'' Major Thomson served during the Indian mutiny of 1857-58, and was present at the disarming of four
Companies of the 27th Bombay Native Infantry at Rutnagherry on the nth August 1857. Served with the Central
India Field Force under Sir Hugh Rose, and was present at the storm and capture of the Hill Fort of Chandeiree,
siege, storm and capture of the town and fortress of Jhansi, action of Koonch, various actions befoie Calpee from
15th to 2ist May 1858, battle of Gowlowlee, capture of the city and Fort of Calpee, battle of Morar, and recapture
of the town and fortress of Gwalior (Medal with Clasp).
™ Major Roberts served as a Captain in the 4th Regiment throughout the Abyssinian campaign, and was dan¬
gerously wounded—gun-shot wound of left elbow-joint—at Arogee, in which action he commanded two Companies of
the 4th King's Own, being the liaggage Guard (mentioned in despatches. Medal).
^1 Captain G. A. Eliott served with the 33rd Regiment in the Crimea subsequently to the fall of Sebastopol,from
the 27th December 1855 to the end of the campaign (Crimean and Turkish Medals).

*^ Captain J. Grant Elliott was present at the capture of theKings and Chiefs of Pram Pram and Ningo in Oct. 1E67
(mentioned in despatches). Also present as English Commissioner at the storming and capture of the J?orts of Com-
mendah, Western Africa, in Feb. 1868 (mentioned in despatches).
«' Major Briggs served in the 9th Regiment in the Crimea from 29th November 1854, including the siege and fall
of_Sebastopol and assault of the Batteries on the i8th June (Medal with Clasp, and Turkish Medal).
"' Captain Bacon served with the 62nd Regiment in the Crimean campaign from the 13th Nov. 1854, including- the
siege and fall of Sebastopol, attack on the Quarries on the 8th June, and assaults of the Redan on the i8th June
and 8th Sept. (mentioned in despatches. Medal with Clasp, and Turkish Medal).
^2 Captain Morris served at the Head Quarters Camp before Sebastonol from April 1864 to July 1856, and has
the Crimean and Turkish Medals.
"♦ Major M'Nair served with the 79th Highlanders in the Crimea from the i6th August 1855, including the
siege and fall of Sebastopol and assault of the 8th September (Medal with Clasp, and Turkish Medal). Served
also in the ludian campaign of 1858-59, including the siege and capture of Lucknow, attack on the Fort of Rooyati,
actions of Allygunge, Bareilly, and Shahjehanpore, capture of Forts Bunniar and Mahomdie, passage of the
Gogra at Fj'zabad, capture of Rampore Russia, and subsequent operations in Oade across the Gooujtee and
Raptee rivers (Medal wiih Clasp).
'^ Captain Boyle served in the Abyssinian campaign in 1868 in command of a Division of the Transport Train
(mentioned in despatches for the " extent and value of his assistance," Medal).
-■f Captain Haynes served with the 93rd Highlanders in the Indian campaign of 1857-59, including the
relief of Lucknow by Lord Cl.yde, battle of Cawnpore on 6th Dec. 1857, pursuit to Seraighat, action of Khalee
Nuddee, occupation of Futteh'ghur, siege and capture of Lucknow, including the storming of the Begum Kotee;
Rohilcund campaign and attack on the Fort of Rooyeah, action of Allygunge, and battle of Bareilly; Oude cam¬
paign and actions of Pusgawn, Russulpore, and capture of the Fort of MitUowlie (Medal with two Clasps). Also
in the Eusofzai campaign of 1863-64 and at the Umbeyla Pass under Sir John Garvock (Medal with Clasp).
" Captain Spiller commanded a Company of the 65th Regiment during the war of 1863-65 in Nev^ Zealand, and
was present at the attack on the working party at Williamson's Clearing, relief of Pokeno Piquet (menlAoned in
despatches), storming and capture of Pah at Rangianhia, actions at Rangiani and Huirini, and attack and capture
of Pah at Orakau (Medal).
'* Captain Barr served with the 53rd Regiment in the Indian campaign of 1858-59, including the passage of
the Goomtee and occupation of Sultanpore, passage of the Gogra at Fyzabad on 25th November, action of
Toolsepore, and minor affairs (Medal).
*" Captain Beaumont served as Aide de Camp to General Turner during the operations in Bhootan in 1865-66
(Medal with Clasp).
