the force that drove the rebels out of^the station the next day. Served throughout the defence of the Residency from
the 30th June to the 22nd November, and as a volunteer with the 78th Highlanders accompanied the force under
Colonel Napier (Lord Napier of Magdala) that went out to the Mootee Manzil to bring in the sick, wounded,
heavy guns, and ammunition left behind by the relieving force under Havelock, and was sent to report at night
that more doolies were required for the sick and wounded; was afterwards present at the battle of Cawnpore and
defeat of the Gwalior Contingent (Medal with Clasp, and a year's service). Served the campaign of 1862-63 in the
Jynteah Hills, and saved the records and treasure on the Cutcherry being destroyed by lightning.
^^' Lt.Colonel J. May served with the Volunteer Cavalry at Luckuow, and was present at the action of Chinhut
30th June T857, also throughout the defence of the Residency acting as a Subaltern of Artillery and subsequently
as Assistant Field Engineer. Served afterwards with the force at the Alumbagh and was present in the various
actions (wounded), and accompanied Lord Clyde's Force at the final capture of Lucknow (Medal with two Clasps).
1^ Lt.Colonel W. Thompson served in the Nagpore Province to intercept the rebels under Tantia Topee from 9th
November 1858 to 26th January 1859. He served with a column of observation on the banks of the Wurdah river
for the suppression of disturbances in the Nizam's Dominions in conjunction with a column under Sir Hugh Rose
from ist to 30th March 1859.
'^' Lt.Colonel R. Beadon served during the Indian mutiny campaigns in 1857-58, and was present at the siege of
Lucknow, skirmish at Tigree, capture of Azimghur and pursuit; at Sanilwar he captured a g-pounder; operations
in the Jugdespore Jungles and pursuit; action at Nonadee and pursuit to the Kymaon Hills (twice mentioned in-
despatches, Medal with Clasp). Served the campaign of i860 in China, including the taking of the Taku Ports,,
action at Chankiawan, and surrender of Pekin (Medal with two Clasps).
'"" Lt. Colonel C. Beadon, prior to entering the Indian Army, served five years as a Midshipman in the Roy al Navy,
was on board H.M. ship Algiers at the bombardment and fall of Bomarsund during the Baltic campaign of 1854;
under Sir Charles Napier (Medal). Served afterwards in the same ship during the siege and fall of Sevastopol
between the 23rd October 1854 and December 1855, and was present at the taking of Kertch and Kinbourn (Medal
with Clasp). Was engaged in the operations against Canton on board H.M. ships Calcutta and Ellc. Served on
the River Ganges as a Volunteer during the late mutiny in the H.B.I. Company's gunboat Jumna.
"■^ Lt.Colonel F. S. Cherry was employed during the Indian mutiny in Shahabad, and engaged at Burhampoor
14th October, Khereo Baugor i6th October, Jugdespore i8th October, Seekreta and Koath Khaz 20th October, and
Aniabad 30th November 1858, and in Bundlecund till June 1S59 (Medal).
1" Lt.Colonel C. A. Moore commanded a detachment of the 2nd Bombay Light Cavalry at the taking of Rewa j
present at the taking of Awah; served with the Field Force in Central India in 1858; present during the operations
in the Mahee Kanta in 1858; and at the night attack of the Khosias at Bhyrannah and during the operations at
Nuggur Parker; present during the operations in Kattywar, and at the taking of the Burda Hills and defeat oj
the Wagheers at that place in 1859 (Medal with Clasp). Served with the 3rd Light Cavalry during the Abyssinian
campaign of 1867-68, and commanded the Regiment at the storming and capture of Magdala (mentioned in de¬
spatches. Medal).
^'* Lt.Colonel A. H. Prinsep was present at the mutiny of his Regiment, the 6th Bengal Light Cavalry, at Seal-
kote on the gth July 1857 and was wounded. He afterwards served against the rebels in the Gogaria Jungles^
and was present at the final siege and capture of Lucknow (Medal with Clasp).
'^^ Lt.Colonel J. M. C. Galloway was employed during the Indian mutiny in Shahabad, and was engaged at Kheree
7th October, Burhampoor 14th October, Kheree Saugor i6th October, Jugdespore i8th October, and Seekreta and
Koath Khaz 20th October 1858, and in Bundlecund during the whole of 1859 (Medal).
"I' Lt.Colonel T. H. T. Chalon served with the Copal Movable Column and Bellary Field Force in 1858, and was
present at the storming of Copal (Medal).
"' Lt.Colonel T. F. C. Rochfort served during the Indian ir.utiny campaign in 1857-58, and was present at the siege
and capture of Lucknow, the subsequent operations in Oude and actions of Koorsee and Baree (Medal with Clasp)..
"8 Major H. C. Stevens was employed in Bengal and Buudlecund from January to June 1859.
1*0 Major J. S. Irvine served at the relief of Azimghui- in April 1858, and in the subsequent pursuit of Koer
Sing (Medal).
'*' Major A. P. Currie served throughout the Persian campaign of 1856-57, including the assault and capture
of the fort of Reshire, surrender of Bushire, at Borazjoon, and action of Khooshab (Medal with Clasp). Served iu
the Indian mutiny campaign, including the pursuit of Tantia Topee and the Gwalior rebels in 1858-59.
182 Major R. G. Birch served with the Volunteer Cavalry with Havelock's Force in 1857, and was severely
wounded at the first relief of Luoknow (Medal with Clasp, and a year's service).
1*^ Major C. 0. Morris served during the suppression of the Indian mutiny in the Shahabad district, and was
present at the affair at Berhampore on the 14th October 1858.
1** Major H. S. Daniell served with the Persian E.xpeditionary Force in 1857 (Medal with Clasp). Served with
the Central India Field Force under Sir Hugh Rose in 1858, and was present at the siege and capture of Ratghur,
action at Barodea (wounded), relief of Saugor, action at Gurrakhota, siege and capture of Jhansi, battle of
Koonch, actions before and taking of Calpee, actions at Morar and Gwalior, battle of Jowra Alipore. Served in
the Jhansi and Jaloun Districts in 1858, and was present at the action at Mow Mahoni. Served as Staff Officer to
the force employed in the operations in tfce Chundairi District in 1859 (Medal with Clasp).
'*' Lt.Colonel H. M. BuUer served with the Eusofzye Force on the N. W. Frontier of India in 1863, including
the attack on and capture of Umbeyla (Medal with Clasp).
186 Major R. Morris served with the 2nd Dragoon Guards in the Indian mutiny campaign in 1858, and was
present at the siege and capture of Lucknow and subsequent operations at Koorsee (Medal with Clasp).
'87 Major G. C. Jack.son served with the Eusufzai Field Force in 1863, and was present at the reconnaissance and
affair in the Chumla Valley, at the storming of the Conical Hill, destruction of Lalloo, and burning of Umbeyla
(mentioned in despatches). Served with the Abyssinian Expedition in 1868, and was present at the action
of Arogee and capture of Magdala (mentioned in despatches, and received the approbation of Government, Medal).
188 Major H. C. Kemble was present at the relief of Azimghur in April 1858 (Medal).
18' Major G. E. Brskine served with the Rajpootana Field Force under Brigadier M. W. Smith in 1858-59.
I'o Major W. W. Hooper served with a squadron of his regiment on field service in the Deccan from the i6th
November 1858 to the 5th April 1859, including the march of fifty miles without a halt on the aSth February in pur¬
suit of and defeat of the enemy and taking several prisoners (Medal).
I'l Major J. G. D. Walker served with his regiment in the campaign in Bundlecund under Brigadier Whelsr
n 1859.
