three Officers of the Company received the thanks of the Queen and of the Commander in Chief, and also the thanks : t::
from the counties of Monmouthshire, Glamorganshire, and Breconshire. In April 1855 he was promoted to a'
Majority in the Turkish service, and served at Constantinople, Bayukdere, and the entrenched Camp at Kertch
during the winter of 1855 until the disbandment at the Anglo-Ottoman Force, and has received the 4th Class of the
Medjidie and a Lt.Colonel's commission from the Sultan.
2M Major Van Straubenzee served with the 32nd Regiment at the first and second siege operations before Mooltan
including the action of Soorjkoond ; he was severely wounded on the 27th Dec. 1S48 (Medal with Clasp). Was present
with the force under Sir Colin Campbell against the hill tribes near Peshawur in May and June 1852, in-
cluding the engagements of Nawaduad, Praamghur, and Shahkote (Medal with Kasp). Served in the Crimea
on the Staff of the Light Division from October 1855 to May 1856. Served as Brigade Major in China, and accom-
panied the expeditionary force to the North ; was present in every engagement from its landing at Pehtang to the
occupation of Pekin (mentioned in despatches. Medal with Clasps,' and Brevet of Major). Served in the suppression
of the rebellion in the North- West Territories of Canada in 1885 as Second in Command with Sir Frederic!
Middleton's Column, and commanded the Infantry Brigade at the engagement, at Batoche (mentioned in des-
patches, Medal with Clasp).
267 Major D. Stuart served at the siege and capture of Kittoor in the East Indies in Dec. 1824.
268 Major Studdert served with the 9th Lancers at the battle of Punniar on 29th Dec. 1843 (Bronze Star).

273 Major Thellusson served with the Coldstream Guards in the Crimea from 2nd May 1855, including the siege
and fall of Sebastopol (Medal with Clasp, Brevet of Major, 5th Class of Medjidie, and Turkish Medal) .
271 Major C. Thompson joined the 64th Regiment in the Persian expedition in March 1857 (Medal with Clasp)
Served in Bengal and N.W. Provinces in suppressing the mutiny in 1857-58 ; commanded the escort which safelj
conveyed the treasure from Gya to Calcutta (thanked by the Governor General in Council and by Lord Clyde)
present in the operations at Cawnpore under General Windham, defence of Cawnpore and defeat of the Gwalio;
mutineers, and action of Kala Nuddee (Brevet of Major, Medal).
275 Major E. H. Thurlow served in the Zulu war of 1879 (Medal with Clasp). Served in the Boer war of iS3i and
was present in the engagements at Lang's Nek and the Ingogo River.

277 Major Hon. F. Le Poer' Trench served in the 52nd Light Infantry during the Indian Mutiny campaign in
1857-58, including the defeat of the Seakote mutineers on the banks of the Ravee in July 1857, siege assault and
occupation of Delhi from 13th Aug. to 22nd Sept. 1857 (Medal with Clasp) . Served with the 40th Regiment in the New
Zealand war in 1S63-65, and was present at Rangariri, Waiari, and Orakau (Medal).
278 Major Trevor served with the 4th Regiment the Eastern campaign of 1854, and up to 16th Feb. 1855, including
the battles in the Crimea and siege of Sebastopol (Medal with three Clasps, and Turkish Medal).
270 Major Turner served with the 65th Regiment in New Zealand during the war of 1846, and also throughout th*
of 1860-61, and was severely wounded in the action atMahoetahi (Brevet of Major, and Medal).

