397 Colonel William Livesay served in the suppression of the Indian Mutiny from Dec. 1857 to Jan. i860,
including actions at Sahao and Puttrai (Medal). Also served in the New Zealand war in 1864-65, including
expeditions in the province of Taranaki and in command of outposts, destroying manv Pahs and fortified villages
(Medal).
398 Colonel R. V. Lloyd served with a field force against the Naikra Bheels in the Rewa Kanta in November
1858 ; also served with field force in pursuit of the rebel army under Tantia Topee in Guzerat— wounded (Medal) .

399 Colonel W. R. Lluellyn served throughout the Abyssinian campaign from the 13th Dec. 1867 and commanded

402 Colonel Joseph Logan served with the 44th Regiment at the siege of Sebastopol from 7th January to rst July
1855, and was severely wounded in the attack on the 18th June (Medal with Clasp, and Turkish Medal).
103 Colonel F. Longfield accompanied the force under Major R. S. Baynes which surprised the garrison and
secured the Fort and magazine of Phillour on the Sutlej on the 12th and 13th May 1857 '• a l s0 served at the siege
of Delhi and repulse ol sorties on 9th 14th 18th and 23rd July, and capture of four guns on 12th August 1857 ;
afterwards present in the action of Dilkoosha and relief of Lucknowunder Lord Clyde, the affairof 2nd and action
of 6tb Dec. at Cawnpore, and action of Khudagunj, also served in the Oude campaign of 1858-59 as Brigade
Quarter Master to Brigadier Hale's Force, and was present at the attack and capture of the Fort and town of
Sandee (Medal with two Clasps).
405 Colonel C. M.Longmore accompanied the force under General Wheeler towards Jummooim846. Served with
the right column of the Bhootan field force under Brigadier General Richardson in 1865-66, and was present at the
capture of Suleekah, and with the advance thence to the Moonas Bridge where the guns that fell into the enemy's
hands were surrendered (Medal with Clasp).
406 Colonel C. O. Lord was present in pursuit of the Gwalior rebels under Tantia Topee, the Rao Saheb, and the
Nawab of Banda in June July and August 1858 ; and the action at Sanganeer on the 8th, and at the battle of the
Bunass on the 14th of August 1858 (Medal with Clasp).
407 Colonel J. R. Lovett landed with the 48th Regiment in the Crimea on the 21st April 1855 and served at the
siege and fall of Sebastopol, and was on detached duty in the Dockyard from 14th January to 74th ^farch 1856
(Medal with Clasp, 5th Class of the Medjidie, and Turkish Medal).
408 Colonel R. F. Lowis served throughout the operations of the expedition of 1863 against the tribes on the
North-West Frontier of India (Medal with Clasp) .
409 Colonel H. M. Lowry served during the New Zealand war of 1860-61 (Medal). Served with the 1st Battalion
12th Foot in the Afghan war in 1879-80, and was present at the engagement in Besud (mentioned in despatches.
Medal).
411 Colonel A.M. Lys was employed in suppressing the insurrection in the Pariah Kimedy district in 1856 and 1857.

Highlanders throughout the Egyptian war of 18S2, and was present at the battle of Tel-el-Kebir (mentioned m

