South African campaign, taking part in the operations in the Orange Free State (April to May 1900), the Transvaal
(May to June 1900, July to October 1900, and November 1900), and Cape Colony in 1900, and being present at the
actions of Belmont, Euslin, Modder River, Magersfontein, Poplar Grove, Driefontein, Vet River, Zand River,
Johannesburg, Pretoria, Diamond Hill, Belfast, and Komati Poort; Lieut. Monck in addition taking part at
Paardeburg. Captain Studd and Lieuts. Campbell, Clive, Hardy, and Pryee-Jones were each mentioned in
despatches, whilst Lieut. Campbell acted as Station Staff Officer at Potchefstroom (November 1900), and Graaff
Reinet (May to December 1901I; Lieut. Darell has been Signalling Officer to the Mobile Columns since July 1901 ;
and Lieut. Baring has commanded No. 18 Armoured Train since July 1901.
83 Captain Hon. C. Heathcote-Drummond-Willoughby served in the South African war in 1809-1902, and was
present in the engagement at Belmont — slightly wounded; also took part in the operations in the Orange Free
State (February to May 1900), the operations in the Transvaal (May to June 1900, July to October 1900. and
November 1900), and in Cape Colony in 1900. being present at the actions of Poplar Grove, Drief litem, Vet River,
Zand River, Johannesburg, Pretoria, Diamond Hill, Belfast, and Komati Poort.
M Captain Chandos-Pole-Gell served in the South African campaign, taking part in the operations in the Trans-
vaal (June and July to October 1900), and in Cape Colony in 1900, being present at the actions at Belmont, Enslin,
Modder River, Magersfontein, Belfast, and Komati Poort.
37 Lieut. Grant served in the South African war in 1899-1900 with the Kimberley Relief Force, and was present in the
engagement at Belmont — wounded.
39 Lieut. Leather-Culley served in the South African campaign, taking part in the actions at Belmont, Enslin,
and Modder River.
40 Lieut. Banbury served in the South African compaign, taking part in the operations in Cape Colony in 1900.
41 Lieut. Christie-Miller and Second Lieut. Whitbread served in the South African campaign, taking part in the
operations in the Transvaal (November 1900), and in Cape Colony in 1900.
4- Captain Grindel served in the Egyptian war of 1882. and was preseut in the engagement atTel-el-Mahuta and
at the battle of Tel-el-Kebir (iledal with Clasp, and Khedive's Star). Served in the South African campaign, taking
part in the operations in tte Orange Free State (February to May 1900), the operations in the Transvaal (liny to
June 1900, July to October ixo, and November 1900), and in Cape Colony in 1900, being preseut at the actions of
Belmort, Enslin, Modder River, Magersfontein, Poplar Grove, Driefontein, Vet Kiver, Zand River, Johannesburg,
Pretoria, Diamond Hill, Belfast and Komati Poort (mentioned in despatches).
*i Surgeon Lf. Colonel Masrili served in the Nile Expedition in 18S4-3 with the Guards Camel Regiment, and was
present at the action at Abu Klea— severely wounded (mentioned in despatches. Medal with two Clasps, and
Khedive's Star). Both he and Surgeon Major Crooke-Lawless served also in the South African campaign, ta'ung
Dart in the operations in the Orange Free State (February to May 1900', the Transvaal (May to June 1900, July
to October 1900, and November 1900), and Cape Colony in 1900, being present at the actions of Belmont, Enslin,
Modder River, Magersfontein, Poplar Grove, Driefontein, Vet River, Zand River, Johannesburg, Pretoria,
Diamoid Hill, Belfast, and Komati Pooit (both mentioned in despatches).
4J Sir Walter Barttelot served in the South African war in 1900-02. Joined the Dorset Regiment in Natal, Jan.
1900, and was present at the actions at Vaal Krantz, Hussar Hill, Monte Christo, Colenso, and Pieter's Hill ; the
advance on the Biggarsberg ; the actions at Botha's Pass and Alleman's Nek. From July to Dec. 1900 as Aide de Camp
±0 General Officer Commanding 10th Brigade ; from 1st Jan. to 15th May 1901 as Staff Officer to 3rd Corps of Mounted
Infantry. Took part in various engagements in Orange River Colony and the Transvaal. In May ;ooi joined the
Coldstream Guards at Naauwpoort, Cape Colony, and served with them till the end of the war, including a month's
trek with Colonel Crabbe's Column.
