Burraree, and Toolsipore (repeatedly mentioned in despatches, thanked by Goverjament. Brevet of Major, Medal,
and CB.).
*"' Major General H. T. Richmond served with the 98th Regiment in the Punjaub campaign of 1848-49 (Medal),
and with the Plank Companies in Sir Charles Napier's Force at the forcing of the Kohat Pass in February 1850
(Medal with Clasp).
^' Major General E. J. Rickards served in the Affghanistan campaign of 1842 under Sir George Pollock, Sutlej
campaign of 1845-46, Indian Mutiny in 1857-58.
*>* Major General Riddell commanded the Siege Artillery of Outram's Force on the left bank of the Goomtee at the
siege and capture of Lucknow in March 1858, also commanded the Artillery of Lugard's Column at the affair of
Tigree, relief of Azimghur, operations in the Jungle and capture of Jugdespore (three times mentioned in de¬
spatches, CB., Medal with Clasp).
^"^ Major General G. Rigaud served with the 60th Rifles in the Kaffir war of 1851-53 (Medal). Also throughout

*"' Major General H. L. Robertson served in the Indian mutiny campaign in 1857-58, and commanded the
Troops at Azimghur and at the engagement with the rebels in August 1857 (Medal). Served in China from April
1858 to March i860 (Medal).
*^ Major General S. Robinson commanded the Royal Artillery of the ist Division in Kaffir war of 1851-53 (Medal).
"■^ Major General H. G. Robison served with the 7th Bombay N.I, during the campaign in the Southern Mahratta
Country in 1844-45 ; as a volunteer under Brigadier Hampton in His Highness the Nizam's service at Gowree against
the Ruhillas (received the thanks of Government). Served in the cavalrj' of the Turkish Contingent from its
formation to the day it was disbanded, a great part of the time as Deputy Assistant Quarter Master General (4th
Class of the Medjidie, and the Turkish War Medal). Served in the Indian mutiny campaign, including the siege
and capture of Ratghur, action at Barodea, relief of Saugor, capture of Garrakota, forcing of the Muddenpore Pass,
siege and storm o t Jhansi, and the battle of the Bet wa (Medal with Clasp for Central India, and specially mentioned
in despatches),
^"^ Major General P. W. A. Robson served in the Southern Mahratta Country in 1844-45, and was present at
Samanghur, Budderghur, Punallaghur, Raugna, Seevapoor, Munohur, and Munsuntosh.
*'" Major General B. II. R, Ros~s served throughout the Sutlej campaign of 1845-46, including the battles of
Moodkee, Ferozeshah, and Sobraon (Medal and two Clasps). Served in the Punjaub campaign in 1849 (Medal).
Served also in the Indian laiutiny campaign in 1857-58, including the battle of Agra (Medal).
*" Major General G. Rotton served at Canton with the force under Rear Admiral Seymour in 1856-57 ; present at
the capture of Canton in Dec. 1857 (Brevet of Major) ; and served with the expedition of i860, including the action
of Sinho, taking of Tangku. and capture of the taku Ports (Brevet of Lt.Colonel, Medal with two Clasps).
*'it Major General R. H. R. Rowley served in the Kaffir war of 1851-53 (Medal). Also in the China Fxpedition
of i860, and was present at the capture of the Taku Forts, actions of the i8th and 21st September near Tangchow
and surrender of Pekin (Medal with two Clasps).
"' Major General J. Ruggles served with the expedition under General Wheeler against Kote Kangra in 1846.
Was present at the del'euee of the Residency at Lucknow from June to Nov. 1857 (Medal with Clasp, and a year's
service). Commanded the 19th Bengal Native Infantry in the Bhootan campaign in 1865, including the assault
and capture of the Bala Stockades (Brevet of Major, Medal with Clasp).
^'^t Major General Lindsay Russell served as Brigade Major of Engineers at the relief of Lucknow by Havelock,
and throughout the subsequent defence of the Residency—wounded (Medal with Clasp, and a year's service).
"' Major General W. C. Russell served in the Sutlej campaign of 1S45-46, including the battles of Ferozeshah and
Sobraon (Medal and Clasp). Served under Brigadier Neill against the mutineers at Allaiabad in 1857, and as
Commissary of Ordnance with the Ai-my in Oude in 1858 (Brevet of Major, Medal).