415 Colonel C. W. M'Niell served in the Eastern campaign in 1855, and was present at the siege of Sebastopol
(Medal with Clasp, and Turkish Medal).
416 Colonel J. G. M'Rae served with the 23rd Bombay Native Infantry in Khandeish in 1858. Served in the
Abyssinian war in 186S, and was present at the action of Arogee and at the storming of Magdala (Medal).
417 Colonel C. E. Maeaulay served in the Indian Mutiny campaign of 1858-59, including the capture of forts-
Amathee and Shunkerpore, action of Doondiakiera, and capture of the fort of Omeria (Medal). Served with the
1st Sikh Cavalry throughout the campaign of i860 in China, including the action of Sinho (severely wounded),
capture of the Taku Forts, actions of Chankiawhan and Palichau, and surrender of Pekin (mentioned in des-
patchess, Medal with two Clasps).
418 Colonel J. Macdongnll served/with the Burmese Expedition in 1886 (Medal with Clasp).
419 Colonel W. C. MacDougall served in the Puniaub campaign of 1S48-49, and was present at the siege an<3
surrender of Mooltan — wounded (Medal with Clasp).
420 Colonel H. G. MacGregor proceeded on special service to South Africa in November 1878, and served in the
Zulu war of 1879, first as 2nd Staff Officer to Colonel Pearson's Column including the engagement at Inyezane,
and afterwards as Brigade Major of the ist Brigade ist Division (twice mentioned in despatches, Brevet of Major,
Medal with Clasp). Went to South Africa on special service in January 1881, and served in the Boer war of 1881
under Sir Evelyn Wood as Deputy Assistant Adjutant and Quarter Master General. Served in the Egyptian war
of 1882 as Deputy Assistant Adjutant and Quarter Master General on the Base and Lines of Communication
(mentioned in despatches, Brevet of Lt.Golonel, Medal, 4th Class of the Osmanieh, and Khedive's Star). Served
in the Soudan campaign in 1885 as Assistant Adjutant and Quarter Master General, Base and Lines of Com-
munications, Suakin Expeditionary Force (mentioned in despatches, Clasp).
422 Colonel John Mackenzie served in the Eastern campaign of 1854-55, including the battles of Alma and
Inkermau, sortie of 26th October, siege and fall of Sebastopol (Medal -with three Clasps, and Turkish Medal).
423 Colonel W. C. Mackinnon served with the 87th Fusiliers in Bengal throughout the Indian mutiny (Medal).
455 Colonel E. H. D. Macpherson served with the 93rd Highlanders in the Crimea from the 14th July 1855,
including the siege and fall of Sebastopol (Medal with Clasp, and Turkish Medal). Served also the Indian
campaign of 1857-59, including the relief of Lucknow by Lord Clyde, battle of Cawnpore on 6th Dec. 1857, and
pursuit to Seraighat. action of Khudagunge, siege and fall of Lucknow, attack on the Fort of Rooyah, actions at
Allygunge and Bareilly, campaign in Oude, and attack on Fort Methowlie (Medal with two Clasps). Served in
the Eusofzie campaign of 1863-64, and at the Umbeyla Pass under Sir John GarvoC-k (Medal with Clasp).
426 Colonel J. R. Magrath served as a volunteer with His Highness the Nizam's Troops in the affair at Bhuddrachel-
lum on the 9th June 1849. Served in the second Burmese war and present at the operations near Donabew — wounded
on the left side while leading Infantry to the attack of the stockade on 19th March 1853 — Commanded the Artillery out
of action the same day (Medal with Clasp for Pegu) . As Political Officer accompanied an expedition against Kookie
in 1861. While in civil charge of the Eastern Frontier of Bengal attacked and defeated with severe loss a large force
of Kookies which has quieted the tribes ever since. Mentioned in despatches, and received the thanks of Govern-
ment on every occasion of being under fire.
428 Colonel R. T. Maillard served in the Boer war of 18S1 under Sir Evelyn Wood as Brigade Major of the
Cavalry Brigade.
429 Colonel W. C. S. Mair served throughout the New Zealand war of 7860-61, including the capture of the
Pahs at Kihihi, capture of Matarikoriko, relief and repulse of the night attack on No. 3 Redoubt, action of Huir-
angi, and skirmish in front of Te Arei. Served during the first part of the Waikato campaign, also as Adjutant
of the Flying Column during the war of 1863-66 (Medal).
430 Colonel Eardley Maitland served throughout the operations with Havelock's Column in 1857, including the
actions of Futtehpore, Aoung, Pandoo Nuddee, Cawnpore, Oonao, Buseerutgunge (first and second), Boorbeake-
chowkee, Mungawara, and Alumbagh, relief and defence of the Residency at Lucknow, with Outram's Force in
the Alumbagh from Jan. to March 1858, siege and capture of Lucknow, and actions at Selimpore and Sundeela in
the ensuing Oude campaign iMedal with three Clasps, and a year's service). Was appointed a military attache
to the British Embassy at Constantinople during the Russo-Ttirkish war in 1877, and was with the Head Quarters
of the Turkish forces at. the defence of the Shipka Pass and at other places.
43 ' Colonel E. D. Mai elm served -with the 23rd Company throughout the Indian Mutiny, including the action of
Futtehpore, relief of Lucknow, battle of Cawnpore, affair of Seraighat, capture of Lucknow (mentioned in
despatches), capture of Rooya. Allygunge, and Bareilly (Medal with two Clasps).
432 Colonel G.Malcolm served with the 34th Regiment in the Indian campaign in 1857-59, including the actions
at Cawnpore on 26th, 27th and 28th Nov. 1857, siege and capture of Lucknow, and defeat of the rebels at Bootwul
(Medal with Clasp).
