885 War Services of the Officers of the Militia Infantry.
Kent Regiment (Medal with Clasp, and Khedive's Star). Served with the Burmese Expedition in 1886-87 (men-
tioned in desoatches, Medal with Clasp).
2 Captain D'Aeth served in the Boer war of 1881 and took part in the defence of Pretoria.
3 Lieut. Vaughan served with the Burmese Expedition in 1886-87 (mentioned in despatches, Medal with Clasp).
Cheshire Regiment,.— ' r,ord Loch served with the 3rd Bengal Cavairy in the Sutlej campaign in 1846 ami
was present at the battle of Sobraon (Medal). Was sent early in 1854 by the Foreign Office, under General Beat-
son, to the Danubian Provinces to organize the Turkish Irregular Cavalry, with rank of Lt.Colonel in the Turkish
service; crossed to the Crimea, and was invalided shortly after the battle of Alma (Turkish Medal). Attached
to Head Quarters of Commander in Chief in China in 1857 and present at the operations before antt
capture of Canton. Was on board the gunboat Bastard at the capture of the Peiho and upper forts in 1858.
Was attached to the head quarters of Sir Hope Grant in 1S60 and present at the various operations previous to and
sit the capture of Sinho, 'i'angku, and the Taku forts (Medal with three Clasps). Accompanied the Earl of
Elgin with '.lie army on advance on Pekin, and was captured with Mr. Parkes and sent prisoner to Pekin; on
release brought home the Convention of Pekin and ratified treaty of Tien-tsin, and made CB.
2 Colonel France Hayhurst served in the Eastern campaign in 1854-55, including the battle of the Alma and
siege of Sebastopol (Medal with two Clasps, and Turkish Medal).
Welsh Fusiliers. — 1 Lis-ut. Evans on served in the operations against Chief Nauna on the Benin River, West
Coast of Africa, in 1894 with the forces of the Niger Coast Protectorate (Medal with Clasp).
South Wales Borderers.— 1 Colonel Thomas served with the 2nd Dragoon Guards the Oude campaign of
1S5S-59, including the assault and capture of Birwah, and Trans-Gogra affairs at Bungaon (Medal).
King's Own Scottish Borderers.— 1 Lieut, ilowe served in the Afghan war of 1878-80 with the 25th King's Own
Borderers with the Peshawur Valley Field Force under Lieut. General Maude, and. afterwards with the Klvyber
Line Force under Lieut. General Bright (Medal 1.
Scottish Rifles.— 1 Lt.Colonel Johnstone served with the'Bechuanaland Expedition under Sir Charles Warren
in 18S4-85 on the Head Quarters Staff, and raised upwards of 100 men for the 2nd Mounted Rifles (Carrington's
Horse).
3 Captain Wishart served in the Zulu war in 1879, and was present in the engagements at Zur.gin Nek and
Kambula and at the battle of Ulundi (Medal with Clasp).
Inniskilling Fusiliers. — '- Colonel Barton served in the Abyssinian war in 1867-68 with the 33rd Regiment,,
and was present at the capture ofMagdala (Medal).
Worcestershire Regiment. — ] Colonel Norbury served as Captain in the 6th Dragoon Guards in the Crimean
campaign from 2nd July to 4th Sept. 1855, and was present at the battle of the Tchernas'a and siege of Sebastopol
(Medal with Clasp, anu Turkish Medal).
2 Major Holden served in the operations on the Soudan frontier in 1889, first as a volunteer with the British.
Brigade under Major General the Hon. R. H. de Montmorency, and subsequently in company with Colonel
Wodehouse, Commanding Egyptian Infautry.
4 Captain Young served in the Ashanti war in 1873-74 with the 42nd Royal Highlanders, and was present in
the action at Amoaful (slightly wounded), the capture and destruction of Becquah, the battle of Ordahsu, and at
the capture of Coomassie (Medal with Clasp). Served in the Egyptian war of 1SS2 with the 1st Battalion of the-
Black Watch, and was present at the battle of Tel-el- Kebir (mentioned in despatches, Medal with Clasp, and
Khedive's Star) ; with the expedition to the Soudan under Sir Gerald Graham in 1884 with the 1st Battalion of
the Black Watch, including the engagements at El Teb and Temai (two Clasps); and with the Nile Expe-
dition in 1884-85 with the 1st Battalion of the Black Watch, and took part in the operations of the River Column
under Major General Earle, including the action of Kirbekan (mentioned in despatches, promoted Lieutenant,
two Clasps).
East Surrey Regiment.— 1 Colonel Haines served in the New Zealand war of 1863-66 (Medal).
Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry.— 1 Major Lloyd served with the 2nd Battalion ot the Dake of Cornwall's
Light Infantry throughout the Egyptian war of 1882, and was present at the reconnaissance in force from Alex-
andria on the 5th August, in the engagements at El Magfar and Tel-el-Mahuta, in the two actions atKassasin,
and at the battle of Tel-el-Kebir (Medal with Clasp, and Khedive's Star). Served in the Nile Expedition in 1884-
85 with the 2nd Battalion cf the Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry, and took part in the operations of the-
Advance Column under Major General Earle (Clasp).
3 Lieut. Eary served in the Egyptian war of 1882, and was present at the reconnaissance of Kafr Dowar, in
the engagements at El Magfar and Tel-el-Mahuta, at the two actions at Kassasin, and at the battle of Tel-el-
Kebir (Medal with Clasp, and Khedive's Star); and in the Nile Expedition of 1884-85 with the River Column
(Clasp).
West Riding Regiment. — l Captain FitzPatrick served in the Zulu war in 1879, an( i was present in the engage-
ment at Gingindhlovu and ft the relief of Ekowe (Medal with Clasp).
Border Regiment.— 1 Captain Jones served in the Nile Expedition in 1884-85 with the 1st Battalion of the Royal
Sussex Regiment, and took part in the operations of the Desert Column under Sir Herbert Stewart, including the
action at Abu Klea and the engagement at Metammeh I Medal with two Clasps, and Khedive's Star).
3 Captain T. R. Morse served with the Burmese Expedition in 1885-87 (Medal with Clasp).
Hampshire Regiment. — l Major Powney served in the Soudan campaign in 1885 (Medal with Clasp, and
Khedive's Star).
3 Captain Hampton served in the Afghan war in 1S79-80 with the 87th Regiment, and was present in the engage-
ment at Charasiah on the 6th October 1879. and in the operations round Cabul in December 1S79, including the
engagements at Mir Karez and the Asmai Heights and the investment of Sherpore (Medal with two Ciasps).
Served in the Burmese Expedition in 1885-87 with the 2nd Battalion Hampshire Begiment including the sur-
render of Mandalay (Medal with Clasp).
Dorsetshire Regiment. — [ Lord Digby served in the expedition to the Soudan in 1885 with the 1st Battalion of
the Coldstream Guards, and was present m the engagement at Hasheen, at that near Tofrek on the 24th March,
and at the destruction of Temai (Medal with Clasp, and Khedive's Star).
South Lancashire Regiment.— 1 Major Tarbet served with the expedition against the Jebns, Lagos, in 1892
(mentioned in despatches. Medal with Clasp).
Black Watch. — ' Lord Alexander Kennedy served with the 1st Battalion Black Watch in the Egyptian war of
1882, and was present at the battle of Tel-el-Kebir (Medal with Clasp, and Khedive's Star). Served in the Soudan
Expedition in 1884 with the 1st Battalion Black Watch, and was present in the engagement at El Teb and Temai
(two Clasps). Served in the Nile Expedition in 1884-85 with the 1st Battalion of the tilack Watch, took part with
the Rivei Column under Major General Earle, and was present in the engagement at Kirbekan (mentioned in
despatches. Brevet of Major, two Clasps).
3 Major W. A. Scott served in the Egyptian war of 1882 with the Cameron Highlanders (Medal, and Khedive's-
Star); also served in the expedition to the Soudan in 1384 as Aide de Camp to Sir Gerald Graham and Press Censor
to the Forces, and was present in the engagements at El Teb and Temai (mentioned in despatches, two Clasps).
Essex Regiment. — ' Colonel Holroyd served with the 34th Regiment in the Crimea from the 10th Aucust 1855
including the siege and fall of Sebastopol and assault of the Redan on the 8th Septe ruber ( Medal withClasp, and
Turkish Medal). Also in the Indian campaigns in 1857-59, including the actions at Cawnpore on the 26th, 27th, and
28th (wounded) Nov. 1857, capture of Meeangunge, siege and capture of Lucknow, relief of Azimghur (was Staff
Officer to the Azimghui column in the wint°r of 1858-9), and defeatof the rebels at Bootwul (Medal with Clasp).
5 Major Fleming -served with the Nile Expedition in 1884-85 as Staff Captain on the Head Quarters Staff
(mentioned in despatches, Brevet of Major, Medal with Clasp, and Khedive's Star).
6 Captain Colvin served in the Nile Expedition in 1884-85 with the 2nd Battalion of the Essex Regiment (Medui
with Clasp, and Khedive's Star).
Derbyshire Regiment.- 1 Captain Beresford served in the Afghan war of 1878-S0 with the 9th Lancers j
accompanied Sir Frederick Roberts in the march to Candahar, and was present) at the battle of Candahar
(Medal with Clasp, and Bronze Decoration). Also served in the expedition against the Murri Tribe in 1880.
