the siege of Sebastopol from Dec. 1854 to Aug. 1855, including the assault of the Eedan on the i8th June (Medal with
Clasp, 5th Class of the Medjidie, and Turkish Medal).
-'^ Lt.Colonel Ej-nd served with the 62nd Regt. in the Crimea from the 19th May 1855, including the siege and
fall of Sebastopol (Modal with Clasp, 5th Class of the Medjidie, and Turkish Medal).
-'^ Lt.Colonel St. Maiir accompanied the 51st Light Infantry on the expedition to Burmah in 1852, and was on
board the B.I.C. steam-frigate Ferooz during the naval action and destruction of the enemy's stockades on the Ran¬
goon river, landed in command of the Regiment, and was compelled to leave the field from a sunstroke on the 13th
April, during the operations in the vicinity of Rangoon (Medal with Clasp for Pegu).
-'■'* Lt.Colonel H. ¥. Saunders served at, Sierra Leone iind the Gambia from 1836 to 1841; was present with the
expeditionary force in the interior in 1837; employed on a special mission to convey despatches to the French at
Senegal in 1838 ; commanded the troops at a riot at the Gambia in 1838, and whilst at night patrolling cnptured a
gun. Served in the Indian mutiny, and was mentioned in despatches as having distinguished himself, and for most
devoted and gallant conduct (Brevet of Major, and Medal).
2^* Lt.Colonel H. B. Scott served with the 9th Regiment in the Crimea from Dec. 1854, including the siege and
fall of Sebastopol and assault of the batteries on the i8th June (Medal with Clasp, Knight of the Legion of Honor,
and Turkish Medal).
^'8 Lt.Colonel J. D. Shakespear served the Eastern campaign of 1854 and up to Jan. 1855, including the affairs of
Bulganac and M'Keuzie's Farm, the battles of Alma, Balaklava (horse shot), and Inkerman, and siege of Sebas¬
topol (Medal with four Clasps, Brevet Major, 5th Class of the Medjidie, and Turkish Medal).
2'" Lt.Colonel J. E. Sharp served in the 2nd Battalion ofthe Royals in Canada during the rebellion in 1838. Landed
with the Battalion in the Crimea on the 22nd April, 1855, and was at the siege and fall of Sebastopol (Medal with
Clasp, 5th Class of the Medjiilio, and Turkish Medal).
-°* Lt.Colonel W. A. Shortt served with the 57th Regiment in the Crimea from 15th Nov. 1854, including
the siege and fall of Sebastopol, attack of the Reda,n on the i8th June with the storming Column; was also at the
bombardment and capture of Kinbourn (Medal with Clasp, 5th Class of the Medjidie, and Turkish Medal). Served
in the latter part of the New Zealand war in 1861. Also in that of 1863-64, and was present at the action ol
Katikara (mentioned in despatch, and Brevet of Major), and commanded at Sentry Hill, Taranaki, when the
redoubt was attacked on the 30th April 1864, by sooMaories, who were repulsed with heavy loss (mentioned in de¬
spatch). Served also as D.A. Quarter Master General in New Zealand from 1st Jan. to 30th Nov. 1866, and
thanked in general orders (Medal).
^^' Lt.Colonel Shuttleworth served the Eastern campaign of 1854-55 '"'itb tlie 68th Light Infantry, including tho
battles of Alma, Balaklava, and Inkerman, siege and fall of Sebastopol (Medal with four Clasps, 5th Class of the
Medjidie, and Turkish Medal). Served also in the New Zealand war in 1864-66, including the attack on Gate Pah
and engagement at TeRanga (twice mentioned in despatches, Brevet of Lt.Colonel, and Medal).
3"" Lt.Colonel Simmons served in the Peninsula as volunteer with the 34th Rcgt. and aftei-wards as an Officer in
the 23rd, and in the Rifle Brigade, from Sept. 1811 to the end of that war in 1814, including the storming of the forts
at Almaraz, aifairsof San Munos and San Milan, battle of Vittoria, actions at Yauii Bridf-e and Echalar, storming
Vera Heights, crossing the Bidassoa, battle of Nivelle, battles of the Nive on the loth nth and 12th Dee. 1813
(War Medal with three Clasps). Served with the 41st Regt. throughout the Burmese war, and was present at the
.■storming of Rangoon and S,>Tian Pagoda; led the head of the left Column storming the Trenches in front ofthe
Dagon Pagoda, storming a strong stockade in front of the Dagon Pagoda (Medal). Commanded the Left AVing of
the 41st Regt. in the field against the Kolapore Rajah. Served mth the Regiment during the campaign of 1842 in
AfTghanistan, and commanded a Column of attack in the action of the 2Sth April in the Pishoen Valley; present
also in the actions near Candahar, at Goaine, and before Ghuznee; occupation and destrr.ction of that fortress and
of Cabool; expedition into Kohistan; storm capture and destruction of IstalifiT, and in the various minor affairs
in and between the Bolan and Khyber Passes (Medal).
'"' Lt.Colonel C. M. B. Siree served with the 33rd Regiment in the Eastern campaign in 1854, and was severel.y
wounded while carrying the colours at the battle of Alma (Medal with Clasp, and Turkish Medal).
