691 Colonel W. A. J. Wallace served in the Afghan war of 1878-80 as a Field Engineer with the Koorum Column,
and superintended the movement by rail of Sir Donald Stewart's Division in November 1878 over 300 miles of the
newly opened Indus \" alley railway between Mooltan and Sukkur (received the thanks of the Commander in
Chief in India, Medal). Served in the Egyptian war of 1882 in charge of the railway operations, and was present
at the battle of Tel-el-Kebir (mentioned in despatches, Brevet of Lt.Colonel, Medal with Clasp, 4th Class of the
