DescriptionBetween two fires' by E. Eschini. This cartoon shows an army captain sitting at a desk shouting orders while a dismayed private is blown over the wall towards the captain by a nearby explosion. The caption reads: 'BETWEEN TWO FIRES. CAPTAIN HOTSPUR: "ORDERLY, ORDERLY!" / ORDERLY: "COMING, SIR."' Here the stereotypical hot-tempered army captain is satirised, the caption 'Between two fires' implying that the captain's rage is as fearful to the lower ranks as an exploding shell.
