Lladres, Morella (tiego of), Berga and its twenty-two redoubts; charged, with seven Lancers, Bosque's Squadron,
completeij' routing it, killing seven and capturing five horses.
-"^ Lt.Colonel M'Bamet served in the 79th Highlanders throughout the Eastern campaign of 1854-55, including
the battles of Alma and Balaklava-, siege and fall of Sebastopol, assaults of the i8th Jvme and 8th Sept., expedition
to Kortch and Yenikale (Medal with three Clasps, 5th Class of the Medjidie, and Turkish Medal). Served in the In¬
dian campaign of 1858-59, including the siege and cajitrn'O of Lucknow (Brevet of Ma,ior, Modal with Clasp).
^''* Lt.Colonel J. MCourt served as Brigade Major with the expedition against tiie King of Keunng, River Gambia,
in the actions of the 6th 7th and 8th May 1849. Was present with the combined British and French naval and land
Force at the attack and defeat of Pirates in Basis Island, Geba River, Dec. 1849. Commanded the British and
Native Force dirring the Ashantes invasion of the Assin country. Gold Coast, in March and April 1853.
^^ Lt.Colonel P. M'Phci'Sou served with the i7tli Regiment in the Crimea frora the 6th Sept. 1855, including the
eiege and fdll of SebMStopol and assault of the Redan on the 8th Sept. 1855; was also at the bombardment and
eurrender of Kinbourn (Medal with Clasp, and Turkish Medal).
^"^ Lt. Colonel Macbeath served with the 68th Light Infantry the Eastern campaign of 1854-55, including the battles
of Alma and Inkermau, and siege of Sebastopol (Medal with three Clasps, Sardinian and Turkish Medals).
^^ Lt.Colouel P. MacDonald served in the Tui-kish Contingent at Kertch, first as Brigade Major and afterwards
in command of a Regiment (Turkish Medal).
^"^ Lt.Colonel F. J. MacFarlaue served in the Sutlej campaign of 1845-46 in the 9th Lancers, including the battle
of Sobraou (Medal). He served also in the Puujuub campaign of 184S-49, and was present at the passage of the
Chenab at Ramnuggur, and battles of Chillianwallah and Goojorat (Meilal with two Clasps).
_ ^"^ Lt.Colonel M. MacGregor commanded the Light Company of the loth Rcgt. in the early part of the siege opera¬
tions before Mooltan in 1848, including-the repulse of the enemy's night attack upon the British Camp at Muttee
Thol, 17th August, and storming their strongly entrenched position before Mooltan, 12th September; severely
■wounded—left hand shattered by a musket-shot (Medal with Clasp).
^" Lt.Colonel F. D. Maclean served with the 13th Hussars in the Eastern campaign of 1854, including the battle
■of Alma and siege of Sebastopol (Medal with two Clasps, and Turkish Medal).
^'^ Lt.Colonel L. Macpherson served the Eastern campaign of 1854, and up to the 30th July 1S55 with the 30th
Regt., including the battles of Alma and Inkerman, siege of Sebastopol, and sortie of 26th Oct. (Medal with Clasps,
5th Class of the Medjidie, and Turkish Medal).
^'^ Lt.Colonel A. J. Macpherson served with the 24th Regt. in the Punjaub campaign of 1848-49, and was present
s,t the passage of the Chonab and battles of Sadoolapore and Chillianwallah—severely wounded (Medal with two
Clasps). Served in the Indian camjmign of 1857-58, and was present with a Detachment of the 24th Regt. at the
defeat of the Jhelum mutineei-s on 7th July 1857, and succeeded to the command (Brevet of Major) ; served subse¬
quently in command of the 22nd Regiment Puiijaub Infantry (Medal).
*'* Lt.Colonel Maguire served with the 55th Regt. in China, and was present at the attack and capture of Amoy,
second capture of Chusan, attack an<l capture of Chinhae, and operations up the Yangtsekiang (Modal). Served
with the 60th Rifles thi-oughont the Punjaub campaign of 1848-49, including the siege and storm of the town and
capture of the citadel of Mooltan, battle of Goojerat, pursuit of the Sikh army vmtil its final surrender at Rawul
Pindee, occupation of Attock and Peshawur, and expulsion of the AfFghan force beyond the Kliybcr Pass (Medal
■with two Clasps). Served throughout the campaign of Rohilciind in 1858, including the actions of Bugawalla and
Nugena, relief of Moradabad, action on the Dojura, assault and capture of Bareilly, attack and bombardment of
Shahjehanpore, defeat of the rebels and relief of the garrison, capture of the fort of 13unnai, pursuit of the enemy
to the left bank of the Goomteo, and destruction of the fort of Mahomdee; commanded a wing of the ist Battalion
60th Rifles at the attack and destruction of Shahabad (Brevet of Major) ; commanded the Battalion in the action 0 f
Bunkagong (Medal), and was three times mentioned in despatches and recommended for an unattached Majority
by Lord Clyde for service in the field, in lieu of which he subsequently obtained the Brevet of Lt.Colouel.
