tember 1857 till November 1859; present at the taking of Kotte on the Jumma and destruction of other rebel tovnis;
taking of Shergundy and affair in the bed of the Jamma; was also present at the surprise and action of Gurrah,
and the reoccupation of Humeerpore and subsequent pursuit of rebels across the Doab ; was present at the
attack and route of rebels under Munmust Sing on 4th March 1859; employed on several dours from Nagode and
in guarding the Doorwah and Kallinger Passes until November 1859 (Medal with Clasp for Central India).
5* Major R. H. Cutiliffe was employed in suppressing the insurrection in the Pariah Kimedy district in 1856-57.
^' Major H. Watson was employed on field service with the Kamptee Movable Column in the Saugor and Ner-
budda Territories and Raepore district from 17th July 1857 to 30th April 1858, and was present at the afTairs at
Balakote, Nursinghur, Patun, Junapanea, and Khonee Pass, and the engagement at Kuttengee—slightly wounded
(Medal).
''^ Major R. S. Gray served in Bengal with the Madras Rifles from 5th September 1857 to 2nd April i860, and
was present at the relief of Azimghur and subsequently in General Lugard's Force at Jugdespore (Medal).
^"^ Major X. Swanston commanded the K Company Sappers and Miners in the North China Expedition in i860,
and was present at the actions of Sinho and Tangkoo, the capture of the Takoo Forts, and at Pekin from 6th to
26th October (Medal with two Clasps).
"2' Major E. D. Gompertz served in the Burmese war in 1852-53 (Medal with Clasp for Pegu). Also with the Saugor
Field Division in quelling the mutiny in India in 1857-58, and was present at the aflfair of Kobrai, battle of Bands,
action near Chitero Role, action near Punghauttee, and action at Kurrereah; served in Bundlecund in 1859.
"^ Major G. J. P. Begbie served in the Burmese war in 1852-53 and was present at the capture of Prome 9th
October 1852, and at the night attack on Prome by the Burmese on the 8th December 1852 (Medal with Clasp for
Pegu).
^ Major W. Robertson served during the Burmese war in 1852-53, and was present with the Martaban
Column on its advance to Tonghoo; also at the attack upon Kyouk Douay, and other affairs during the march
(Medal with Clasp for Pegu). Commandeda detachment during the disturbances in Kimedy in 1856. Served in
Bengal with Madras Rifles during the mutinies in 1857-59 (Medal).
"'^ Major R. A. Walters served with the Kumool Movable Column and Saugor Field Division, and wag present at
a skirmish with the rebels at Seehora on the and March 1858—severe wound by a musket-ball on the thigh (Medal
with Clasp).
'^ Major H. St. M. Wynch was employed in suppressing the insurrection in the Pariah Kimedy district in 1856
and 1857. Served against the HUl Tribes in the Rajahmundry district in September and October 1857, and received
a contuBion from a matchlock-ball. Employed with the Sappers in 1859 in quelling the rebellion in Bengal
(Medal).
2*1 Major Way served in the 35th Madras Native Infantry in the Burmese war in 1852-53, and was present at the
capture of Prome (Medal with Clasp for Pegu).
"3' Captain Caulfeild served in the 35th Madras Native Infantry in the North Canara campaign, from March to
Dec. 1858, and was present in various skirmishes with the rebels.
^' Captain F. H. Thompson served with the Saugor Field Force in 1858, and was present at the battle of Banda,
relief of Kirwee, and storming the Heights of Punwaree (Medal).
«" Captain A. A. .Johnson served in the M»lwa campaign, and the campaign in Central India, and was present at
the capture of Peepliah, cavalry action at Rawul, battles of Mundisore and Gorora, affair at Barab near Saugor,
battle of Midnapoor, capture of the fort of Talbehut, siege of Jhanai 21st of March to 7th April 1858, battle of the
Betwa, affair at Kotah, battles of Koouch and Golumbee, taking of Calpee, battle of Morar, and capture of Gwalior;
accompanied the field force which proceeded against Tantia Topee and was present in the action against a large
body of Rohillas at Chichmunba on 15th January 1859 (Medal with Clasp).