*' Captain Bell served with the Bombay Column of the Goa Field Force against the Dessai rebels from Feb. to
June 1858, including several skirmishes (Medal).
^^ Captain Hill served as a Midshipman in the Indian Navy in the Burmese war in 1853 (Medal with Clasp for Pegu).
^' Captain Bateman was attached to the Royal Artillery during the operations against the Taepings in the vicinity
of Shanghai from April to Oct. 1862, resulting in the taking of the stockade at Nanhsiang, capture ))y escalade of
the walled cities of Khadin, Tsinpoo, and Tsolin, the fortified town of Najow, affair at Nanhsiang, and second rapture
of Khadin. Also served as Assistant Engineer on the survey of the 30 mile circuit round Shanghai, under Lt.Colonel
C. G. Gordon, from 27th Dec. 1862 to 2nd Feb. 1863.
** Captain Richmond accompanied Sir Garnet Wolseley to the Gold Coast in September 1873 on special service,
and served throughout the Ashanti war of 1873-74. Commanded the advanced guard of Houssas at the action of
Essaman, and a company of Wood's Regiment at the reconnaissance in force of the 27th November (twice men¬
tioned in despatches, promoted to an Unattached Company, Medal with Clasp).
'^ Captain Roberts served in the campaign of i860 in the north of China (Medal).
*' Captain Wade served with the 26th Cameronians in the Abyssinian campaign in 1868 (iledal).
" Captain Taylor served with the 90th Light Infantry in Wood's Column throughout the Zulu war of 1879, and
was present in the engagements at Zungin Neck, Kambula, and Ulundi (Medal with Clasp).
*' Captain Bell served with the T4th Regimeiit in the Crimea subsequent to the fad of Sebastopol, from the
12th September 1855 to the 30th May 1856. Served in the ist West India Regiment in the Ashanti war in 1873-74
(Medal with Clasp).
^ Captain Caudwell served with the 91st Highlanders in the Zulu war of 1879 (Medal with Clasp).
'1 Captain Longley served with the 43rd Light Infantrj' in the New Zealand war of 1864-66, was present at the
actions of Maketu and Te Ranga, and served with the expeditions in the province of Taranaki (mentioned in
despatches, Medal).
'* Captain Haldane served with the Queen's Royals throughout the campaign of i860 in North China, including
the taking of Tangku, actions of the i8th and 21st September, and surrender of Pekin (Medal with two Clnsps).
'* Captain Burge served as Aide de Camp to Colonel Graham at the assault and capture of Canton on the 29th
Dec. 1857; accompanied the Force to the Peiho in June; was also present at the assault and capture of Namtow on
nth Aug. 1858 (Medal with Clasp).
"= Captain Turner served with the 50th Regiment in New Zealand from the 15th Nov. 1863 to 1866, and was pre¬
sent at the assault and capture of Rangiawhia, repulse of the enemy's attack on the camp at Nukumaru, and the
atfair ofKakamarea (Medal). Served with the 17th Regiment in the Afghan war in 1878-79, and was present at the
capture of Ali Musjid (Medal with Clasp).
"« Captain Langford served in the Hazara Campaign in 1868, including the expedition against the tribes on the
Black Mountain (Medal with Clasp).
"* Captain Vander Meulen served in the New Zealand war in 1863 (Medal). Served throughout the second phase
of the Ashanti war from the 17th December 1873, employed in the Transport Service, inuludiug the battle of
Amoaful, battle of Ordahsu, and capture of Coomassie (Medal with Clasp).
"" Captain Booth served with the loth Regiment in the Perak Expedition in 1875. Commanded the force in the
assault on the Malay Stockade of Passir Sala, and was severely wouuded (Medal with Clasp).
"" Captain Stoker served in the Ashanti war in 1873-74, including the repulse of the Ashanti army at Abrakrampa
during the 5th and 6th November 1873 (Medal).
'"^ Major Furlong was appointed to the Purveyor's Department of the Expedition which proceeded to the East
in March 1854, snd served in Turkey, Bulgaria, and the Crimea until April 1855, when he was Gazetted to the 2i8t
Fusiliers, and served with the Regiment before Sebastopol until ordered to the"Depot oa the 31st May 1855 (.Medal
with Clasp, and Turkish Medal).
