203 Lt.Colonel M'Barnet served in the 79th Highlanders throughout the Eastern campaign of 1854-55, including
th3 battles o; Alma and Balaklava, siege and fall of Sebastopol, assaults of the 18th June and 8th Sept.. expedition
to Kertch and Yenikale (Medal with three Clasps, 5th Class of the Medjidie, and Turkish Medal). Served in the In-
dian campaign of 1858-59, including the siege and capture of Lucknow (Brevet of Major, Medal with Clasp).
205 Lt.Colonel P. M'Pherson served with the 17th Regiment in the Crimea from the 6th Sept. 1855, including the
siege and fall of Sebastopol and assault of the Redan on the 8th Sept. 1855; was also at the bombardment and
surrender of Kinbonrn (Medal with Clasp, and Turkish Medal).
207 Lt.Colonel P. MacDonald 6erved in the Turkish Contingent at Kertch, first as Brigade Major and afterwards
in command of a Regiment (Turkish Medal).
208 Lt.Colonel P. J. MacFarlane served in the Sutlej campaign of 1845-46 in the 9th Lancers, including the battle
of Sobraon (Medal). He served also in the PuDJaub campaign of 1848-49, and was present at the passage of the
Chenab at Ramnuggur, and battles of Chillianwallah and Goojerat (Medal with two Clasps).
211 Sir F. D. Maclean served with the 13th Hussars in the Eastern campaign of 1854, including the battle of Alma
and siege of Sebastopol (Medal with two Clasps, and Turkish Medal).
216 Lt.Colonel Manners served throughout the Burmese war of 1852-53, and was present with the 51st Light In-
fantry on board the E.I.C. steam-frigate Ferocz at the attack and destruction of the enemy's batteries and stockades
on the Rangoon river on the nth April 1852; on the following day commanded the skirmishers that covered the
disembarkation and advance of the storming party at the capture of the White House Redoubt ; at the final assault
and taking of Rangoon he commanded the Escort of the Major General Commanding, and at the storm and capture
of Rangoon. Was appointed Brigade Major to the 1st Madras Brigade in Sept. 1852, and was present at the en-
gagement on the Heights of Prome (Medal with Clasp for Pegu).
217 Lt.Colonel Mansergh served with the 6th Regt. in the Kaffir war from the attack in the Boomah Pass 24th Dec
1850, to the conclusion of the war in 1853 (Medal) . Was placed by Sir Harry Smith in command of the isolated post
of Fort White in the enemy's country on the 28th Dec. 1850 ; caused the post to be stockaded, and with his party of
120 men defended it on the 3rd January 1851 against a force of 1,000 Kaffirs under Sandilly, Auta, and other chiefs
who were defeated with severe loss, for which service he and his garrison were complimented in General Orders.
Was afterwards present at both affairs at the Waterkloof, and commanded the Regiment at the first attack.
219 Lt.Colonel W. G. Margesson served with the 56th Regiment in the Crimea from the 25th Aug. 1855, including
the siege and fall of Sebastopol (Medal with Clasp, Knight of the Legion of Honor, and Turkish Medal).
223 Lt.Colonel B. B. Mauleverer served with the 88th Regiment in the Crimea from 12th July 1855, including the
siege and fall of Sebastopol, and was severely wounded at the attack of the Redan on the 8th September (Medal
with Cla.sp, Brevet of Major, and Turkish Me HI). Served also in the Indian campaign of 1857-58, including the
action at Bhognapore, fall of Calpee, action of Jamoo, and capture of the fort of Birwah — mentioned in despatches
(Medal with Clasp).
224 Colonel R.F.Meysey- Thompson served as Adjutant of the 2nd Battalion Rifle Brigade throughout the second
phase of the Ashanti war in 1874, including the battle of Amoaful, battle of Ordahsu and capture of Coomassie

231 Lt.Colonel Frederick Miller served with the 80th Regiment in the Burmese war of 1852-53 (Medal with Clasp for
Pegu). Served in Turkey and the Crimea in 1855-56 with the Turkish Contingent in command of the 1st Regiment
of Intantry (Brevet of Major, 4th Class of the Medjidie, and Turkish Medal). Served in India during the mutiny
in 1858-59 ; present in all the actions in which the 80th Regiment was engaged (twice mentioned in despatches,
Medal). Served also with the 80th Regiment in the Expedition against Bhootan in 1865 (Medal).
232 Lt.Colonel James Miller served with the 1 ith Hussars in the Crimea from 29th July to 19th August 1855 (Medal
with Clasp for Sebastopol, and Turkish Medal).