sequently throughout the operations in Central India and pursuit of the rebel' forces under Tantia Topee and Rac
Sahib in 1858-59 ; commanded Detachment of the 72nd Highlanders in the action of Oodeypore (mentioned in de»
patches, Brevet of Major, Medal with Clasrj).
283 Major Walter served the Indian campaign of 1S58-59 with the 53rd Regiment, and was present at the passage
the Gogra at Fyzabad on 25th November, the affair of Bungaon, battle of Toolsepore (performed the duties of I
mounted Officer), and some minor affairs. Commanded the Left Wing of the 53rd in Sir A. Horsford's Column durinf
the latter part of the Trans-Gogra campaign — twice mentioned in despatches (Medal).
284 Sir Augustus Riversdale Warren served with the 20th Regiment in the Crimea from the 26th January 1855,
including the siege and fall of Sebastopol, and capture of Kinbourn (Medal with Clasp, 5th Class of tbe Medjidie,
and Turkish Medal). Served in the Indian campaign of 1857-58, including the actions of Chanda, Umeerpore,
and Sultanpore, siege and capture of Lucknow (wouided) subsequent operations in Oide and affairs of Potion
and Meangunge, also at Churda, and Fort of Musjeedia (Medal with Clasp).
287 Major Stephen Watson served in the Afghan war of 1878-80, and was present in the engagement at Ahmed
Kheyl — slightly wounded (mentioned in despatches, Brevet of Major. Medal with Clasp).
288 Major Way served with the 29th Regiment throughout the Punjaub campaign in 1848-49, including the passag
of the Chenab, and battles of Chillian wallah and Gooierat (Medal with two Clasns).
269 Major E. T. Webb served with the Persian expedition in 1857, including the storm and capture of Reshire
and surrender of Bushire (Medal with Clasp).
290 Major J. C. Weir served in the Kaffir war of 1851-53 (Medal) ; and with the expedition north of the Orangt

282 Major H. R. White served with the 89th Regiment in the Crimea from the 5th January 1855, including the siegi
and fall of Sebastopol, and attacks on the 18th June and 8th September (Medal with Clasp, Brevet of Major, 5K
Class of the Medjidie, and Turkish Medal).
293 Sir George S. Whitmore served in the latter part of the Kaffir war in 1847. Was in the action of Boem Plaats anc
defeat of the insurgent Boers in 1S48. Served tlu-oughout the Kaffir war of 1851-52, and was present with the 2nc
Division in nearly every affair, mcludiug the storming of the Iron Mountain. Commanded Sir Harry Smith I
escort from March to November 1851, during which time he was repeatedly employed as a Staff Officer with tni
various Columns on patrol. Acted as Major of Brigade to the 2nd Division from November 1851 to October 1852
and as Brigade Major to the Cavalry Brigade in the expedition under Sir George Cathcart, ending in the battle
Berea. He has had two horses shot under him in action, and has been repeatedly thanked in brigade and divisioi
orders, as well as in the general orders and despatches of Sir H. Smith and of Sir G. Cathcart (Medal) . Brevet
Major, Turkish Medal, and 4th Class of the Medjidie, for service with the Turkish Contingent.
295 Major Alfred E. Wilkinson served with the 9th Lancers in the Punjaub campaign of 1848-40, including tni
battles of Chillianwallah and Goojerat (Medal with two Clasps) . Also in suppression of the Indian Mutiny in 1 857-?
present at the assault and capture of Delhi, and action of Bolundshuhur, commanded a Squadron in the actions
Allyghu r, Agra, and Kanouge, present at the relief of Lucknow by Lord Clyde, and at the final siege and capture
the city, commanded a Squadron through-ut the summer campaign in Oude and Rohilcund, including actions a
Rhodamow, Allygunge, capture of Bareilly, Shajehanpore, and pursuit to Mahomdee (twice mentioned in de
snatches, Medal with three Clasps).
_298 Major R. L. Williams served with the 1st Royals in tbe Crimea from the 29th Aug. 1855, including the siege
and fall of Sebastopol, and was severely wounded on the 8th September (Medal with Clasp, and Turkish Medal)
Served the campaign of 1868 in China as D.A.Q.M.Gen., including the taking of Sinho and Tangku, actions of the i8tl
and 21st September, occupation of Tientsin, and surrender of Pekin (Brevet of Major, Medal with two Clasps).
300 Major Williamson served with the 48th Regiment in the Crimea from the 21st April 1855, including the siegt
and fall of Sebastopol (Medal with Clasp, and Turkish Medal).
