The trade of Dumbarton is much decayed for want of a
bridge at the Ford of Leven, which would help the cattle
trade much and be useful to the forces in time of war. A
voluntary contribution is to be taken up. Notice to be
given in all churches. William M<=farland of Drumfad and
James Smallet of Pillenflett to be collectors.

of Bear proportionally to the Prices of the Drink.

Arms 232 Conjunctly nies ignorance.
When a weigh of barley (15 stones trois weight) is at
7 merks, of rough bear at 6 merks, ale and beer shall be
14d a pint. If barley is 8 merks at 16d pint, 9 merks at
IM. pint, 10 merks at 2s. pint, 11 merks at 2s. 2d. pint, 12
merks at 2s. 4d. pint, 13 merks at 2s. Qd. pint. Commis¬
sioners of excise to enforce this and meet on first Tuesday of
October. The conveners are named, who are to report
twice a year on the diligence of the commissioners. Magis¬
trates to have weights in readiness for the weighs on pain
of 1,000 merks fine. These to be printed and published.

Any of the rebels at Bothwell-Bridge (not being heretors,
ministers, or ringleaders) who appears to take the bond
before 1 March next will be pardoned. Does not apply to
those already taken prisoners, nor to any taken prisoner six
weeks after intimation in their shire. This is the last diet
allowed. These to be proclaimed and printed. Follows
the names of those appointed to take bond from the rebels in
the respective shires following.

Conspirators against the King and Government.

Recites murder of Archbishop Sharp and rebellion of
1079, pardon and proclamation Whitehall, 29 June 1679,
No. 2467, q.v., allowing house conventicles. A new plot
has been formed. Treasonable pamphlets, entitled Naphtali,
Jus Populi, The Apologetick Narrative, &c., have been circu¬
lated. Proof of this conspiracy is in the papers found on
Mr. Donald Cargil on 3 June last; in the treasonable Declara¬
tion of Sanquhair of 22 June last; in the treasonable bond
found in the papers of Richard Cameron, killed at Airds-
Moss, signed by Thomas Dowglas, . . . Cameron, John
Vallence, Daniel Macmitchel, Thomas Campbel, John
Moodie, Patrick Gamle, James Stewart, and others; in the
excommunication of the Duke of York and others by Cargil
in a field conventicle at Torwood in Stirling in October;
and by the free confession of James Skeen, Archibald
Stewart in Borrowstowness, and John Potter, late servant
to Lord Cardross, who met at Edinburgh 11 November inst.
These conspirators are declared rebels and traitors. All are
to be seized with their associates, especially those named
here or in proclamation 30 June 1680, No. 2488, q.v.
Pardon if the accused are hurt or slain in resisting. 5,000
merks reward for Donald Cargil, 3,000 for Thomas Dowglas,
1,000 merks each for the others. These to be printed and
published.

Certain disorderly boys, students in the University of
Edinburgh and apprentices of the city, formed themselves
into parties with cognizances, and threatened to burn the
Provost's house of Priestfield. Although the Privy Council
took steps to guard the peace the house was burnt down.
2,000 merks reward and indemnity to the first informer,
who will be taken into special protection.

Seditious persons have instigated the students of Edin¬
burgh to riot when they were called in question, on 25 Dec,
they assembled with the apprentices, wearing a blue ribbon,
and threatening the Provost to burn his house of Priestfield,
which was done a few days after by throwing in fire-balls,
&c. All students are to leave Edinburgh and fifteen miles
around within twenty-four hours, and not to return without
leave from the Privy Council. This to be published.
