ECT. IV.J HYMNS,
borrow is ev’ry day renew’d
' lit ray tumultuous breast.
Incensed heav’n, with awful dread,
‘ Consumes my feeble pow’rs :
Where shall I hide this guilty head
While Sinai’s thunder roars ?
From a corrupted stock I came,
Whose treason taints the blood,
Thro’ ev’ry vein diffuses still.
And draws the heart from God.
t Where shall I go to find relief ?
Whose aid shall I implore
To calm the tempest of my grief,
1 And solid peace restore ?
. Which way so e’er I turn mine eyes,
I seek and ask in vain ;
No pow’r on earth can grant release.
Or mitigate my pain.
? Creatures may pity one distrest.
But ’tis beyond their art
To give a troubled conscience rest,
, Or cure a broken heart.
| ’Tis Jesus, God’s beloved Son,
Who knows the pains I feel:
’Tis Jesus, and ’tis he alone.
My wounded soul can heal.

1 Remembering departed Joys, and longing for their
Return. Gen. v. 24.
L /"■) FOR a closer walk with God,
A calm and heav’nly frame ;
A light to shine upon the road
That leads me to the Lamb !