'"^ Lt.Colonel Manners sei-ved throughout the Burmese war of 1852-53, and was present with the 51st Light In¬
fantry on board the E.I.C. steam-frigate Ferooz at the attack and destruction of the enemy's batteries and stockades
on the Rangoon river on the nth April 1852 ; on the following day commanded tlie skirmishers that covered the
disembarkation and advance of the storming party at the capture of the White House Redoubt; at the final assault
aiad taking of Rangoon he commanded the Escort of the Major General Commanding, and at the storm and capture
of Rangoon. Was appointed Brigade Major to the 1st Madras Brigade in Sept. 1S5J, and was present at the en¬
gagement on the Heights of Prome (Medal with Cla sp for Pegu).
-'" Lt.Colonel Mansergh served with the 6th Regt. in the Kattir war from the attack in the Boomah Pass 24th Dec.
1850, to the conclusion of the war in 1853 (Medal). Was placed by Sir Harry Smith in command of the isolated post
of Fort AVliite in the enemy's country on the 28th Dec. 1850; caused the post to be stockaded, and with his part.y of
120 men defended it on the 3rd January 1851 against a force of 1,000 Kaffirs under Sandilly, Axita, and other chiefs,
who were defeated with severe loss, for which service he and his garrison were complimented in General orders.
Was afterwards present at both affairs at the Waterkloof, and commanded the Regiment at the first attack.
'"' Lt.Colonel W. G. Margesson served with the 56th Regiment in the Crimea from the 25th Aug. 1855, including
the siege and fall of Sebastopol (Medal with Clasp, Knight of the Legion of Honor, and Turkish Medal).
-^" Lt.Colonel Thomas Martin served with the 18th Royal Irish throughout the China expedition (Medal), and was
present at the storming of Amoy, attack and capture of Chapoo, Woosung, Shanghai, and Chin Kiang Foo (where
he commanded the Light Company), and investment of Nankin.
^-' Lt.Colonel W. Mathias served in the Sutlej campaign of 1845-46 (Medal and one Clasp); commanded a strong
Detachment of H.M. Troops p.t the affair of liuddiwal; was in command at the battle of Aliwal, where he had
<;harge of the howitzers (named in the despatches, and made Brevet Major); and commanded the Grenadier Com¬
pany 62nd Regt. at the battle of Sobraon (wounded).
^^^ Lt.Colonel Maude ser-sTed the Eastern campaign of 1S54 in command of a Troop of Royal Horse Artillery, in¬
cluding the affairs of Bulganac and M'Kenzie's Farm, the battles of Alma and Balaklava (dangerously wounded
and horse shot), and siege of Sebastopol (Medal with three Clasps, CB., 5th Class of the Medjidie, aiid Turkish Medal).
'^^ Lt.Colonel B. B. Mauleverer served with the 88th Regiment in the Crimea fr.im 12th July 1855, including the
siege and fall of Sebastopol, and was severely wounded at the attack of the Redan on the 8th September (Medal
with Clasp, Brevet of Major, and Turkish Medal). Served also in the Indian campaign of 1857-58, including the
action at Bhognapore, fall of Calpee, action of Jamoo, and capture of the fort of Birwah—mentioned in despatches
(Medal with Clasp).
'''^^ Sir H. F. H. Maxse served the Eastern campaign of 1854 as Aide de Camp to Lord Cardigan, including
the battles of Alma and Balaklava (wounded), and siege of Sebastopol (Medal with three Clasps, 5th Class of the
Medjidie, and Turkish Medal).
"^^ Lt.Colonol Hon. J. P. Maxwell served with the 50th Regt. the Eastern compaign up to 3rd Nov. 1854, including
the battle of Alma and siege of Sebastopol,—severely injured in the head by a round-shot in the Trenches in Oct.
(Medal with two Clasps, Brevet of Lt.Colonel, 5th Class of the Medjidie, and Turkish Medal).
'-^ Lt.Coloncl Maynard served with the 88th Regt. at the siege of Sebastopol, the attack on the Quarries 7th June
(severely wounded), and attacks of the Redan on the 18th June and 8th Sept. (Medal with Clasp, Brevet of Major,
Sardinian and Turkish Jledals, 5th Classof the Medjidie).
228 Lt.Colonel Mein served with the ist Royals iii Canada during the rebellion of 1838-39. Served the Eastern
campaign of 1854, and up to the 3rd May 1855, including the battles of Alma and Balaklava, and siege of Sebastopol
(Medal with three Clasps, 5th Class of the Medjidie, and Turkish Medal). Served the campaign of i860 in China,
and was present at the taking of Sinho and Tangku, occujjation of Tientsin; commanded the 2nd Battalion on the
advance, and was present at the sm-render of Pekin (Medal with two Clasps).
