ander Colonel Wallace at various periods during the advance on Magdala; as Acting Brigade Major of the
iBrigade under Brigadier Wilby, after the capture of Magdala, during the illness of tne Brigade Major ; was
appointed Staff Odicer of the 3rd Column on the commencement of the march down country, and served as such
and as Assistant Quarter Master General till it was broken up previous to embarkation.
376 Colonel E. H. Langmore served with the force under General "Wheeler in the Punjaub campaign of 1848-49
and was present at the capture of the two Sikh Forts, Ramnuggur and Muraree (Medal) . Formed one of the Gar-
rison which defended the Residency of Lucknow from the 30th June to the 22nd Nov. 1857, and commanded an
(important outpost during that period, and was mentioned in Major General Inglis' despatch in the following terms : —
" Lieut. Langmore with the remnant of his corps (the 71st Native Infantry) held a very exposed position between
the Hospital and the Water Gate. This gallant and deserving young soldier and his men were entirely without
shelter from the weather both by night and day." He was afterwards present with Lord Clyde'sforce which drove
<t,he rebel Gwalior Contingent from Cawnpore (Medal with Clasp, a year's service, and Brevet of Major).
377 Colonel H. Langtry served with the 3rd Dragoon Guards in the Abyssinian campaign in 1868, and was
present at the storming and capture of Magdala (Medal). Served with the 15th Hussa>-s in the Candahar Column
in the Afghan war of 1878-80, including the advance to Khelat-i-Ghilzai ; commanded a detached squadron of
lis Regiment at the affair in the Gtalo Pass, 4th January 1879 ; also served with the Thull-Chotiali Field Force
runder Brigadier General Biddulph, and accompanied Major General Phayre in his march to Candahar (Medal).
Served in the Boer war of 188 1 with the 15th Hussars.
373 Colonel B. M. Larminie served in the Afghan war in 1879-80, and was present in the engagement at Ahmed
Kheyl (mentioned in despatches) and Urzoo near Ghuznee (Brevet of Major, Medal with Clasp).
379 Colonel W. R. Lascelles served with the Rifle Brigade in the Indian campaign of 1857-58 and was present at
■the siege and capture of Lucknow (Medal with Clasp). Served with tnj ist Sikh Irregular Cavalry throughout
the China campaign of i860, including the capture of the Taku Forts, actions of Sinho and Tangchow, and
.■surrender at Pekin (Medal with two Clasps). Serve 1 with the Ride Brigade in the war on the North-West
Frontier of India in 1864, and was present at the action at Shubkudder (Ma lal with Clasp). Served with the
Nile Expedition in 18S4-85, during the latter part of the operations as Assistant Adjutant and Quartermaster
•General (Medal with Clasp).
330 Colonel A. F. Laughton served with the Burmese Expedition in 1885-86 in charge of the Commissariat Depart
ment (received the thanks of the Government and of tne Commander in Chief in India, meitijned in despatches
CB„ and Medal with Clasp).
351 Colonel J. D. Dyson-Laurie served with the 34th Regiment in the Crimea from the 10th August 1855, including
tShe siege and fall of Sebastopol, and was severely wounded at the assault of the Redan on the 8th September, was
also wounded on a former occasion (Medal with Clasp, and Turkish Medal). Served also in the Indian campaigns in
-858-59, including the capture of Meeangunge, siege and capture of Lucknow, relief of Azimghur, defeat of the
arebels at Bootwul, and affair at Bhowanie (Medal with Clasp). Served in Afghanistan in 1878-79 superintending
.communications on the Khyber line (Medal).

of the Tchernaya (mentioned in despatches, Medal with Clasp, Brevet of Major, Sardinian' and Turkish Medals
and 5th Class of the Medjidie).
394 Colonel H. A. Lewes was present at the outbreak of the mutiny at Meerut on the 10th May 1857, and was
severely wounded. Served with the Meerut Volunteer Horse raised for service in that district, and afterwards
with 7th Punjaub Infantry at the actions of Gungeree and Puttiallee, attack on and reoccupation of Mynpoorie
also at Bungaon, assault and capture of Forts Dehain and Tirroul, operations of Brigadier Kelly's Force in the'
Terai, and forcing of tne enemy's position in the Jurwah Pass, lower Nepaul Range (Medal). Served as Adjutant
30th Punjaub Infantry during the Bhootal campaign in 1864-65, and was engaged at the capture' of Forts Dalimkote
and Chamoorchee, and at the Bala Pass, and Nagoh stockades (Medal with Clasp). Served in the Afghan war in
1879-80 with the Koorum Valley Force (Medal).
