1 Sir Charles O'Donnell was present with the Russian troops in the Campaign of 1828 on the Danube against the
Turks ; and in 1849 with the German Troops in Schleswig-Holstein and Jutland, especially at Dupple and the battle ol
Fredericia.
2 Colonel Prettejohn served with the wing of the 14th Light Dragoons in the Campaign in the Southern Mahratta
Country in 1844-45, and was present at the investment and capture of the fortresses of Panella and Pownghur. Also
Ihrouijhout the Punjaub Campaign of 18-18-49, including the action of Ramnuggur with the charging Squadrons, passage of
the Chenab, battles of Chillianwallah and Goojerat, puisuit of the enemy across the Jhelum and of the Affghans over the
Indus through the Kyber Pass (Medal with two Clasps). Served with the Persian expedition of 1857 and was present at
the bombardment and capture of the forts of Mohumra (Medal). Also with the Central India field force under Sir Hugh
Kose in 1857.58 and was present at the siege and capture of Rahutghur, action of Barodia, relief of Saugor, capture of Gur-
rakota, forcing the Muddenpore pass (wounded), battle of Betwa in command of the three troops actually engaged (horse
wounded in two places), siege and capture of the town and fortress of Jhansi, battle of Koonch, and commanded the right
wing of the 14th Lt. Drs. in the pursuit, affairs during the advance on Calpee, capture of Calpee, action of Morar
and recapture ot the town and fortress of Gwalior and pursuit ending in the action of Jowra Allipore, in command of the
Squadron, action of Ranode in command of the only Squadron present—severely wounded (four times mentioned in
despatches. Brevets of Major and Lt.Colonel, Medal with two Clasps).
3 Captain Pej-ton served as an Engineer Officer on the Peshawnr Frontier in 1854 and 1855 and remodelled the forts of
Michnee, Shuhkudder, and Abozai, between the Khyher Pass and Cabool river, in front of an Enemy, his men having on more
than one occasion been shot down at their work and his predecessor Lieut. Bulnois of the Bengal Engineers killed in dis¬
charge of that duty ; was present at every engagement which took place with the Hill Tribes during the above period. Re¬
ceived the thanks of Government for special services on the frontier of 'Thibet. Served during the Indian Mutiny of 1857-58
and nan'owly escaped falling into the hands of the Sealkote Mutineers at the engagement on the Ravee under General
Nicholson; was present at the Peshawur outbreak as 2nd in Command of the 18th Punjaub Irregulars, the Commanding
Officer, the Adjutant, and the Doing Duty Officer, the only other European ofBcers present being all three severely wounded
(Medal). Captain Peyton has passed the Interpreters' Examination in Ilindostanee and taken degrees of high proficiency in
the Oordoo and Persian Languages at the Colleges of Calcutta and Madras, and received the reward—iE4<X).
