( subsequently on the Staff of Sir Hope Grant; was present at the capture of Lucknow (Victoria Cross, Brevet of
I Major, Medal with Clasp) : together with Corporal W. Nash and Private D. Hawkes, was awarded the UlE " for
I conspicuous gallantry at Lucknow on the nth March 1858. Captain Wilmot's Company was engaged with a
I large body of the enemy, near the Iron Bridge. That Officer found, himself at the end of a street with only four
I of his men, opposed to a considerable body. One of the four was shot through both legs, and became utterly
m helpless ; the two men lifted him up, and although Private Hawkes was severely wounded, he carried him for
|. a considerable distance, exposed to the fire of the enemy, Captain Wilmot firing with the men's rifles, and
ll covering the retreat of the party."
302 Major John Wilson served with the 42nd Highlanders in the Crimean campaign of 1854-55, including the
il battle of Balaklava, expedition to Kertch and Yenikale, siege and fall of Sebastopol (Medal with two Clasps, 5th
B Class of the Medjidie, and Turkish Medal). Served also the campaign of 1857-5S against the mutineers in India,
I including the actions at Cawnpore (6th Dec. 1857), Seraighat.andKudygunge, siege and fall of Lucknow and assault
1 of the Martiniere and Banks' Bungalow, attack on the Port of Rooyah, action at Allygunge, attack and capture of
I] Bareilly (Medal with Clasp) .
303 Major G. Windham served with the Rifle Brigade in the Eastern campaign, including the battles of Alma and
i! Balaklava, and siege of Sebastopol until April 1855 (Medal with three Clasps, and Turkish Medal). Served also
I during the Indian campaign of 1857-58, including the action of Cawnpore, siege and capture of Lucknow, battle of
li Nawabgunge, and taking of Fort Oomerea (Medal with Clasp).
305 Major J. J. Wood served with the 18th Royal Irish in the Burmese war of 1852 (Medal with Clasp for Pegu).
II Served with the 82nd Regiment in the Crimea from the 2nd September 1855, including the siege and fall of Sebas-
H topol (Medal with Clasp, and Turkish Medal).

307 Major W. W. Worswick served with an expeditionary force against the Indians of Yucatan in April and May
1861. Also in suppression of the disturbance in the Northern district.
305 Colonel W. A. Wynter served with the 33rd Regiment throughout the Abyssian campaign of 1867-68, and
was present at the storming and capture of Magdala (Medal). Served in the Ashanti war, and was present at
the capture of Adubiassie (Medal with Clisp). Served in the Afghan war in 1879-80, and was present in the
engagement at Charasiah on the 6th October 1879, an( i m ^ ae operations round Cabul in December 1S79, including
the investment of Sherpore (mentioned in despatches) ; accompanied Sir Frederick Roberts in the march to
Candahar, and was present at the battle of Candahar (mentioned iu despatches, Brevet of Major, Medal with
three Clasps, and Bronze Decoration).
309 MajorYard served in the 32nd Regiment at the first and second siege operations before Mooltan, including the
attack on the enemy's position in front of the advanced Trenches on 12th Sept. 1848, the action of Soorjkoond, storm
and capture of the city, and surrender of the fortress ; also present at the surrender of the Fort and garrison of
Chenio te, and at the battle of Goojerat (Medal with two Clasps) .

1 Captain William Maloney served the Sutlej campaign of 1845-46 with the Soth Regiment, including the battles
of Moodkee, Ferozeshah, and Sobraon (Medal and two Clasps). Served also in the Burmese war of 1852-53,
including the capture of Martaban, operations before Rangoon and capture of Prome (Medal with .Clasp for
Pegu). Served in the Indian campaign of 1858-59, including the affairs of Hurra, Simree, Bera, Dhoondoakeira,
and Busingpore (Medal with Clasp).
2 Captain Pickworth served the Eastern campaign of 1854-55 with the Sth Hussars, including the reconnais-
sance to Silistria, battles of Alma, Balaklava, Inkerman, and the Tchernaya, affairs of Bulganak and M'Kenzie's
Farm, siege and fall of Sebastopol (Medal with four Clasps, French War Medal, and Turkish Medal) . Served in the
Indian campaigns of 1858-59 and was present at the capture of Kotah, reoccupation of Chundaree, battle of Kota ke
Serai, capture of Gwalior, and action of Boordah (Medal with Clasp) .
3 Lt.Colonel Saunders served at Sierra Leone and the Gambia from 1836 to. 1841 ; was present with the
expeditionary force in the interior in 1837 ; employed on a special mission to convey despatches to the French at
Senegal in 1838; commanded the troops at a riot at the Gambia in 1838, and whilst at night patrolling captured a
gun. Served in the Indian mutiny, and was mentioned in despatches as having distinguished himself, and for most
devoted and gallant conduct (Brevet nf Major, and Medal).
* Major R. V. Dickens served with the 64th Regiment in the Persian campaign of 1856-57, including the storm
and capture of Reshire, surrender of Bushire, and bombardment of Mohumrah (lledal with Clasp). Served in
Bengal and N. W. Province in suppressing the mutiny in 1857-58 ; present with Havelock's Column in the actions
of Futtehpore, Aoung, Pandoo Nuddee, Cawnpore (wounded), and Bithoor ; in an affair at Shirazpore under
Brigadier Wilson, and was Assistant Engineer during the defence of Cawnpore (Medal).
6 Captain H. D. Marsh served wiih the 82nd Regiment in the Crimea from the 2nd September 1855, including
the siege and fall of Sebastopol (Medal with Clasp, and Turkish Medal). Served also in the N. W. Provinces in
suppressing the Indian Mutiny in 1857-59, an( ^ was present as Orderly Officer to Brigadier Watson in the opera-
tions for the relief of Lucknow and around Cawnpore— wounded, horse killed (mentioned in despatches), defeat
there of the Gwalior Contingent on 6th December 1857 by Lord Clyde, action of Kala "Nuddee, occupation of
Futtehg hur, capture of Bareilly, relief of Shahjehanpore, actions of Khankur and Bunkagaon, and affairs of
Mahomdee and Shahabad (Medal).
7 Lt.Colonel Deacon served with the 61st Regt. in the Punjaub campaign of 1848-49 ; present at the passage of the
Chenab, and in the battles of Sadoolapore, Chillianwallah, and Goojerat, and with the Field Force in pursuit of the
enemy to the Khyber Pass in March 1849 (Medal with two Clasps). Served the siege and assault (severely wounded)
of Delhi, and at the action of Nujjufghur (Breyet of Major, Medal with Clasp).
