•" Captain J. H. W. Osbome served with the 73rd Foot in Brigadier Rowcroft's Column during the campaign in
the Terai, from the 4th November 1858 to July 1859, and was present at the attack by the rebels on the column of
Major Ross, and in some minor affairs (Medal).
'" Captain J. Johnstone served with the Trans-Gogra Field Force under Brigadier Rowcroft in 1858-59 (Medal).
'^' CaptainH. C.GardenservedwiththeBrigade under General Franks inOude 1111857-58; and with threeCompanies
of the 97th Foot in Bundlecund in 1859 (Medal). Served with the 23rd Bengal N.I. during the Bonair campaign of
1863 ; was present in separate command of two Companies of this Regiment at the actions of the Conical Hill and
laloo ; taking and burning of Umbeylah, and was also present with the whole regiment at the severe hand-to-
hand conflict with and total defeat of the Affghans and fanatics at the Bonair Pass (Medal wi.h Clasp). Served as
Commandant of the Corps of Sebundy Sappers during the Bhootan campaign under Major Genor.il Fraser Tytler
(Clasp).
'^ Captain G. Pirrie served in the Indian mutiny campaign in 1857-59.
""'f Captain H. G. De L. Groves served in the Nagpore Provinos to intercept the rebels under Tantia Topee, from
gth November 1858 to the 26th January 1859 ; also with the column under Sir Hugh Rose during Mnroh 1859.
^^ Captain E. B. Cox served with the 90th Light Infantry in the campaign in Oude in 1858-59, and was present
at the action of Dov.-sa (Medal).
^"^ Captain W. Campbell was present at the outbreak of the mutiny at Lucknow on the 30th May 1857, and with
the force that drove the rebels out of the station the next day. Served throughout the defence of the Residency from
the 30th June to the 22n(l November, and as a volunteer with the 78th Highlanders accompanied the force under
Colonel Napier (Lord Napier of Magdala) that went out to the Mootee Manzil to bring in the sick, wounded,
heavy guns, and ammunition left behind l)y the relieving force under Havelock, and was sent to report at night
that more doolies were required for the sick and wounded; was afterwards present at the battle of Cawnpore and
defeat of the Gwalior Contingent (Medal with Clasp, and a year's service). Served the campaign of 1862-63 in the
Jfynteah Hills, and saved the records and treasure on the Catcherry being destroyed by lightning.
^"•^ Captain H. C. Kemble was present at the relief of Azimghur in April 1858 (Medal).
-"' Captain R. A. C. Hunt served with his regiment against the Taepings near Shanghai, and was present at the
storming and capture of tie entrenched camp at Wang-kaza 4th April 1862, of the town of Tseerpoo 17th April,
at Nazean 27th and 29th April, at the storming of Kahding ist May, of Tsing-poo 12th May, and at the storming
and recapture of Kahding on the 4th October 1862.
^^ Captain E. F. K. Fortescue served with the 6th Foot in the operation on the Grand Trunk Road, and with
the ist Bengal Fusiliers in someof the operations in Oude in 1858-59 (Medal).
2"3 Captain R. M. Chambers served with his regiment against the Taepings near Shanghai, and was present at
the storming and capture of the entrenched camp at "Wang-kaza 4th April 1862, and of the town of Tseerpoo 17th
April, at Nazean 27th and 29th April 1862, at the storming of the town of Tsingpoo 12th May, and with the garrison
defending Kahding in May 1862.
"'* Captain G. E. Erskine served with the Rajpootan a Field Force under Brigadier M. W. Smith in 1858-59.
*^' Captain H. W. Bird served during the suppression of th"! mutiny in Bengal from July to December 1858, and
was present at the action of Toolsepore; was also present in the campaign in Bundlecund under Brigadier
Wheler in 1859 (Medal).
''" Captain W. W. Hooper served with a squadron of his regiment on field service in the Deccan from the 16th
November 1858 to the 5th April 1859, including the march of fifty miles without a halt on the 28th February in pur¬
suit of and defeat of the enemy and taking several prisoners (Medal).
'■'^^ Captain J. G. D. Walker served with his regiment in the campaign in Buudlecund under Brigadier Wheler
in 1859.
*"' Captain J. May served with the Volunteer Cavalry at Lucknow, and was present at the action of Chinhnt
30th June 1857, also throughout the defence of the Residency acting as a Subaltern of Artillery and sulisequently
as Assistant Field Engineer. Served afterwards with the force at the Alumbagh and was present in the various
actions (wounded), and accompanied Lord Clyde's Force at the final capture of Lucknow (Medal with two Clasps).