^* Captain J. D. W. Sewell served with the expedition to China in 1857.
'"^ Captain B. R. C. Bradford served with the 14th Light Dragoons in the Persian campaign from 21st of February
till 8th June IS57 ; served in the Jubbulpore district during 1857, and afterwards in the North-Western Provinces
in 1858—vrith General Michel's Force in Mayne's Horse against Tantia Topee in 1858; present at the general
action of Scindwha and the action and pursuit at Karai. Served with General Napier's Columns in Mayne's Horse
from December 1858 to September 1859, and was present in several actions with the enemy (twice thanked in
despatches. Medal).
23« Captain T. Weldon was employed on field service in the Raichore Doab from 4th June to 5th August 1858.
"7 Captain T. Obbard served during the campaign in Bengal, and was present at the engagement of SeerowUe,
at the action of Ghurra, the reoccupation of Hummeerpore, and at the engagement and destruction of Lallpore
(Medal).
*^ Captain R. A. Cole was employed in suppressing the insurrection in the Pariah Kimedy district in 1856 and
1857.
»« Major T. P. F. Tytler served during the campaign in Bengal from 8th September 1857 to 6th May 1858
2« Captain A. G. Murray served with a field detachment on the Hyderabad Frontier from i6th November 1858 to
20th March 1859. ^
"1 Major A. T. Cox served in the Burmese war in 1852-53 (Medal, with Clasp, for Pegu); commanded two com¬
panies during the greater part of the North Canara campaign, which extended from March to December 1858 and
was present in one skirmish and various pursuits. '
»*» Major S. H. Williams accompanied ■ the small force from Quilon to Cochin in January 1857 to aid the Civil
Power. '
*« Major J. H. E. Johnson served with the 26th Madras Native Infantry at Moulmein during the Burmese war
from April to June 1852 (Medal with Clasp for Pegu). '
2" Captain P. Burgess was employed on field service with the Kamptee Movable Column in the Saueor and
Nerbudda Territories and Raepore district from 19th November 1857 to 30th April 1858, and was nresent at the
affairs of Koogaum, Neemkheria, andDungaum (Medal).
2« Captain C. H. Plowden served with Major General \\Tiitlock's Force during the suppression of the mutiny in
Bengal m 1858-59, was present at the surrender of the rebel NaiTain Rao of Karwee 6th June 1858 and in action at
Girwassah on the banks of the Scinde river i6th December 1858 (Medal).
2*« Captain E. S. Berkeley was present with the Cavalry portion of the force under Lt.Colonel Brice at the attack
on the Residency of Hyderabad on 17th July 1857.
"" Captain G. Murray served with the Military Train throughout the expedition in North China from 25th April
to 14th December i860, and was present at the attack on the entrenched camp in rear of the Taku forts and at
thesurrender of Pekin (Medal with two Clasps). =, ..in^ a,u
2« Captain N. D. Robertson served in the suppression of the mutiny in Bengal with Major General Whitlock's
Force m 1858—59.
3« Captain W. Stoddard was employed on field service in the Saugor and Nerbudda Territories in the sunoression
of the Indian mutiny from 9th February 1858. a^ ^^
250 Captain W. S. Bailey served in the suppression of the mutiny in Bengal in 1857 ; commanded a detachment
against the rebels at Allahabad (wounded on board the Berhampoofer steamer) under Major Spun^in which
covered the fl.niik of Ilavelock's Column from Allahabad to Cawnpore; present with Havelock's Force at "the actions
of Aounge, Busseerutguuge (ist a,nd 2nd), Boorjeakee Chowkee, and Bithoor; crossed into Oudo on 19th September
and present at the actions of Mungawar and Alumbagh, and the entry into Lucknow on the "sth September—
severely wounded at the storming of the Char Bagh bridge on that day; besieged in the Residency till 22nd Novem¬
ber 1857 (Medal with Clasp, anda year's service).
251 Captain Galibett served withBrigadier Smith's pursuing Column from December iS^8 to April i8qo and was