^"^ Lt.Colonel T. H. Smith served with the i8th Royal Irish in the Bm-meso war of 1852-53, was present at the
capture of Martaban, at the operations before Rangoon on the 12th 13th and 14th April, at the capture of tho Great
Dagon Pagoda (with the storming party) and capture of Prome. Also served with a force detached for the purpose
of clearing the right bank of the Irrawaddy of the enemy, from November 1852 to March 1853, and was employed as
Staff Officer a considerable portion ofthe period (Medal with Clasp for Pegu). Was on board the troop-ship Perse¬
verance in command of six Companies ofthe 2iid West India Regiment when that vessel was totally viTccked off the
island of Maio on the 21st Oct. i860. Present at the destruction of Rovana, and commanded the combined naval and
military forces at the attack and destruction ofthe Fetish town of Robagga on 7th Jan. 1862.
2" Lt.Colonel Somerville served with the 6th Regiment during the Kaffir war of 1846-47 (Medal); and with tho
68th in the Eastern campaign of 1854-55, including the battles of Alma, Balaklava, and Inkerman, and siege of
Sel)a6topol (Medal with four Clasps, 5th Class of the Medjidie, and Turkish Medal).
•■'"5 Lt.Colonel J. F. Stepheus served with the 86ih Regiment during the Indian mutiny of 1857-59, and was present
at the disarming of four Companies of the 27th Bombay N.I. at Ratnagherry iithAug. 1857. Served in the Central
India Field Force under Sir Hugh Rose, and was present at the action of Koonch, operations betore Cal]iee liom
15th to 2ist May, battle of Golowlee, capture ofthe town and fortress of Calpee, battle "f Morar, battle before and
storm and capture of the town and fortress of Gwalior (Medal with Clasp). Served in 1863 during the Tacping re¬
bellion as Adjutant General to the Anglo-Chinese Force under Lt.Colonel Gordon; present at the attack and
capture by storm of thew.alledcity of Taitsan, istMay, also at the attack and capture of the walled city of Quinsan,
including the taking of the rebel positions at the east and west gates of the city, ist June, and repulse of the soitie
of the gairison (eliding in the t-urrender of 2,000 rebels), together with the capture of numerous stockades and
minor operations (Chinese Imperial decoration ofthe Red Button).
'■"»' Lt.Colonel N. Stoevens served with the 88th Regt. throughout the Eastern campaign of 1854-55, including the
battles of Alma and Iiikerman, siege and fall of Sebastopol (contused wound in the Trenches 28tli July), and attack
on the Eedan on the i8tli June andStli "-^ept. ; and was employed as Assistant Engineer in the Trenches, right attack,
at the coinmencemeiit of the siege (Medai with three Clasps,'Brevet of Major, Knight of the Legion of Honor, 5th
Class of the Medjidie, and Turkish Medal).
3<" Lt. Colonel H.H. Stevenson served with the 79thHighlanders throughout theEastem campaign of 1854-55, including
the battles of Alma and Balaklava, siege and fall of Sebastopol, assaults of the iSth June and 8th September, expe¬
dition to Kertch and Yenikale (Medal with three Clasps, Sardinian and Turkish Medals, and 5th Class of the Med¬
jidie). Served in the Indian campaign of 1858-59, including the siege and capture of Lucknow; served as a Brigade
Major from Feb. 1858 to the close of tho campaign (frequently mentioned in despatches, Brevet of Major, Medal
with Clasp).
3»» Lt.Colonel E. A. T. Steward served with the 2 istFusihers throughout the Eastern campaign of 1854-55, including
the battles of Alma, B.alaklava, and Inkerman, siege and fall of Sebastopol, attack of the Redan on the i8th June,
and the expedition to Kinbourn (Medal with four Clasps, Brevet of Major, and Turkish Medal).
™' Lt.Colonel D. Stewart served in the Indian campaign in 1858, and was present with the 13th. Light Infantry
at the battle of Azimghur on 6th April, and specially thanked ; acted as Orderly Officer to Brigadier General Jones
in the action at Shahjehanpore on 14th May; was present at the action of Mohunpore on 26th May. Commanded
two Sfiuadrons of Irregular Cavaliy at the siege and capture of the Fort of Cowrie in August, and at the action of
Beejapore on 6th September—wounded by sabre-cut on left hand, and mentioned in despatches (Medal with Clasp,
and Brevet of Majorj.
^'" Lt.C!olonel Stisted ser\-ed the Punjaub campaign of 1848-49 with the 3rd Light Dragoons, and was present at the
affair of Ramnuggnr, the passage of the Chenab at Wuzeerabad on the ist Dee. 1848 with the Force under Sir Joseph
Tha.ckwell, action of Sadoolapore, battles of Chillianwallah (wounded, and charger wounded) and Goojerat (Medal
with two Clasps). Served with the 12th Lancers in the Crimea from 9th May 1855, inclifding the siege and fall of
Scbastopol (Medal with Clasp, and Turkish Medal). Served with the 7th Hussars in the Indian campaign from 5eb.
1858 to Jlnreh 1859 and was present at the affiiir of Meangunge, siege and capture of Lucknow, affair of Barree,
action of Nawahgunge, occupation of Pyzabad, passage ofthe Goomtee at Sultanpore, throughout the Byswarra
campaign including the affairs of Doudpore, Pandoo Nuddee, Palecghat, Hyderghur, and pursuit of Benhi Madho s