♦"t Major General B. W. Ryall served throughout the Sonthal insurrection in 1855-56. Served as Adjutant of
2nd Hyderabad Cavalry with Kamptee Movable Column, present at the forcing of Khonie Pass on loth Jan. 185S,
at battles of Khobrio and Bandah (wounded, horse also wounded), capture of Kirwee, and in all minor engage¬
ments fought by Central India Force under Major General Whitlock up to June 1858. Commanded 3rd Seikh
Irregular Cavalry during the Shahabad campaign under Brigadier Douglas, from August 1858 ; commanded
Southern division of Cavalry at battle and capture of Jugdispore in Oct. 1858; at battle of Bandah, while wounded
and charger also wounded, rendered essential service, and cut down several of the enemy in hand-to-hand combat
(several times mentioned in despatches. Medal with Clasp for Central India). Served in the Afghan war of
1878-9 in command of the 8th Bengal Cavalry.
*'* Major General Salusbury served in the Sutlej campaign of 1845-46 and was severely wounded at the battle of
Ferozeshah (Medal). Burmese war of 1852-53, including the recapture of Pegu on 21st Nov., relief of its garrison
on 14th Dec, and operations in the vicinity (Medal with Clasp for Pegu). Suppression of the Indian mutiny, and
was present at the storm and capture of Lucknow, slightly wounded (Brevet of Major, Medal with Clasp). Com¬
manded the loist Fusiliers in the Indian N. W. frontier war of 1863 with the Eusofzaye Field Force, and was present
at the attack and capture of the Crag Piquet, the Conical Hill, and Umbeyla (CB., Medal with Clasp).
♦'= Major General B. N. Sandilands served with the 8th Regt. at the siege of Delhi in 1857, including repulse of
sorties on 14th, i8th, and 23rd July (wounded by a splinter of a shell on the loth August), and commanded the
Light Company at the aesault of the City (wounded); also pri>sent in the action of Dilkooshaand relief of Lucknow
under Lord Clyde, the affair of the 2nd and action of the 6th December at Cawnpore, and action of Khudagunj
(Medal with Clasps).
*"^ Major General J. P. Sandwith served throughout the operations in Sind in 1843, including the battles of
Meeanee and Hyderabad (Medal).
*" Major General E. A. Saunders served under the orders of the Commissioner of Nagpore on various occasions
against the rebels in Central India in 1858-59.
*"+ Major General W. B. Saunders served in the Crimean campaign from June 1855, including the siege and
fall of Sebastopol (Medal with Clasp, and Turkish Medal).
*" Major General E. W. S. Scott served in suppression of the Indian mutiny in 1857-58, including the battles of the
Hindun on 30th and 31st May 1857, siege of Delhi, and operations of Brigadier Showers' Column (Mentioned in des¬
patches, Brevet of Lt.Colonel, Medal with Clasp).
*" Major General E. L. Scott served in Sind in 1843, and was present at the battle of Hyderabad (Medal); also
in the campaign in the Southern Mahratta Country in 1844-45. ,

Pegu in January 1853 (Medal with Clasp for Pegu). Was engaged in suppressing the mutiny in Bengal with Major
Generul Whitlock's Force in 1858-59, and present at the surrender of the rebel Narrain Rao of Kirwee; commanded
a company of his regiment at the affair of Jignee (Medal).
^^ Major General G. A. Searle served in the Burmese war in 1852-53 (Medal with Clasp for Pegu). Held in
detached command two Companies of his regiment on field service during the insurrection in North Canara from
i8th April till ist December 1858 (Medal).
**' Major General C. M. Shakespear sei-ved during the second Burmese war in 1852-53, and was present during
the operations before and attack on Rangoon on the nth 12th 13th and i4thApril 1852, assault and capture of
Eassein 19th May 1852 (Medal with Clasp for Pegu).
*''' Major General G. Shaw served in the Crimean campaign in 1855, in the Trenches with the siege train before
Sebastopol, and at the bombardments of 9th April, 6th and 17th June, 17th August, and 8th September (Brevet of
Major, Medal with Clasp, Sardinian and Turkish Medals, CB., and 5th Class of the Medjidie).
