- Captain Lye, Lieuts. Francis and
Doran served with the iSth Royal
Irish in the Afghan war in 1880
(Medal).
« Lt.Colonel Dawson served with
the 18th RojalIrish in the Crimea,
subsequent to the fall of Sebastopol,
from* 3rd October 1855 to the end oi'
the Russian war. Served in the New
Zealand war from 1S63 to 1B66 and
was present at the epgagement at
Nukumaru (mentioned in despatch¬
es) and other minor engagements.

New Zealand war in 1866 (Medal).

Garnet Wolseley to the Gold Coast
in September 1873 on special ser¬
vice, and sei-ved throughout the
Ashanti Warof 1873-74. Commanded
a portion of the Houssas at the
action of Essaman and taking of
the villages along the Coast: pro-
sent at Quarman 31st January,
having been attacked while escort¬
ing ammunition to the front;
also present at the capture and
destruction of Becquah, battle of
Ordahsu, and capture of Coomassio
(twice mentioned in despatches.
Medal with Clasp). Served with the
iSth Roj-al Irish in the Afghan war
in 1880 with the Khyber Field Force
(Medal).
