enter; present at the atfairs of the 18th and 23rd September, and the surrender of Pekin (twice mentioned in despatches.
Medal with two Clasps, and Brevet ef Major). Commanded the 10th Company Royal Engineers throughout ihe Abys¬
sinian Campaign and was present at the aciion of Arogei-, and Storming of the fortress of Magdalla—wounded in the

90 Major Brooke served in the Maori war of 18C3-fi4 in New Zealand under General Cameron, and was wounded in the
action at Rangariri (mentioned in despatch. Brevet of Major).
91 Major Harrison served during the Indian Mutiny of 1857-59, and was present at attacks on the Alumbagh under
Outram ; at the siege and capture of Lucknow ; throughout the Rohilcund campaign, including affairs at Fort Boolah,
Alleegunge. and H cilly.; through the Oude campaign of 1058-59, including the afl'air at Buxarghat ; and as acting Adjutant
to the Commanding Royal Eimineer in India during the Trans-Gogra campaign, including affairs at Burgudiah, Fort Mudjidea,
and Bankee (Medal with Clasp). Served during the China war of 1860, and was present at the affairs of Sinho and Tangku,
and siege and capture of the Taku forts. Was attached to the Q. M. General's Staff during the advance on and surrender of
Pekin, and present at the affairs of Senho and Uleangho on the 18th and 23rd September (mentioned in despatches. Medal with
two Clasps).
92 Captain Courtney served with the Expeditionary force in China in 1858-fi2, and was present at the action of Sheksing
with the Kwantung rebels on 8th Jan. 1850. Accompanied the Naval forces under Sir Michael Seymour to the Peiho river
in May 1858, and was engaged at the demolition of the foits at its mouth. Served throughout the campaign of 1860 in North
China as Acting Adjutant to the combined force of Royal Engineers and Madras Sappers, and was present at the actions
of Sinho and Tangku, siege and capture of the Taku Forta (mentioned in despatches), and surrender of Pekin (Medal with
two Clasps).
93 Captain Newsome served with the Army in Turkey and the Crimea from June 1854 as a Volunteer, and for such service
with the Royal Engineers from Oct. 1854 to May 1855, as Assistant Engineer, he received his Commission in the Corps ; has re¬
ceived the Crimean Medal with three Clasps, the Turkish Medal, and the 5th Class of the Medjidie.
94 Captain Swetenliam seiTcd in tlic Indian Mutiny Can\paigu in 18.58-59, as an Assistant Field Engineer, including the
defence of the Jelahahad post under Outram, siege and capture of Luckuow (wounded), storm and capture of the Fort and
entrenchments of Kussia Rampore, passage of the Gogra, and minor engagements at Buracussia, &c. (Medal with Clasp).
95 Ch plain Hime served throughout the Chinese campaign of 1860, and was present at the actions of Sinho and Tangku, storm
and capture of the Taku f(n'ts, and surrender of Pekin (.Medal with two Clasps).
96 Captain Keith served in the Indian Campaign of 1857-58, and was present at theoapture of Lucknow (Medal with Clasp).
97 Captain Clements served throughout the Campaign of I860 in North China, and was present at the actions of Sinho
and Tanfiku, storm and capture of the Taku Forts, action near Tungchow, and surrender of Pekin (Medal with two CIa.sps).
98 Captain W'arburton served in the New Zealand war of 1860-61, employed on special service and mentioned in despatches.
99 Captain Sturt served in the Abyssinian Campaign and commanded Ko. 2 Company Bombay Sappers which did excellent
service on the Scnafe Pass and the Sooro Defile, and was present at the action of Arogee and Capture of Magdala.
100 Lieut. Crowdy was present in charge of a detachment of the Royal Engineers at the Naval operations in the Strait
of Simonoseki in Japan from the 5th to 8th September 1864, resulting in the capture and destruction of the batteries
of the Prince of Negato (mentioned in dispatches).
103 Lieut. W. H. Collins served during the Bliootan C.impaign of 1864-C5 in command of a Company of Sehundy Sappers
and as Assistant Field Engineer, and was severely wounded at the assault and capture of Fort Dalimcote.
104 Veterinary Surgeon Fleming served in the Military Train with the expedition in North China in 1660, and
was present at Sinlio, Tangku, capture of the Taku Forts, actions near Tangcliow, and surrender of Pekin (liledal

109 Lieut. K. C. Pye served as Assistant Field Engineer witii the Dooar field force in 1865. Commanded 7th Company

117 Lieut. Manwai-ing served in the Abyssinian Campaign as an Assistant Field Engineer and was employed in the
Water Supply Department (mentioned in dispatclies).
118 Lieut. Coaker served as an Assistant Field Engineer, working with the -Itli Company Bombay Sappers and Miners
throughout the Abyssinian Campaign.
119 Lieut. Puzey served in the Abyssinian Campaign in charge of the Telegraphs between Zoulla and Antalo. " The

1 Sir John Cheape served with the forces under Lord Hastings in the Plndarree war of 1815-16, and was present at the
sieges of Uhamouiiee and Mundela. Served with the Nerbudda field force under General Adams in 1817, and under
General Doveton and Sir John Malcolm in 1818, and present at the siege of Asseerghnr. Served throuehont the Burmese
war of 1824.26 (Medal). Punjaub campaign of 1848-49, and was chief engineer at the siege and capture of Mooltan and
battle of Goojerat (Medal with two Clasps, Aide de Camp to the Queen, and Cn.). Was second in command to General
Godwin in the Kurmtsewarof 1852-.'J3, and commanded the expedition which captured Donabew, and was appointed
to command the entire force on departure of General Godwin (Medal, and KCB.).
2 General Garstin served during the Nepaul war of 181516 (Medal). Also the Mahratta war of 1817-18.
3 Lieut.General Goodwyn served at the siege and capture of Bhurtpore in 1825-26 (Medal). Also in the Punjaub
Campaltin (Medal).
4 Major General Baker served in the Sutlej Campaign in 1846, and was mentioned in despatches for conducting General
Dick's division into the entrenchments at Sol)raoii (Medal, and Brevet of Major).
5 Lord Napier served throughout the Sutlej C:anipagn of 1815-46 as Cliief Engineer at the battles of Moodkee
(horse killed) and Ferozeshah (severely wounded and horse killed), and as Brigade Major of Engine rs at the battle of
Sobraon, and in the subsequent advance on Lahore (mentioned in dispatches, IMedal and two Clasp*, ar d Brevet of
Major). Appointed in 1840 Chief Engineer to conduct the siege of the hill f.jrt of Kangra, and received the special
thanks of Government for his services in the transport of the siege train to that place. Served the Pnnjauii campaign
of 1848-49, was Chief Engineer during part of the siege ot Mooltan in 1849 (severely viounded), and Commanding
Engineer of the riuht wing at the battle of Gonjerat, and in Sir Walter Gilbert's i ursult of the Sikh Army (mentioned
Medal with two Clasps, and Brevet of Lt.Colonel). Commanded a column which defeated the Hiissunzie tribe on the
Black Mountain in Hazara in 1852. Present with the Expedition against the Bnree Afreeriees in 1852-63, and received
the special thanks of Government. Served throughout the Indian Mirtiny Campaijjns ; was t'hief of the Staff to Outrara
in 1857, and present in the several actions leading to the first relief of Lncknow in September—Mungarwar, Alum¬
bagh, and Charbagh ; commanded the troops in the rescue of the siege train which had been surrounded and cut oU' in
the suburbs ; the sortie for the capture of Phillip's Garden Battery, and other sejiarate operations (severely wounded).
