formation to the day it wa.s disbanded, a great part of the time as Deputy Assistant Quarter Master General (4ta
Glass of the Medjidie, and the Turkish War Medal). Served in the Indian Mutiny campaign, including the siege
and capture of Ratghur, action at Barodea, relief of Saugor, capture of Garrakota, forcing of the Muddeupore Pass,
siege and storm of Jhansi, and the battle of the Betwa (Medal with Clasp for Central India, and specially mentioned
ia despatches).
"s Major General H. T. Rogers served in the second Burmese war (Medal).
'^ Major General R. M. Rogers served with the 44th Regiment in the Crimea from the 27th Aug. 1S55, including
the siege and fall of Sebastopol (Medal with Clasp for Sebastopol, and Turkish Medal). Served also lu theChiua cam¬
paign in i860, including the action of Sinho, and was severely wounded at the storming of the Taku Forts (men¬
tioned in despatches, promoted Captain unattached, Victoria Cross, and Medal with Clasp): together with Private
John M'Dougall, 44 Foot, and Lieut. E. H. Lenon, 67 Foot, he was awarded the UiC " for distinguished gallantry in
swimming the ditches and entering the North Taku Fort (China, 14th August i860) by an embrasure during the
assault. They were the flrst of the English established on the walls of the lort, which they entered in the order in
which their names are here recorded, each one being assisted by the others to mount the embrasure." Commanded
the yoth Light Infantry throughout the Zulu war of 1879, and was present in the engagements at Zungin Nek,
Kambula, and Dluudi itwice mentioned in despatches. Brevets of Lt.Colonel and Colonel, Medal with Claso).
^™ Major General W. Rooke served in the Crimean campaign from August 1855, including the siege and fall of
Sebastopol (Medal with Clasp, and Turkish Medal).
'■"^ Major "jeneral W. Rose served in Goomsoor in 1847. Against the hill tribes in Rajahmundry district in
September and October 1857. With the Saugor Field Division in 185S-9.
«'•' Major General R. H. R. Roivley served in the Kaffir war of 1851-53 (Medal). Also in the China Expedition
of i860, and was present at the capture of the Taku Forts, actions of the iSta and 21st deptaoitjer near Taiigcnow
and surrender of Pekin (Medal with two Clasps).
^'^ Major General J. E. Ruck-Keene served in the Crimean campaign of 1S54-55, including the battle of
Inkerman, siege and fall of Scliastopol (wounded in the Trenches with the siege train as Adjutant left attack
(mentioned in despatches), and bombardments of 17th October, 9th April, and 6th and. 17th June, and was with
the Light Brigade at Bupatoria (Medal with two Clasps, Knight of the Legion of Honor, and Turkish Medal).

the Afghan war in 1878-79, and took part with the second expedition into the Bazar Valley imder Lieut.General

Was present at the defence of the Residency at Lucknow from Juno to Nov. 1857 (Medal with Clasp, and a j-ear'a
service). Commanded the 19th Bengal Native Infantry in the Bhootan campaign in 1865, including the assault
and capture of the Bala Stockades ("Brevet of Major, Medal with Clasp).
w Major General Lindsay Russell served as Brigade Major of Engineers at the relief of Lucknow by Havelock,
and throughout the subsequent defence of the Residency—wounded (Medal with Clasp, and a year's service).

Sobraon {.Medal and Clasp). Served under Brigadier NeiU against the mutineers at Allahabad in 1^57, and as

sorties on 14th, iSth, and 23rd July (wounded by a splinter of a shell on the 10th August;, and commanded tha
Light Company at the atsault of the City (wounded); also present in the action of Dilkoosha and relief of Lucknow
nnder Lord Clyde, the afl'air of the 2nd and action of the 6th December at Cawnpore, and action of Khudagun
(Medal with Clasps).

against the rebels in Central India in 1S5S-59.

Artillery of the iirst Division, and was present in the action at Kassasin (oth Sept.), and in the battle of Tel-el-
Kebir (twice mentioned in despatches, CB., Medal with Clasp, 3rd Class of'the Medjidie, and Khedive's Star).

Pegu in January 1853 (Medal with Clasp for Pegu). Was engaged in suppressing the mutiny in Bengal with Major
General Whiilock's i'orce in 1858-59, and present at the surrender of the rebel Narrain Rao of Kirwee; commanded
a company of his regiment at the all'air of Jignee (Medal with Clasp).
">* Major General G. A. Searle served in the Burmese war in 1S52-53 (Medal with Clasp for Pegu). Held in
detached command two Companies of his regiment on field service during the insurrection in North Cauara from
i8th April till ist December 1858 (Medal).
w Major General C. M. Shakespear served during the second Burmese war in 1S52-53, and was present during
the operations before and attack on Rangoon on the nth 12th 13th and 14th April 1852, assault and capture of
Bassein 19th May 1852 (Medal with Clasp for Pegu).
«»5 Major General Hugh Shaw served with the i8th Royal Irish in the Crimea subsequent to the fall of Sebastopol
from December 1855 until the end of the Russian war in 1S56. Served also in the New Zealand war in 1S64-66, and
was present m the engagements at Nukumaru (mentioned in despatches, Victoria Cross, and Medal): was awarded
the yc " for his gallant conduct at the skirmish near Nukumaru, in New Zealand, on the 24th January, 1865, in pro¬
ceeding under a heavy fire with four Privates of the Regiment, who volunteered to accompany him, to within thirty
yards of the bush occupied by the rebels, in order to carry off a comrade who was badly wounded. On the afternoon
