the operations in the Orange Free State, Feb. to May 1900, including the operations at Faardeberg, and the
actios at Driefontein, Karree Siding and Vet River ; and in Cape Colony, South of Orange River. 1899-1900,
including the action at Colesberg (mentioned in despatches, CB., Medal with three Clasps). H.
1094 Colonel Mellor served throughout the Afghan war of 187S-80 with the 2nd Battalion of the 8th Foot,
an was present in the operatiosn in the Koorum Valley and at the capture of the Peiwar Kotal (Medal with Clasp).
Served in South African war in 1899-1900, and took part in operations in Natal in 1899, including actions at
Reitfontein and Lombard's Kop, and in the defence of Ladysmith (mentioned in uespaches, DSO., Medal with
Clasp'.
1098 Colonel A. Davidson sewed with the 2nd Battalion 60th Rifles in the Afghan war from OctDber 1878 to
November 1880, took part in the advance on and occupation of Candahar and Khelat-i-Ghilzie, and was present in
the engagements 'at Ahmed Kheyl and Urzoo near Ghuznee (mentioned in despatches) ; served as Aide deCamp to
Sir Donald Stewart at Cabul, and accompanied Sir Frederick Roberts in the march to Candahar as Aide de Camp
to Major General Ross, and was present at the battle of Candahar (mentioned in despatches, Brevet of Major.
Medal with two Clasps, and Bronze Decoration). Served in the Marri Expedition uDder Brigadier General
MacGregor. Served in the B)er war of 1881 with the Natal Field Force on signalling duty. Served in the
Egyptian war of 1882, and was present at the battle of Tel-el-Kebir (Medal with Clasp, 5th Claiss of the Medjidie,