233 Lt.Colonel Thomas Miller served in the 40th Regt. at the capture of Manora and surrender of Kurrachee, Lower
Scinde, in Feb. 1839. He served with the 10th Regt. in the Punjaub campaign of 1848-49, including the whole of the
siege operations before Mooltan and surrender of the fortress ; was Major of Brigade at the repulse cf the enemy's
night attack on the British Camp at Muttee Thol on 17th Aug. ; commanded the Reserve of the Regt. at the storm-
ing of the Heights before Mooltan on 27th Dec. 1848 ; was afterwards present at the battle of Goojerat (Medal with
two Clasps).
234 Lt.Colonel C. Milligan served with the 39th Regiment at the siege and fall of Sebastopol in 1855, and at the
attacks of the r8th June and 8th Sept. (Medal with Clasps, 5th Class of the Medjidie, and Turkish Medal).
236 Lt.Colonel W. H. Moffatt served with the 19th Regiment during the latter part of the Crimean campaign
from 8th Sept. 1855 (Medal with Clasp, and Turkish Medal). Served against the hill tribes of Sikkim during the
close of i860, and was twice in command of Patrols engaged with the enemy. Served in the Hazara campaign in
1868, including the expedition against the tribes on the Black Mountain. ,
237 Lt.Colonel Mollan served in the Indian campaign of 1857-59, commauded the 75th Regiment with Outram s
Force at Alumbagh from Dec. 1857 to Feb. 1858, including repulse of attacks on 12th and 16th Jan. and minor affairs.
Served as Brigade Major with the Rifle Brigade at the siege and capture of Lucknow, and actions of Koorsee,
Baree, Simree, Nawabgunge (horse killed by round-shot), and Sultanpore, operations terminating in the passage
of the Goomtee on 28th Aug., action at Dooadpore and capture of the enemy's guns, surrender of the forts of
Ameethie and Shunkapore (frequently mentioned in despatches, Medal with Clasp, Brevet of Lt.Colonel,
and CB.)
2 4- Lt.Colonel W. Mosse served with the 26th Cameronians in Abyssinia in 1868 (Medal).
243 Lt.Colonel John Murray served with the Grenadier Guards in the Crimea from 29th Dec. 1854, including the
siege and fall of Sebastopol (Medal with Clasp, and Turkish Medal).
244 Lt.Colonel Naylor served with the 8th Hussars in the Crimea from the 29th April 1855, including the siege and
fall of Sebastopol, and battle of the Tchernaya (Medal with Clasp, and Turkish Medal).
246 Lt.Colonel Neville served in the Eastern campaign of 1854, and up to 1st Aug. 1855, as Aide de Camp to Sir
Richard England, including the battles of Alma and Inkerman (mentioned in despatches), and siege of Sebastopol
(Brevet of Major, Medal with three Clasps, Knight of the Legion of Honor, 5th Class of the Medjidie, and Turkish
Medal).
247 Lt.Colonel W. Newbigging served with the 2nd Battalion Manchester Regiment throughout the Egyptian
war of 1882 (Medal, and Khedive's Star). .
243 Lt.Colonel J. P. Nolau brought the "A" Battery Steel Mounted Ordnance from England, and was most
energetic in getting it into order previous to the arrival of No. 5 Battery 21st Brigade ; and served throughout the
Abyssinian campaign from December 1867 as Adjutant to Colonel Milwa' d, and was present in the action of Arogee
and capture of Magclala (mentioned in despatches, and Medal).
251 Lt.Colonel V. O'Connor served as Acting Adjutant of the 80th Regiment with the Left Attack during the
Bhootan Expedition in 1865 (Medal with Clasp).
235 Lt.Colonel Edmund Palmer served in the Indian campaign of 1857-59, and commanded a field battery of Royal
Artillery with Whitlock's field division in the action at Bandah, action at Chitrakote with Carpenter's force, and
defeat of a body of the Gwalior Contingent at Koreri. Right hand partially disabled through exposure to the sun
during the hot tveather campaign of 1858 (four times mentioned in despatches, Brevet of Major, Medal with Clasp).
260 Lt.Colonel J. Pevton served as an Engineer Officer on the Peshawur Frontier in 1854-55, and remodelled the Forts
of Michnee, Shubkudder, and Abozai, between the Khyber Pass and Cabool river, in front of an enemy, his men
having on more than one occasion been shot down at their work, and his predecessor Lieut. Bulnois of the Bengal
Engineers killed in discharge of that duty ; was present at every engagement which took place with the Hill Tribes
during the above period. Received the thanks of Government for special services on the frontier ot Thibet. Served
during the Indian mutiny of 1857-58 and narrowly escaped falling into the hands of the Sealkote mutineers at the
engagement 011 the Rave'e under General Nicholson ; was present at the Peshawur outbreak as 2nd in Command 01 .
