1 Sir Archibald Alison served with the 72nd Highlanders the Eastern campaign of 1855, including the expedition
to Kertch, siege and fall of Sebastopol, and attack of the 18th June (Medal with Clasp, Brevet of Major, and Turkish
Medal). Servedas Military Secretary to Lord Clyde in India during the campaign from August 1857 to March 1858,
and was severely wounded (lost left arm) at the relief of Lucknow (Brevet of Lt.Colonel, Medal with Clasp, and CB.),
Was Brigadier General of the European Brigade and Second in Command throughout the Ashanti war from
December 1873; led the Brigade at the battle of Amoaful, capture of Becqua, battle of Ordahsu, and capture of
Coomassie (thanks of Parliament, KCB., and Medal with Clasp). Served throughout the Egyptian war of 1882.
Commanded the troops in Egypt from the occupation of Alexandria until the arrival of Sir Garnet Wolseley, and
formed the entrenched position at Ramleh, thereby effectually covering Alexandria and at the same time
threatening the enemy's position. Commanded the 3rd Brigade (the Highlanders) from the arrival of Sir Garnet
Wolseley to the end of the war, and was present in the battle of Tel-el-Kebir (mentioned in despatches, received
the thanks of both Houses of Parliament, promoted Lieut. General for distinguished service in the field. Medal with
Clasp, 2nd Class of the Osmanieh, and Khedive's Star). On the termination of the war he was appointed to the
command of the British army of occupation in Egypt.
' Colonel Murray served with the 72nd Highlanders throughout the Afghan war of 1878-80 with the Kocrum,
Cabul, and Cabul-Candahar Field Forces (till April 1880 as Adjutant) ; was present at the attack and capture of the
Peiwar Kotal and in the engagement at Charasiah (mentioned in despatches), and in the operations around Cabul
In December 1879 ; accompanied Sir Frederick Roberts in the march to Candahar, and waspresentat the battle of
Candahar— severely wounded (mentioned in despatches, Brevet of Major,Medal with four Clasps, and Bronze Decora-
tion). Served in the Egyptian war of 1882 as Brigade Major Infantry Brigade Indian Contingent, and was present at
the battle of Tel-el-Kebir (Brevet of Lt.Colonel, Medal with Clasp, 4th Class of the Osmanieh, and Khedive's Star).
Served throughout the Soudan campaign in 1S85 on special service as Assistant to the Chief of the Staff, and was
present in the engagement at Hasheen and at the destruction of Temai (mentioned in despatches, Clasp) .
9 Major Hughes-Hallett served with the 72nd Highlanders from the commencement of the Afghan war in 187S
till July 1879 with the Koorum Field Force, and was present at the attack and capture of the Peiwar Kotal
and at the passage of the Chappri defile (mentioned in despatches, Medal with Clasp). Served with the 1st Bat-
talion Seaforth Highlanders in the Egyptian war of 1882, and was present in the engagement at Chalouf
(mentioned in despatches), and at the battle of Tel-el-Kebir (Medal with Clasp, and Khedive's Star). Served
with the Chitral Relief Force under Sir Robert Low in 1895 in command of the 2nd Battaliou Seaforth High-
landers, and was present in the engagement at Mamugai (mentioned in despatches, DSO. , and Medal with Clasp).
10 Major J. A. Campbell served with the 72nd Highlanders in the Afghan war from February till December 1879
with the Koorum and Cabul Field Forces, and was present in the engagement at Charasiah (Medal with Clasp).
Served with the 1st Battalion Seaforth Highlanders in the Egyptian war of 1S82, and was present at the battle of
Tel-el-Kebir (Medal with Clasp, and Khedive's Star).
15 Major Kenneth Mackenzie served with the 78th Highlanders in the Afghan war in i8?o (Medal). Served
with the Transport Detachment in Southern Afghanistan from 15th November 1879 to 14th February 1881. Served
with the Hazara Expedition in 1888 with the 2nd Battalion Seaforth Highlanders (Medal with Clasp), and with
the Hazara Expedition in 1891 (Clasp). Served with the Chitral Relief Force under Sir Robert Low in 1895 with
the 2nd Battalion Seaforth Highlanders, and was present in the engagement at Jlamugai (Medal with Clasp).
13 Major Hatton served with the 78th Highlanders in the Afghan war in 1880 (Medal). Was Orderly Officer to
the Brigadier General Commanding the 2nd Brigade Candahar Field Force from 19th December 1880 to the 21st
Maroh 1881. Served with the Chitral Relief Force under Sir Robert Low in 1895 with the 2nd Battalion Seaforth
Highlanders (Medal with Clasp).
14 Major Barlow served with the 78th Highlanders in the Afghan war in 1880 (Medal).
15 Lt.Colonel Monro served with the 72nd Highlanders throughout the Afghan war of 1878-80 with the Koorum,.
Cabul, and Cabul-Candahar Field Forces, part of the time as Regimental Transport Officer.from April 1880 as Ad-
jutant ; was present at the attack and capture of the Peiwar Kotal (wounded), and in the engagement at Charasiah

the 2nd Battalion Seaforth Highlanders (Medal with Clasp). Served with the Chitral Relief Force under Sir
Robert Low in 1895. first as Deputy Assistant Adjutant and Quarter Master General of the Lines of Communica-
tions, and afterwards as Road Commandant (mentioned in despatches, Brevet of Lt.Colonel, Medal with Clasp).
16 Major Macdonald served with the 72nd Highlanders in the Afghan war from January 1879 with the Koorum,
Cabul, and Cabul-Candahar Field Forces, including the Khost Expedition, the engagement at Charasiah, and the
operations around Cabul in December 1879 ; accompanied Sir Frederick Boberts in the march to Candahar, and
was present at the battle of Candahar (Medal with three Clasps, and Bronze Decoration). Served with the ist Battalion
