proceeded against Runmut Singh in
March 1859 (Medal with two Clasps).
287 Captain A. Godfrey was present with his regiment on field service in 1857 and 1858.
288 Captain C. J. O. Chambers served in the suppression of the mutiny in Bengal with Major General Whitlock's
Force 1858, was present with the reserve during the action at Girwassah 16th December 1858. Engaged with the
rebels in tha Ballaput Jungle 26th August 1859 (Medal).
289 Captain M. Furlong was present at the capture of Copul on the 1st June 1858. With the Bellary Field Force
under Colonel Spottiswoode.
29" Captain E. G. V. Holloway served with the Corps ol Observation under Sir James Outram at the Alumbagh
from 2sth February till April 1858, and was present at the siege and capture of Lucknow (Medal with Clasp).
291 Captain W. O. Foord was employed with a field ;crculrom 5th March 1858, and engni;edwith a small party of
the rebels on the 2nd October 1858.
292 Captain C. J. O. Fitzgerald was employed on field service in the Raichore Doab from 4th Juue to 5th August
1858.
~293 Captain H. F. H. SeweU was actively employed during the mutiny against the insurgents in the Sumlu'poor
districts in 1858.
